Hi Mags!! Thanks for the compliments! I've been doing fall cleaning and moving things around but I've bought so much new stuff from the co-ops that I'm running out of room again. Guess I'm gonna have to share some of my bulbs with my mom and my daughter cuz I sure don't have room for all of them! Is it cold in Deer yet? We need some cold weather for the leaves to turn before they just fall off. It's funny here that way. We can be in the 90s one week and 40s in the next. I know that Arkansas has some beautiful foliage in the fall. Do you have all of your vegetables put up for the year?
The 'Poop Scoopin Boogie'
Yep, the garden veggies are kapuut ... and very few flowers remain anywhere. My mums are beginning to show a wee bit. Dummy here, finally opted to give 'em a fertilizin' a few weeks ago .. (thanks to DG!) .. and bless pat! ... they're lookin' better than they had during the last 3 or 4 years!! (duh, me!) .. I'm a lernin' tho' .. hee hee
Had somewhat of a 'cold' front for several days just a while back .. But now, a wee bit of humidity and warmer temps have snuck back in. It was really nice sleeping with our bedroom sliding door and windows open, for a week or so! Just somewhat surprised that we've not heard the coyotes yet, tho' .. Normally, they yip at least a couple of times each night.
We have very wee fall color, but purtee sure it's premature 'drying' out of the root systems .. more associated to the lengthy severe dry periods we'd had for a long spell. Normally, our Dogwood and Redbud leaves lend somewhat of a color display .. but the Dogwoods have just went kerplunk .. strait to dead leaves! The Redbuds are trying to green back up .. hee The hickories have long been turning .. but again, due more to the dry spell. Some older Maples out in the direct sun all day, have begun to color also. Here in our holler, they're a bit more protected .. with the more mature Maples only beginning to splash a few leaves wtih a bit of yellow, orange and red.
With the ample rains we'd had recently - we're in hopes, that the trees will have benefited from the much needed moisture .. and 're-coop' in time, to put on their best fall dress !!! Some, are indeed, making a bit of a comeback ... and are just beginning to put on some color ..
I am ready for our 'fall' temps to come and stay ... and even more ready for our snows!
However, as far as being properly and amply 'prepared': nope .. we're not! We've yet to down a few trees, and cut, split, and stack .. our firewood for the season. That's probably what we'll be spending the next few days doin' too !! hee hee
No doubt your family members will be most pleased with you opting (having .. ha!) to share some of your plant goodies with them! .. hee
Ahh enuff of my jabberin'!! .. hee hee .. Take care and I'm still keepin' {tabs} on that 'lung-freeing' endeavor of yours too !! You've jes gotta be soooo very proud of yourself !!!
I see that all of you folks way up north and 'northER' (hee) .. are getting purtee cold and a bunch of snow to boot!! Ahh, yall pass the message on to Ol Man Winter .. to jes c'mon down. Magpye's a waitin' . . .
* And all of you .. please continue to post any and all of your 'natchurl' fertilizer gettin', haulin', benefitin' and experiencin' tales!

Yes, I am somewhat proud of myself. Its been 10 days now. Will be glad when I stop thinking about it, though. Well, it's time to turn in. Talk to ya'll tomorrow!

Nothin' beats MONKEY MUFFINS!!
OK, baghpypr... what's Monkey Muffins?
Hello bagpypr !!
.. And a 'hearty' welcome to DG ! ! ! !
I've jes returned from a fast lil gallavantin' trip between southern La, central Texas .. and then clean out to Grants, New Mexico .. so, please try to forgive me for failing to acknowledge you in some sorta way .. before now. Seems to be takin' me a bit to fetch my get up & go, and get 'er agoin' again !! ... Reckon, it's 'lane lag', I guess!! .. lol ..
I jes suppose .. that monkey dung should very well be referred to, as 'muffins, 'ey ?!? It sorta 'goes' together, don't it ! .. hee .. Welllll, why not .. cow poop, is cow 'patties' - so monkeys should have their very own 'exotic' natural fertilizer 'designs' also! .. hee hee ..
This'd also mean .. that you either live mitey close to a zoo .. or, have a few of them thar vermin as pets, right ? Ya jes gotta get fill us in about this here new form of 'poop scoopin' soon, if ya will ... I'd sure nuff like to hear about it! ..
Also .. I'm most curious about your DG user name. Is that short for 'bag piper' -?- If so, do you indeed 'play' them -?-

Yep, I've been reminiscing a bit again ...
Making a point to start my new year off, with revisiting & re-playing some mitey fine 'giggler' provisioning from all of you guys!! .. lol ..
BUT .. still would like to hear the definitive meaning of 'monkey muffins', that bagpypr hasn't yet provided. Where's that scamp anyway?!?
Uh-oh . . . Now, that jes can't be!! It appears that we may have lost him/her at some point during the year ...
Weezins, did s/he not board the bus either -?-

Thanks for resurrecting this old thread. I just skimmed through it and found myself wondering how Susan's tulips turned out.
Haven't a clue about bagpypr or the monkey muffins. I suppose they could have been banana muffins, but your definition is more likely considering the subject of this thread! Wouldn't you think monkey poo wouldn't be a recommended for gardening. Human waste is discouraged due to possible transmission of disease... how about monkey muffins?
I would emagine the human to human disease transmission would be a factor, however, the Chinese have used "Night soil" for something like 40 centuries. Monkeys are primarily fruit eaters I believe, but I still wouldn't be comfortable taking a chance with using their manure on anything I was going to eat. I'll stay with the manure of animals who eat grass, it just seems a lot safer to me. My cats use my vegie garden for a toilet occasionally and I don't like that but there isn't much I can do about it except when I see them do it I dig out that soil and dispose of it where it is not near a plant I'm trying to grow.
MaryE, What a huge disappointment :( out of 500, about 2 bloomed!! Can you believe that! I honestly in my heart believe that it was the small size of the bulbs and not anything I did. I haven't left negative feedback yet since I am a relatively new gardener, but I'm pretty sure it was the small bulb size and I will not order from Parks again. It doesn't matter that they would refund the amount of money I spent. How much is a new gardeners hopefull expectation and disappointment worth when all I got was the green foilage? If it says anything, I have not planted bulbs this fall, but I have my nose glued to all the new catalogs that are coming in and I want to be great at growing from seed, which is waht I am going to focus on this season.
Here are two photo albums of my garden give them a minute to load:

Spring bulbs are always a crap shoot around here, so I buy the inexpensive packages so I'm not too bummed out if they don't winter over. Costco or Sam's Club usually has big boxes of them for about $15, and they are nice big bulbs. You can get other packages at discount stores, and most of those let you see the bulbs you are getting.
I just got a Sams card, but have had a Costco and I LOVE everything they have to offer in regards to plants. They get it in and it goes FAST around here.. It is all quality and at great prices. At least now I'll have two place to go see! :)
Susan
Sad that you put in so much effort and only got a couple of blooms. I hope this year's garden turns out better.
MAGPYE,
Please 'scuse me for not only being a yankee, but a Boston born and city bred one who's a tad dumb about some things...Is the "poop" you're referring to in that huge truck you drove home manure?
If it is, that sure is a "load of crap" you were hauling! :-)
My husband is a certified master gardener and he tells me that sometimes there's just no substitute for the "real thing." So of course, because the poor lovesick fool listens to me, he only buys sterilized, odorless manure and, according to my request, doesn't tell me about it when he does...he gets rid of the empty bags pretty quickly too!
"Princess" Lila P.S. I don't mind cleaning up after dog poop calamities or small children...it's just stranger beast poop that throws me!
.. LOL .. Lila !!
Ha!! .. And, I've been most tempted to pawn it off on some 'ticular folk too!! .. (hee) ..
Naw, serious now .. to answer your question; Id' venture to say .. that it's a thorough 'blend' of various cattle, horse, goat, sheep, & bovine 'prime' .. mixed with a bit of saw dust .. and most, is well-composted .. from the stock yards !! .. (always inquire about the 'old' stuffs!) .. This, is not a time to desire the 'freshest' of product-shuns!!
However .. I must state, that your vivid description sums it up .. far far better!! .. LoL ..
Stranger still, tho' is .. in days long gone by .. it was no problem for my being privvy to witnessing nor cleaning up after the many ills & accidents of 'moma & grandmaw-hoodum' .. from babies, kids, sick family, pets, etc. - from either 'poles'. But, in days of late .. the mere hearing of a 'gagging' .. will 'do me in', in no time! Critter stuffs don't come near to bringing about as bothersome an involuntary reflex ...
okay .. that did it!! .. Uuuugh .. I'll be back later! ..
((hugg.......
- Magpye
Oh, them wunnerful 'layg-pullin' hubbies !! ..
.. Such antics'd sure make me a knarley bit suspicious of 'im, tho' ..
( .. Jes luvinly teasin' the both of you guys! .. )
Yep, I've taken a 'read' of a few of his threads & posts. I just wish I could retain everything I've read from days and/or weeks ago! I need a computer that I can hang around my neck - like my digicam !! .. ha!
- Magpye
browhann, if you are only put off by unfamiliar poop, why not let your hubby buy a cow so you will be more familiar with the source! (It would no longer be 'stranger beast poop.) There are additional benefits, since your grazing bovine buddy could replace that old lawn mower, and by attaching a wheelbarrow to the south end of Elsie, you could collect fertilizer all day without a shovel. What a nice surprise for hubby and his garden endeavors!
Weezingreens, you're a hoot! Such a smile you gave me!
now just one question: what if elsie's south end is facing north? would that then make it her north end? or is the former city street kid in me showing?
Lila P.S. I LOVE your picture! A perfect blend of delight and humor! thank you!
I guess that would be cow south, not compass south.
