Sometimes in reading we come upon a quote which gives meaning and better understanding to us. These are a few that mean a lot to me. Do you have a favorite?

"It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."
"Only in our dreams are we free, the rest of the time we need wages"

When my daughters were growing up they used to say "I want this" or "I want that" and my favorite quote was to say
"You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need"
You can tell what generation I came from.
To this day my DD's hate that quote!
"Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much!"
A couple that have been favorites for years...
"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." --Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." -- Albert Einstein
lol tombstonejan
i love that song! :)
Isn't it the truth. I think that we pray for this and pray for that or we want this and want that but our higher power, be it God or Mom, always seems to give us what we need, not always exactly what we want.
Rest in Peace--he didn't want to kill a baby dragon.
Shall I be the first to say...what???
It appears that something was deleted from the first part of catlover's post. :) Sorry, but I don't understand it either...
hmmm, baby dragon = snake, right?
Just trying to figure it out.

My Mom always said: "You can either be good or lucky, but lucky's better."
Don
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
I don't know if that is my favorite, but I use it a lot.
When I worked, and did a lot of lengthy (and expensive) systems projects, we would sometimes have to remind the customer: "speed, price, and quality: pick two."
When you think about it, it's pretty true with most things in life: you can have something fast and cheap (but probably not high quality), fast and good quality (but it'll cost you a pretty penny!), or cheap and good (but don't expect it anytime soon.)
Personal favorite expression? Mmmm, at least one of my favorites is a scripture written by the apostle Paul: "...for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content." (Philippians 4) I'm still a long way from reaching the level of contentment Paul is describing, but I hope I can get there someday ;o)
If you throw something away you will probably need it the day afterward.
Don't know who said this, but it works for me!
I use this one on my wierdo neurotic dog when he's acting like a goof to try to get my attention. (p.s. I made it up, so go easy... lol)
"What's your malfunction junction?"
I feel more like I do now than I did. And, Free advice is worth every penny.
Carpe Diem! That is, seize the day, enjoy the present, as opposed to placing all hope in the future.
Celia, I have a great wav file of Robin Williams saying that very thing -- I've used it for my e-mail sound!
I like this quote from Proverbs 3: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths".
It helps me remember that I am NOT going to understand everything in this life, as much as I wish I could, and that He is the one who ultimately directs my paths. That's a very comforting thing to me.
I like these...
"Memory is the one paradise out of which we cannot be driven"
"If you're not the lead dog the view never changes"
"I'm only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hair spray I wear and the friends I keep"
"No one can take advantage of you without your permission"
"Fear is the little darkroom where negatives are developed"
"If you're lonely when you're alone you are in bad company"
