Private messaging...

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I have the old mail but where has the read e-mail gone?

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Dave,

That's awesome! Just what I wanted. I can keep up with some of the "old" things (and people) I was checking on.

Perfect!

Still not clear to me how to delete obsolete 'Private e-mail' threads before the list is a mile long.
Did I miss something?

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Don't think you can delete, and can't seem to organize them into folders. I'd be happy if I could forward them to my regular inbox, where I could organize?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

My old emails, going back to 2001 are just taking up space. Is there a way to delete them?

Northern, IN

Terre_ Can you use copy and paste?

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Any way to make the new email system sortable by Sender, Recipient or Date? That would be a bonus I believe once we start having lots to go through. Or maybe even a search tool box like for the forums but it searches our private email only?

Plain City, OH(Zone 5b)

This is such a neat feature. Oh, butr whoa is me, whatebver am I gfoing to do with out a speel chacker??????? Oh wonder of wonders, is it possible to build one in to a tool bar somewhere? Of course, you realize that the more you do, the more we will ask for! Thanks a bunch.

I like this feature. Question -- Would it be possible for us to have a way to send a PM to a member from our own member page by filling in the memberID of the recipient (if known)? Some are not comfortable with quick ways of navigating the site to get to a member's ID in order to send a PM, so that might help.

gardenwife: your feature has been implemented. You'll find it at your member page email control panel.

dave

Ulrich,

Just as you can't delete threads, you also cannot delete emails to members. Remember that the email is like a wormhole: it's attached to two parties and if you deleted a email you sent to someone, you would be deleting something that belongs to them.

dave

The system is now sortable by clicking on the header. Click once to sort ascending, click again to sort descending.

Dave,

I am getting used to this and it's working fine in all instances. What I miss is the ability to email folks who might not be on DG due to a variety of personal circumstances, but would appreciate a personal note of encouragement. As you know, I freqent the Prayer Request forum. Recently, a fellow has gone through some very traumatic things and is in the process of working them out. He hasn't been on DG for days (that I can see), but he might email me since we have communicated this way before. I have been praying for him and his situation daily and just want to know how he's doing. I didn't keep his email address in a file on my PC as I didn't know this function was going to go away on DG. I would just like to be able to check on him and make sure he's ok.

The same holds true for some of our members who aren't in good health. Family members might not know to post something on DG, but might respond to a personal email (checking to see how they are).

Do you have any suggestions for this kind of situation? It doesn't come up daily or even weekly, but it is something I have done a number of times in the past.

This morning I created an email notification system. If your recipient doesn't read their mail for 2 days, the system will email them (only one time) and tell them that there is email for them, and it'll give them a link to read the mail.

It only mails it once, at least 48 hours after it was sent.

dave

Carla,

I'm not sure how we can work what you're asking for. What we're trying to move to here is a system where people can feel 100% comfortable that nobody will ever contact them directly in their inbox (only admins).

I'm hoping that the new email alert notifications I put in just now will help solve this. If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them!

This is very kewl. I just received my first e-mail notify that I have a PM. Very technomological. :-D

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Dave,

I think the email notification system will be a great help. You're a blessing, Dave. Thanks for helping with this and understanding what I'm trying to accomplish.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks Dave, you certainly answer fast considering how many requests there are.

Dave;
What I want to know is if you have gotten much sleep lately?

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

dwdruley...I was wondering the same thing! :-)

Thanks Dave...the system is working beautifully for me.

~julie~

dwdruley, I sleep about 7 hours each night. I probably actually go to sleep around 11pm and awaken at 5:45am. I'm in my office from the time I wake until 5pm, probably spending a total of 2 hours away from my desk throughout the day.

dave

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave...has anyone ever told you that you WORK too much? :-)

~julie~

This is what you have to do when you must support your family with your own business. Every business owner I know puts in at least 10 hours a day, and really, my schedule is quite lenient compared with most other entrepreneurs!

No kidding - Russ has been getting up between 3 and 4 O'Clock in the morning for two weeks now, starting work, not finishing until nearly 7 to finish up a project before we leave on Thursday. (he hasn't been the easiest person to live with, either, lol)

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

You sure have to be disciplined.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

He and I both, lol!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Thanks, Dave. I've been too busy buttoning up my gardens for winter to truly check this out, but I think it is going to save me lots of time in the long run when I'm keeping track of seed trades.

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

So where did they go now? Yesterday I had 2 full pages of "active member emails" Today I have only old, up through sept 2, and Sept 20 and 21. I am trying to work out details on a coop, and now have lost all the info as to what people wanted substituted???

Terre_, remember that you have old emails and new emails. Make sure to check them both.

dave

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

I have.

Old emails show up to Sept 2.

New emails start at Sept 20. Yesterday there was page 1 and 2. Where did page 2 go?

Terre_, the only explanation is that you didn't send any mail through DG since September 2nd!

dave

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Dave - appreciate it.

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Dave,
I just told you. I had two pages of DG email yesterday and only one today! I sent dozens of emails out to people because of the coop. They replied over the weekend with info on what they wanted for substitutions and now they are not there. Where did they go??? I don't even know what people wanted for subs now!

Terre

Terre,

Thanks. Look again now and let me know if they are there.

dave

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Thank you. They are back.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Dave - when I got home from work today there was an email in my Inbox telling me that a private email had been sent to me from ldieffen and gave the link to it. When I clicked on it, it was a message from Sun. 9/19 that I responded to within a 1/2 hr of her posting her private msg. Not a problem for me, just thought you might need to look at the code on the "reminder" emails.

Here's the link to the message in question in case it helps.

I had that this morning as well. Thought maybe he was just giving us an example of what it was going to do.

Like I could stay away from DG for 48 hours. Not!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Terre_ I'm with you! 48 hours would mean that I was in the hospital or DEAD! :-D
~julie~

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Or like our friends down south, without power.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

You had to say THAT didn't you? :-D Yes...If Wisconsin gets a Hurricane (read that as an ICE storm) I just might not make it on for 48 hours. ;-)
