Terry, your question about the watering trough having water in it 24/7 ? Is that not what they were built for?
My friend who has a huge metal one had to patch it after ten years of using it for her well storage/cistern But that's not bad.
But of course that's more of a pool than a fountain.
Thanks for the post to the fountains.
Somewhere there's a site for DYI hypertufa stuff.
Ideas for DIY fountains?
My babysitter used an old bathtub for her fountain. I don't have any pictures of it, but it looked neat. She used an old pump with handle to make the water "flow" it looked like someone was pumping out water for their saturday night bath. :-) I have no desire for a fountain, (or pond) but I do think they're gorgeous!!
Happenstance, I really like that Ballard Designs fountain - it's just about exactly what I'm looking for.
Delphiniumdiva, I think I need to visit your Sam's Club - ours didn't have anything similar this spring (I know I wasn't exactly LOOKING for one then, but I tend to mosey down the H&G aisle every time I go, and I'm thinking something like that would have accidentally slid off the shelf right into my cart, ya know???
But it did give me an idea...I think I'm going to hit a couple of the home decorating stores tomorrow (Hobby Lobby and maybe Linens 'n Things) and see if they've gone a similar resin fountain OR if I can find a pedestal that could be drilled for a spigot, then finished with a water-proof coating. (Now the wheels are REALLY turning, lolol!)
Terry you would die if you saw the fabulous fountain Sams was selling for around $100 this last spring! Wish I had a pic - It was about 4 feet wide and tall, with three decorative spigots falling into a rectangular basin across the bottom. Looked like an old piece of wall or something from ancient Rome. AND - THE KICKER - with LIGHTING! Already installed and ready to go, shining up onto to the back panel. I kick myself for not buying one. Could have resold it on Ebay for twice the price if nothing else!
Happenstance - I love the idea on that link about using the salt shaker for a spray head. The stores want $20 for a fountain attachment to do the same darn thing! Talk about creative! Incredibly cool!
I like the pedestals Happenstance showed. I could see the one with the wine bottles and trash can lid with the lid all painted up with something pretty. I also liked that 6" pvc pipe gazing ball pedestal.
LOVE the cars springs!! And the PVC too - I would never have thought of cutting chunks out of it like that. Going to try it - I was thinking I could actually plant things in the holes, like a strawberry jar. Spray paint it that coppery "hammered metal" finish maybe. A group of two or three....(wheels in head churning...)
Happenstance, you are going to make me go to HD and I HATE that! Temptations everywhere!
So where do I get car springs?
Living in New Orleans, the booze it up capital of the world, I have these horrible images popping into my head of pedestals made of beer cans...aargh! Stop it!
I'll trade car springs for ?????
With a mechanic for a hubby, this is not a problem! How many would you like?
Hmmm. giving me ideas. A crankshaft on end with plants growing up and around it?
DH will shoot me, but hey, I've looked at this stuff for almost 30 years, I'm just sprucing it up a bit, right? I deserve something for living with a packrat mechanic, don't I? Besides a car that always runs, that I take for granted.
