Upcoming Garden Tour in Humboldt, CA

Garberville, CA(Zone 9a)

I was in a long-sleeved (it was supposed to rain!) burgundy sweater and blue levis, with glasses. Toni was in a sleeveless white shirt and cropped pants.

I'm sorry I missed talking to you. Maybe next time!

Lori

ps... the rest of the pictures will follow as soon as Toni burns them to a disk, and gives them to me!

The above two pictures of the fountain and ant were from the Daneri garden in Fortuna. One of my favorite gardens, with the Pace garden.

It turned out my friend went to highschool with Pat Stone, who had a tiny backyard garden. It was very cute, with lots of "country" accents, very cute birdcages, and a fountain I plan on copying, as soon as I can get all the parts!!! I did get a picture, so I'll post it soon.

Well.... sorry we missed meeting each other , Zany. I did notice you & your hat. I did have a name tag on whist you were sitting across from me that said DGer. As I asked so many people if they were Dick or Lori, that I too finally gave up. I did meet Lori @ the Loleta Cheese factory @ had entended to go to the restraunt @1, but we had not seen any of the gardens in Fortuna.
My hubby , who usually doesn't go with me to these things, thought we ought to see the rest of the gardens, since that is what we came for. (Gee, I hate it when he's right!) I did meet up with Dick & his crew, so glad I did. (that's gray, Dick, or maybe gray-blue) I was looking for "BLUE" like royal or tourquoise., but it WAS the only Hummer I saw on the tour!!! We had a heck of a time finding several places & were flustrated right off the bat. We headed straight for the Cheese factory cause we figured that would be easiest to find.
We missed 3 gardens. The ones we did see were great!
Next time we attempt meetings of any kind we should wear something like a red ribbon around out wrist, or name tags. Also swapping cell phone #s would probably have helped too. Glad I did get to see everyone even if I didn't know it was you Zany!

BJ,I should have worn my glasses so I could have read your name tag! One of the highlights of the tour was when a little girl introduced herself to your puppy. Sitting there I wanted so much to snap a picture of her when she and the pup reached out their little faces to kiss. Her little lips puckered and the pups pink tounge reaching out for her. It was sheer innocence! But since I didn't know you or the girl I was afraid it would have offended someone to snap it without asking and it happened too fast to stop and ask.

It was nice to almost meet you.

Wow! Very nice pictures. I took a bunch of them, but haven't had the chance to edit them all yet. I've finished about half of them, but I will try to post the ones I've finished tonight, over in the "Photos" forum.

I loved that Dahlia garden. I got some great close-ups of a couple of them. We spent some time talking to the owner of the garden. He was very nice, and was *thrilled* to be able to brag about his tomatos that did so well this year, and his fuscia bushes, and.... :) We almost didn't escape that one!

Lori

did you get a good pict of the fried egg plants ???

So that is what "Fried Egg" plants/flowers look like. I got some seeds from my Mom last year but never managed to get any planted.
I can't believe that I took my camera & didn't take one shot all day of the Garden Tour. I did have my hands full with Lilly (the pup). I regret not taking pictures of that cute postage stamp yard in Fortuna, the one with all of the yard junk & that cute dish pan fountian. I love creative yard junk, That yard was very cute.
Those dahalias were awesome, & those Begonias WOW! There were some pretty incrediable yards. I'm gald we went.
Dick, stop by sometime on your way by.

BJ,

I got some cute pictures of the tiny yard in Fortuna, and posted them along with the rest on the Photos forum. Very cute fountain. I want to try that one day.

Dick,

I didn't get a picture of the fried egg flowers. Crazy looking things, though. What garden was that at?

As for the garden tour, I had a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing it again next year... I'd also like to try the one they have in Mendocino as well. Last year they had the Mendo tour on Saturday, and the Humboldt tour on Sunday. My Mother went with a friend and had a ball! And she doesn't even garden!!!

Lori posted a lot of nice picts in the photo forum BJ
i just heard the garden tour next year is scheduled for the last weekend of June
i guess they are trying to get more goodies in bloom :-) like Rhodies
the fried egg plants where at the little Goleta garden next to the house & the
big garden in Cuten with all the different trees, had a corvette in the garage
BTW: :-) we won one of the raffles - one night stay with dinner for 2 at the
Romantic Historic Benbow Inn, Garberville, Ca :-)
i was told you can't grow the fried egg plant from seeds only root division
but there is a Poached Egg Plant you can grow from seed = much smaller flower

Hi everyone,
Yes this is Strever's baby sister, I finally did sign up. The fried egg plant was at two different gardens. The one Richard took the picture of was the garden in Lolita, but in the side by side gardens in Fortuna there was a very large patch that was really growing wild. I am going to try and find some and attempt to grow it here (9a)

Hi, Strever's Baby Sister!!! Welcome!

Red Bluff, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks,
So far all I have done is cruise through the forums and read what all of you have been doing ! I guess I better get this logged on at home so I can really see what is going on at night. I have an obession with acorns, and have so many that I really need to find something new to do with them. I already decorate the whole xmas tree with real and man made acorns and oak leafs so my collection is going to have to have help.

I am really understanding now just why Richard loves this site !

you are a bunch of warm hearted souls

Welcome aboard! Now there is another member I can put a face and a name together with. I am glad I had the opportunity to meet you at the garden tour. And she is a brave soul too. Even my purple heat with red flowers didn't scare her away!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

hey Michelle you missed a really good tour
you should see some of the picts Lori posted in the photo forum
i see some nice picts coming from you & your new camera
so you must have gotten all the bugs out of yours
Zany

Wow! Congrats, Dick! The Benbow is about 5 minutes from me, and it is a beautiful place. Filled with all sorts of antiques, and it has very nice little garden areas. They're prettier in the spring and summer, but the foliage of the trees and shrubs are nice this time of year.

If you come down before the end of October, and you're not here on a Sunday or Monday night, you should have dinner at the 707 restaraunt in Garberville. They're just about to change owners, but they're open til then, and the food is WONDERFUL.

BTW, welcome to Strevor's little sister! This is a fun place, full of all sorts of information, and very smart people to answer just about any question under the sun.

I saw those photos! Very pretty- almost felt like I had been there. My camera and I have a developing relationship to say the least.

Love your heart that you call him Richard!! hehe

Red Bluff, CA(Zone 9a)

After knowing him for 57 years it is hard to conform to what others call him.=)

Has anyone found the fried egg plant, in seed or plant ?

Sandi

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

So Richard...this is what you have been up to since I last saw you in Sept. lol

When are you moving to your new home up north? Have you started to sell your house down here yet? Where are you right now? I want to give you those Brug seeds to grow out and see how they look.

Hi there Sandi and welcome to our home away from home. I was lucky to meet Dick, his wife and one of his sons in Sept. Wish he wasn't moving now that I have met him.

Hope your doing well. Send me an email, K?

Donna

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

I saw the egg-plants at Lompoc last week! Let me know how the sees go- a "must" for a daisy garden!!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Michelle
were they fried or poached egg-plants? in/at Lompoc for sell ?
were they the same as the ones in the pict above ?
& yes they are most definitely a daisey garden item :-)
lots a questions eh ? :-)

Dick

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

They were poached and they weren't for sale :( and were at the La Purisma Mission garden.

Those are easy questions to answer!!!! lol
