Cypress vine leaves.....

The bottom has a crossbar like the top of the pot where the plants are. As you go up every two feet is another crossbar. It has two 2 1/2in screws in every crossbar piece. When I put the cage down, it will be screwed in in 16 places with 2in washers with 2in screws drilled into them. It should hold. The base pot weighs 67.5 lbs so I think it will be stable.

I purchased Shirayuki mg seeds (white with variegated leaves) from Robin's Garden early in the Spring. Only 2 of the seeds germinated and I would like to find some more of them. She is no longer selling them, so I'm looking for another source. Does anyone know where I could purchase more of these seeds?

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

The cardinal leaf kinda of has that pot leaf look. I was expecting one or both, with the two names on the packet. Thanks Ms. Moonlighting !

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I really love seeing all the photos of MGs. Mine are so slow. The only ones blooming are on old seeds just called variegated. None of my Japanese seedlings have bloomed yet.

Monterey that chicken wire tower should be stunning filled with MG in bloom. Donna

Mesilla Park, NM

rutholive,
Don't feel bad, I am sitting here waiting also. The only ones blooming here are the ones that reseeded on the ground. Soon we can join in.. I am getting anxious too. If it wasn't for these photos that everyone is posting, I would be desperate..lol

Minnie,

That white one was in one of the co-ops but even tho it bloomed . . . I never got seed.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Sylvia, I am sure someone will have these later and can share with you....
:o) This is my beautiful Blue star, since the temps have been steadly in the ninties I have noticed my MG's have slowed there blooming and that my Milky Way original is gone and the new seeds that I allowed to drop are sprouting to take there plaace... :o)

What do white flies do to mgs?

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok,I have a mg problem. My "Henka Asagao" is climbing beautifully, healthy leaves, but the flower buds in each of the leaf axils are not developing, they are drying up successively from the bottom up. My other MGs (Hatsu Arashi,Mt. Fuji,Kyoko Pink)are doing great..already have had blooms. What could be the problem?

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

And WillowWasp_ I absolutely COVET your Izumi MG!!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh thank you sooo much. Here is another one just for you..
When I get seeds I will be sure and save you some.... Do you have any Morning Glories? Let us know what you are growing...
As for your question, I really don't know. I have a patch of Split personalitys thats doing the same thing. The others on the side of the house are blooming fine and setting some seeds. But the ones I planted by the wash house are just growing the vine and have had maybe 3 or 4 blooms. So I am trying some different things such as more potassium and the bloom booster fertilizer. Now it's just wait and see...

Great picture golgi!...I bought some of those pink Japanese MG from Kyoko too....

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

I call them "Kyoko Pink",Moonlighting.TwinLakes, they do have variegated foliage, and very odd shaped leaves on some of the vines. The picture looks pretty close, but mine has a definite lavender tone, Moonlighting, have you had blooms yet?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I couldn't get any more pics of the flowers. Right now the plants are really stingy giving blooms. I get maybe 1 per week on each plant, then if I don't get out first thing in the morning, I miss it. I made it out there this am tho, got a different one this time.

Just wanted to share
:^)

Molly they may be stingy but they will come around soon. I am so glad to see you post you beauties they are very pretty. Is that one out of the Sunsmile Mix or do you know?

Golgi, you have really got a nice selection of Morning Glories, I am anxiously awaiting any pictures you have of them.
Did I e-mail you about the Morning Glory Seed bank I am trying to get started? In case I didn't let me know and I will put you on my list if you are intrested.....

I just started some Pearly Gates, Red Picotee and more Tye Dye, I would like to use them in some crosses so I am hoping they will get going. I have new Milky Ways beginning to vine so I will use them to....
This one is fast becoming my favorite, this is Akatsuki Umi "Sea"......It is down the river bank so not easy to get pictures. This was taken late yesterday evening just about sun set sorry its a little dark. Hope you like it....I am really watching the seed pods on this one.... LOL

My MG's came from seed trades and round robins this past winter. Since I don't germinate seeds too well, I've resigned myself to sowing freely and keeping my fingers crossed. IF I forget what I sowed (if they actually grow up) I will try to refrain from going to the ID forum. LOL

This may come up twice don't know, my computer or something is acting strange this morning. I posted this once already and it didn't come up.....sooooo.....again...

This is a strange color for a Choclate Silk, this is about the 5th or 6th flower is has produced this color but couldn't get a picture of it cause it was way up in a tree. Anyway DH got a ladder and climbed up and took the picture for us this morning. What do yall think about this mutation? I really like it and will have to figure how to ID what seeds belong to it later when it ready.... LOL..maybe DH will get back on the ladder..

Sorry golgi - no bloom yet, I started some seeds later than the others, but I will have some soon hopefully....

Monterey - spider mites will damage them just like any other plant. I had a horrible time with them a few weeks ago on my plants and they did get on my "Yosooi" but after repeated spraying I have them under control.

MollyMc - Great picture!

Love that blue WW!!!!

Mesilla Park, NM

WW, those two are killing me, they are gorgeous, Akatsuki Umi "Sea" and No Beni... I hope you get lots of seeds of those.. (where do you live?) to make a night raid..

Moonlighting, what did you useto spray for spidermites? I have some on a brug and do not want it to spread onto the mgs. I did move it away from everything, but you never know.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks. I sprayed them !

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Alright, you gulf coast people, enough of your dinner plate size morning glories, you're making mine look anemic.Willowwasp,I would love to know more about the MG seed bank:e-mail me!Oh, how I would love a seed or two of your Akatsuki Umi.The Japanese have cultivated such stunning MGs and mine seem to be completely pest free. Not so with our "American" MG strains. I am battling with the evil gold bug(looks just like a Lady bug shape, but a liquid drop of gold) They will eat holes in the leaves and decimate a plant in about 15 minutes. No exaggeration.
Also, concerning the "no bloom" problem with my Henka asagao..could being too wet be the problem? This particular pot doesn't seem to drain well.
Gail

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Gourd - These pests started on my brugs also - then moved on to infest other plants. I used Diazinon Ultra (Ortho) in a hose end sprayer, zapped them a few times and it worked - all gone. You do what you have to do to take back control....

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Here is an attempted one handed measure I did a few weeks ago. The flower didn't want to cooperate but you get the idea...lol.

golgi - yes, the wet could be your problem....also count yourself lucky if yours remain pest free....lol.

Dee, this looks like MG City. Blue Dawn, because it is a perennial ,how does it seed? Is it better to take cuttings? Lost in Blue Dawn City.

Thumbnail by RichSwanner
Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Hummmm, look closely along the vine and see if you can spot where a flower was it should have a berry sorta looking thing there. If it does you have to leave it on until it turns brown. You can then pull the whole thing off and open it, it should have between 4-8 seeds in it....
I will try and get some photos of it that will show you what it should look like. See if these are good enough. It is raining so I took them under the umbrella....LOL :o)
Dee

Thumbnail by WillowWasp
Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Also I would try cuttings. I took this one about 2 weeks ago and so far so good. You have enough on that one to take a bunch of cuttings....LOL... :o)
Dee

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

The Blue dawn does not set seed, it is propagated by cuttings.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you everybody. Dee what is rain? I won't see any till October.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Well live and learn I didn't not know that about Blue Dawn, thank goodness for our experts....LOL....

Oh my goodness it is pouring here and will be off and on all summer. That is one of the blessings and curses of living on the coast. This is a tropical system that is moving through. Seems you either get to much or not enough it is never right....sounds like most things though...right... :o)
Dee

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

My Blue Dawn is blooming away, but the leaves look stippled and there are tiny green bugs on the underside of the leaves. Anyone know what they are?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Strange things are happening with my morning glories. They just refuse to grow taller than 2 in. What is going on? Also, 2 more bloomed today where the 1 with the purple flower bloomed before. They are pink with white spokes. I've never purchased any like that. Guess somewhere along the line someone sent me the wrong seeds. The flowers are not very big either. All the morning glories that I've grown in the past were at least 8 to 10 ft. within just a few weeks of sowing the seeds. All these seeds were sowed in April.

Also, the 2 Shirayuki vines (or should I say inchlings) are no longer variegated. How can that be?

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Monterey - your MG is beautiful!

Grannie - are those "green bugs" aphids? I have noticed that most of my Jap MG's started off very slow (stayed a few inches forever) then a growth spurt occured and they took off, some also lost variegation but picked it back up when they started growing. I am guessing your "pink with white spokes" could be Mt. Fuji? Hard to say without a picture. BTW - If you happen to get some seeds from your Shirayuki I would love to have some.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Do aphids fly? I guess I need to spray them, because the foliage up close looks rather sick.

Thanks for the info on their growth, because I was really getting frustrated. Mt. Fuji is what they look like. Evidentally someone sent me the wrong seeds. They are pretty though.

If I get enough seeds from Shirayuki, I'll be more than happy to share. I was hoping to find some more to buy, because only 2 of my seeds germinated. I haven't been able to find them again though.
