Need suggestions for a curbside area

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

The area between the sidewalk and street looks even worse than the rest of the yard. I would like to make this a "no-maintenence" area and have been trying to think of something to plant here that is very low-growing and something that will not be always trying to creep across the sidewalk.

This area is under an ugly old pine tree which drops its cones all over the place. One day (dream), I'd like to have the pine removed and replaced with a crepe myrtle.

Anyway, do you have any ideas for something suitable for this area (besides concrete) that would look neat and attractive? :D

Thanks!

Jean

Has anyone tried Corsican mint as a groundcover?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Maybe Lantana? Not sure if youre wanting shrubs or plants? a vine to go up the tree?

I was thinking of a short groundcover. Something that won't go romping over to visit the neighbors :D

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Cerastostigma plumbaginoides aka leadwort makes a wonderful ground cover and as it's a root spreader the paved areas will keep it from jumping to the neighbors. it provides a thick green low plant which then flowers with blue/purpleish flowers and in the fall turns a luscisous reddish bronze. It fills in quite rapidly.

Great ideas! Thank you!

Blooms, nice suggestions! A groundcover that flowers -- nice. Thank you both.

I really like the leadwort, may try that. I would also suggest looking at ajuga, spreads nicely and is putting up low stalks with deep purple flowers now (in WI) I have the burgunday glow, so have the deep red color now.
