Secret cactus and succulent Trade
Please explain. Are we talking outside cactus as I notice some of you are from the dryer western states, or cactus that is raised in the house. All I have is Christmas cactus that I have as house plants.
Thanks, Maxine
Maxine,
Please don't stress about this. It's suppose to be fun. Inside cactus or succulents are fine. If all you have are Christmas cactus then so be it. As I made note above that the postage should not excede $8.00. That gives you some idea of how much that will be sent to you and how much you can send to someone else. Now, I'm speaking Priority mail as surface mail would put too much stress on the plants. I believe the smaller boxes that are 2x 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 usually go at $3.85 the next size of which I don't have the dementions handy runs right around
$7.85. That gives the plants lots of room and you are able to pack them better.
But, you do what you think you can do and if there is any problems let me know and we will cover it. The main thing is to just have fun!!!!! Okay???

OK! Sorry to be a pain where you sit, but like to get my facts straight before sending plant or plants.
Sometimes people can get very irate at a misunderstanding.
Maxine
Not at all, Maxine. The only dumb question is the one not asked, at least that is what I was always tought. Feel free to ask away. Hope this is a good learning experience as well as a fun adventure.LOL
Thanks,
Jan
Maxine I for one would love Christmas cactus! So don't worry about it! Secret trades are always a gamble - That's what makes it fun!
Sounds like fun!
I'd like to be in, too....and hate to be 'finicky' but I don't desire any cacti...just succulents. I may have a few cacti to trade, though.
I haven't really traded, here, but could give some trade references from another forum, if anyone needs them...since I'm an 'old but new' subscriber!
Count me in on this one too - haven't done any trading for awhile. I love the hardy sedums/etc. Not much on prickly cactus tho.
Always interested in small succulents - we have a little table in the Narthex at our church where I keep a tray of small plants for visitors to take.

I believe you would be better off limiting the postage to $3.85, which is the one pound price for priority mail to ANYWHERE in U.S. If a package is one ounce over 1 pound then the cost is based on zip code, so that if someone in FL draws a name of someone is OR the cost to mail that package is a lot more than it would be to say SC. You can get a lot of starts in a $3.85 one pound package. Harold
Nan and Azalea you are in please email me with your address along with your DG name and put Secret trade in subject mater so I don't delete thinking it's spam. Then I will put you on the list. TKS
HaroldS- The only reason I put a max limit of $8.00 is because some of the cactus plants are larger which will take a larger box. Those can run more depending on weight. Now if you are sending alot of little succulents or cactus then the smaller boxes work great. I just don't want anyone having to spend too much for this trade.
Is this trade still open?
If so, I'd love to join in
Thx,Carol
will email info

Good for you Dixie Chick, Glad to see ya join in. BTW, our shipment should be arriving tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
:^))))
Molly
Hi
I would love to join. I am sorry but what is the difference between succulents and cactus?
I would not want to send the wrong thing.
Thanks
Sandy
Sandy, take a look here for our definitions. http://davesgarden.com/terms/go/889.html
Thx Molly...Glad to be in this trade :-)
Happy to hear our new babys will arrive soon too...
I think I'm s'pose to say which type of plants I'd like more?
I'm more into the hardy sedum's & succlents than, the prickly & as my grandson calls'em Pokely plants..lol
But will give TLC to any and all plants....
Molly, Hows the heat down there? Got to 99 here and felt like 114 so they said ( I stayed in the house!) Thats just way to darn HOT!!!
Hugs Carol
I don't know how hot number wise it got today. I do know I painted 2 coats of concrete stain to the walk surfaces of the patio, pool and pergola areas for a customer today. I put on 9 gallons of stain. It was horribly hot. I got sunburn clean through my painters whites. I think my body ran out of salt. I need to get some peanuts into the van. (Then it rained hard just after I left the job. About 25% of the second coat washed away.) Send over some cheese for this Whine.
My wish list? I have 1 Christmas Cactus, and although I am collecting sedums and succulents, an unusual cactus would be very nice.
WOW!!!!!WOW!!!!WOW!!
I think without checking that the list is up to 15 not including me.
This is turning out great. I will update the list tomorrow as They say I've editted my quota for the day????
Keep em coming. the more the merrier.
Please be sure to put SECRET TRADE in subject matter when you email me with addresses, so You don't get deleted.
Jan
Jan, I've been trolling for traders. LOL
:^)))
Molly
Good Girl Molly! Your Hired. LOL. I think that this is going to be so much fun. There are newbies as well as oldies. hehehe
Not too old though! It will be so interesting to see what everyone gets. There are a few of us that went shopping at Squaw Mountain Growers including myself. I had to call 911 to have someone come rescue me from there. Can you just imagine what that place must be like? I would love to take a trip and see if I could get a private tour of his gardens. I know their not open to the public but it must be some huge greenhouses they have.
Jan, did I miss something? do you have Squaw Mountain Growers near you??? I went to a Cactus & Succulent grower here in Tucson today. Boy did I drool!!! So many plants. I needed a cactus for my patio and I also wanted to get some ides for this Plant Trading. Boy!!! could I have spent the bucks! So many plants I wanted to bring them all home with me. lol :) Mary
Tombstone LOL!!! its definitely God's providence that I live nowhere even close to Squaw Mountain because I would be out on the streets, eating out of trash cans, but man would I have some awesome plants in my cardboard box house. 911 would just give me up for dead.
Whoever gets me please send stuff that can take HUMIDITY! I just lost most of a boxful of succulents from Molly to the continuous rain over the last month. Is it only a month? - more like two!
No Binky, I was on their website and I couldn't pull myself away. I had been on there an hour at least and if my DMIL hadn't came by I would've spent more then I did. Thank heavens for dear sweet favors, even if it was a bummer to sign off so quick. I didn't want her to see how much I was spending on plants. She is a sweetheart but likes to voice her opinion in areas that don't concern her so I just try to avoid upsetting her. Gotta love her though. Best darn MIL I ever had and I have had a few. But that's another story any we won't even go there. LOL
I can't wait. I love epiphylliums also known as orchid cactus.
Any color but white. That would be my first choice. I hope they are a succulent? I am not sure where they fit. Basically any thing in these 2 groups, succulents and cactus. My DH loves cactus. Any size and shape. emailing you me addy.
Hope I remembered to send you my address.
Also would like the orchid cactus or sedums.
Just not into the picky cactus. I still remember backing into my Mothers when a child.
Thanks, Maxine
Oh quit whining Maxine, would like most any thing I guess?
Yes, Maxine,
If you are on the list then I have your address. It's a Prerequisite before I put you on the list. And I have made note of your preferences.
Thanks
Jan
***WE NEED JUST 1 MORE***
Okay you guys we need at least ONE MORE to make this an even trade. Go out and round up at least one more member so that I don't have to do two. Oh well, if I do thats okay too.
I'm sure that I have enough for two trades. No problem.
Jan
I will draw names on Sunday night and email them to you on Monday. Plants should be sent out no later then the 23rd. That will give you plenty of time to accumulate your secrets partners preferences. If you are unable to get them sent by that date, Please let me know so that I can inform your secret partner that their plants are running a little late but be patient. Please, Please no later then the 26th. It's unfair to the recipient of your plants to have to wait too long.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will try to answer them the best I can.
Okay. Time is running out and we really need one more person. Anybody, Anybody? Step right up and sign in please.

Jan
I can't wait, I've never done this before, lol, are you guys shopping and trading, or using your own? or both, lol,
Yeah!!! Looks like I made it! Thanks Molly for the invite! Now for my preferences: Please no house plants I would like hardys: semps and sedums and or perennials. Dont get me wrong I love house plants I just dont love dragging them back and forth!LOL
Cathy
All of the above. Heheh.
I have quite a few but I may need more if I get two people that want cactus. I am a succulent type person and I don't do cactus but I will for someone else.
Lets have fun and be creative if posiable. If you don't know the name of the plant, no problem. We'll figure that out after the trade in the ID forum. This will be a learning experience too. Class is in session.

Sedums and semps for me - high humidity ones, please! Or Christmas cactus or whatever. Just no real cactus b/c of the rain. I am longing for a regular ole Ghost plant and some hens and chicks.
BTW as far as packing - MollyMc sent me some sedums packed in I think fine pine bark mulch and they shipped great. Wasn't that what you used Molly? Somebody else used itty bitty bathroom paper cups with paper towels over the top and that worked too.
I generally just wrap mine up in dry newspaper. I also recieve quite a few this way and they seem to do well. I really like the toilet and paper towel tubes idea!!! I will be using that one and I can say that I learned it here at Dave's. LOL Oh! my Goodness, this is already fun!!
Cathy
