We got a spell checker!!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I just found it Dave!! Good going!! With my West KY public education, it's a most wonderful addition.

Many Thanks!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Where is it?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

karrie, if you misspell a word AND you bother to preview your post before you hit "send" (some do; some of us live dangerously), you'll get a prompt if a word is spelled wrong. It took me a while to find it - it finally dawned on me I'd have to spell something wrong for a spell checker to kick in ;o)

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL! how very cool. =)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Wow- long time coming - so greatful!! Thanks Dave!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

That is neat! I'll definitely have to be sure to "preview" my posts!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

were is it???? how do i get it on mine? i just did a test and it didnt work

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Cheking to see if myne wurks.

Nope!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Okay, type your mangled message and hit PREVIEW. Look up above the text box, and a dotted line will appear beneath the misspelled words. Correct them, hit "preview" again until no dotted line appears ;o)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

When you preview your post, a questionable word will be underlined in the preview window.

You still have the responsibility of looking it up and making the changes, but it sure gives you a heads up. I'm bad about hitting an extra letter here and there...that's how I discovered it.

edited to say that Terry and I were typing at the same time...great minds think alike...yeah, right :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I don't get a dotted line anywhere either, not in the text box or the message above it.

Terry -

I'm a really badd speeler and this wood be a greet tool, but I'm afrayd it whill not work four me.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I tried it as well but the words spelt incorrectly weren't underlined.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It's there...I just checked to see.

You have to look in the preview window and then make your changes in the text box.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I saw the preview box...but the incorrectly spelt words weren't underlined.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Hmmm...don't know the answer. It's most definitely there on mine.

I had to respell definitely three times to get it right.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Perhaps this thread should have gone on the "Jokes and Chat" Forum. lol!!!!!!!

Mellody -

Yoo may see it, somme of us arn't seaing itt.

I hate to mention this, but I am seeing shades of the "text size change" thing. It works in Firefox for me, but not in IE which I've gone back to because of some issues I have had with Firefox

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I thought I would check it out and this is what I wrote: well, I bettr chek et out...........guess what? It didn't show me any underlined words. Just looked like the normal type post. Of course, I didn't go ahead and hit send after I saw it did nothing to warn me of misspelled words. Is it possible that those words are all properly spelled and I don't know it?

Maybe it is because I'm in IE right now.

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

the same for me, dido, =)

The spell checker probably doesn't work for old browsers, so if you have Netscape 4 or a similarly ancient browser, the spell checker willn't work for you.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Trying this again. I hav a panie en mi hed.

There is the problem. I'm in Firefox right now and have words underlined in black waiting for correction. Cool.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I have a new browser with I.E. so lemme se if it wurk fer me!

Hmmm..... I clicked the preview button, and all it showed me was what my post would look like, and the words are still mis-spelled. I thought April fools day was a little over a month from now!

Dave -

Doesn't work for IE 6.0.2800..........

Not that big a deal, if I really have a question about my spelling I just cut/paste it into Word. :-)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I wunder if having another speelcheck is the problem, like IEspell?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I'm running Netscape...whatever the latest version is. It may have something to do with the browser.

I was over in my myZF forum earlier today and found it by accident over there...I scooted over to DG and checked it, and it worked here too.

Sorry that I got everyone excited...but I do promise...it's on my computer, and I have nothing special loaded in for a spell check. I'm pretty 'e-challenged', so it has to be here by itself.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Very true - I'm not that worried abowt the spelleing eeithur. As long as peeple can tel whut I am sayeing it is not a big deel!

Actually, I am a fairly good speller, but do spell some things wrong occasionally. If I am really that concerned about my spelling, I'll go get out a book and look it up before I click the submit button.

I just asked hubby, and we have the 6.0 I.E. loaded on this particular machine.

Northern California, CA

I keep an old version of Netscape around for sentimental reasons, don't even ask what they are. :-)

So let's see what 6.0.03 Netscape does with

The quik slie foxx jummped ovr the lazee browwn dogg.

The underlines appear in this old version of Netscape, works in Firefox, not in IE 6.0whatever.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Looks like we will be updating our Netscape!! :) I too am using IE 6.????

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

We don't use netscape here, and I highly doubt that my hubby is going to switch to that, just for a spell check in Daves Garden.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Ok - letds seee if this works

I guess it diiiidl lol!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I keep an old IE browser around..it's 5.0...just switched to see if it works with it...and it does not.

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

i have millenium and on msn explorer. i still don't get it. guess i am out of luck!! will have to keep hubby or the dictionary around. lol unless someone can tell me how to get it???

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, I wouldn't switch browsers just for spellcheck, but I would (and did) change from IE for stability, speed, and fewer pop-ups ;o)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

hmmm - I guess that it's what you are used to. Our computers are here mostly for his business, so he's the decision maker on them, he used to build computers, (before Dell and Gateway put him out of business) and he said that he prefers I.E., but that it is a personal choice, based on what you are used to. I value his opinion, as he is the guru that knows all when I get in trouble.

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

well i hope this works. i spell so bad. i just remembered that i have ieSpell!!! if i right click on my message it comes up with a list of other things. i just click on spell check and it checks my spelling!! i just forgot i had it and never use it. daaa!!! maybe some one should check my head!!! lol

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Oh, yah, I like this feature!!! I wish it worked with IE! I'll wait patiently...
