What Is Your Favorite Quote?

Here is a quote I know some of us might remember, maybe not.
but I like it.

Eddie Cantor said, "You are only here for such a short visit. Don't forget to smell the flowers." I often wonder if they mixed this on up by saying, "take time to smell the roses."

This one crosses my thoughts often - have never known the origin -

"There but for the grace of God, go you and I."

Thanks, so much, for correcting my quote. Many years ago my Grandma gave me a beautiful gold praying hands Bible book mark which had that engraved on it. It has always been very special to me. Now here's one that was in a devotional that I copied and have kept. Hope you enjoy.

"Slow me down, Lord.
Ease the pounding of my heart
By the quieting of my mind.
Steady my harried pace
With a vision of the eternal reach of time.
Give me, Amidst the confusion of each day,
The calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tension of my nerves
With the soothing music
Of the singing streams
That live in my memory.
Help me to know
The magical restoring power of sleep,
Teach me the art
Of taking minute vacations
To look at a flower;
To chat with an old friend
Or to make a new one;
To pat a stray dog;
To watch the spider build a web,
To smile at a child;
Or to read a few lines from a good book.
Remind me each day
That the race is not always to the swift;
That there is more to life
Than increasing its speed.
Let me look upward
Into the branches of the towering oak
And know that it grew great and strong
Because it grew slowly and well.
Slow me down, Lord,
And inspire me to send my roots deep
Into the soil of life's enduring values
That I may grow toward the stars
Of my greater destiny."

I love padre's quote it was my email signature for a long time and was on my page here it may still be I guess I should check. My current favorite is actually a small collection:

Work like you don't need the money.

Love like you've never been hurt.

Dance like nobody's watching.

Sing like nobody's listening.

Live like it's Heaven on Earth.

old_rose,
I like that! Heard plenty of times, just w/o the last line, which is what makes it!! Much better your way!

Beseach me not to leave thee,
or turn back from following after thee;
for wherever you l go, I will go;
for wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people'
And your God, my God.
where you die, I will die,
and there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts thee from me.

I have loved this since I was around 15.

There is a song and one of the lines that tell the Powerful love of God the Father for us is:

"And he grew the tree, that he knew would be...The old rugged cross.

and my 4 year old GD when I buy her something Contained in a large squeal
"Ohhhhh Thank You,.... Nonnie" Now the 2 yr old squeals on the phone to everybody who will listen " It's Nonnie!" WOW to be that special is heavenly.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

That is special....you are special.....

One that I have thought of recently, and I should think of more, is:

I am not who I THINK I am..

I am not who YOU THINK I am...

I am, who I THINK, YOU THINK, I am......

It takes several readings to understand, ....well it DID for Me.....but it is about as true as true can be.

LOL Woofy, My cousin always used to say "I've never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul"!

LOL Woofens -

Quoting:
God never gives you more than you can handle

I've also seen it as:
Quoting:
God never gives you more than you can handle,
I just wish he didn't think I could handle so much!

Which is how I feel right now!~ Suzi ♥

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh boy Suzi do I know that feeling.... I used to add "but I think he is pushing to see how much it takes to break me"

I kept repeating that, about not getting more than you can handle and everything happening for a reason when we were at Childrens last year.

Pati, LOL I like that one too. Although I do know a guy that was buried in a cement underground vault with his motorcycle. The permits and stuff were a nightmare, and he had died in a wreck on the bike. His friends and family spent almost $20,000 restoring the bike to the condition it was in before the wreck before they buried it. That is devotion

Janis

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

hmmm I choose to think of that as an incredible waste of money, but it was his and his family/friends money. Hopefully he didn't leave a couple kids or wife that needed the money! ~ Suzi ♥

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh my goodness, Woofy. You sure woke up an old memory! In NC there were twin boys that weighed over 300 lbs each. They had special motorcycles built...and they were huge! When one of the boys died they had his full sized motorcycle sculptured in stone and mounted on top of his head stone. It must have cost a pretty penny!!
Pati

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

No, Suzi, he was young, just barely out of his teens, still lived at home, worked and paid all his bills, his bike was his pride and joy. He started working and saving for that bike as soon as he was able. I think it was in their minds more in honor of him than anything. The last thing they could do for him, was fix his baby (the bike), and let him be with it always. I grew up with and I am still a part of the "biker" community... so I sort of understand why they did it. I thought at the time and still do believe that the money would have been better going ot ABATE or somewhere like htat so that it could have helped promote motorcycle safety, and trying to teach the dangers of drinking and driving on a bike. For some reason, people don't seem to realize that D&D is just as bad if not worse than D&D in a car.

Ok, I"ll quit now, sorry if I sounded like I was on a soapbox :)

Janis

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Pati, I vaguely remember reading something about that years ago!! That would be a site to see wouldn't it?

Janis

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

Janis,
D&D is terrible and 10x worse on a bike, no protection from self +/or others, whatsoever! At 49 + w/ my knee probs have had and the back probs still have... wouldn't be able to safely handle a bike any more. Almost told them to take it off my license last time, but thought perhaps I'll keep the license; maybe I'll get a trike later on... ~ Suzi ♥

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Don't have it taken off you're liscense... you'll regret it. One of my best friends is looking for a trike right now, he used to have Barney purple one LOL

After I injured my back in 95 in a car wreck, it is just too painful for me to ride anymore. Just distances are ok, but anything more and I'm in tears. Breaks my heart... my earliest memory is riding my sted dad's bike home from the babysitters.. I was 3 :)
