spring bulbs pictures
Ahhh ecobioangie! I could feel the sunshine on your back as you walked around your property looking at all your plants! Hmmmm come on spring! Today it was cold and very windy
here in Good Old Iowa.
cici77, that's exactly what happened to me a few years back and they never got any taller than that...I actually stopped planting them because of it...but last year I got some bulbs cheap and tryed them again and they came up beautifully! To this day I can't figure out what happened.. Bev
double post. oops! :)

I bet if y'all asked Mark he'd have an answer for you. :)
The sun was on my back and in my face and in my eyes all day! lol It was glorious. :) I spent my whole day clearing out the brush so the new shoots have room to grow. The leftover crocus in the shade and my early daff's are happy as Larry, and the tulips are all 3 inches out of the ground.
Should have taken pictures of all the tiny pointy sprouts yesterday. It was sunny and warm enough to prune the altheas wearing just a light jacket. This morning everything is covered with snow, and it's still falling. Beautiful though, with every twig outlined.
There's a chipmunk outside my window as confused as I am. I guess he thought it was safe to wake up from his semi-hibernation, and now his toes are cold while he looks for that corn that was there yesterday!
Sounds like everything and everyone has a right to be confused right now in New York, Julie.
Hi cici77,
Hyacinth need to experience a coldness for a certain fixed time.
If the temperature rise suddenly when they start to grow out, they start to bloom before their flower stalk is fully grown.
I don't know this is true in your case though.....
anahi,
Your flowers are so beautiful! Especially the 1st one. The color combination is perfect!!

goldenfish, i think it is our temps lately.. yesterday was 85 and today is suppose to be 90 to 95.. we went from cool 50 degree weather and rain to this hot temp.. i love the warm weather but i didnt know t was gonna mess up my hyacinths..): i havent grown bulbs (other then glads) for 6 years or more.. and i had no clue back then .. this is really the first year i planted them with intrest in bulbs... the ones that still seem to be growing before blooming are the ones that are shaded during the day .. take a look...
darnit!!!! wouldnt u know it i put the blurry one in!!!! sigh.. oh well u get the idea.. i also had some daffodils that didnt bloom.. i think it was cause of teh nursery i bought them.. i heard they couldnt be stored in high temps and the nursery was hotter the u know where when i bought them.. so i dont know why they didnt put flowers out.. alot of my other ones thought are getting ready to put out flowers... (: here is tulip shirley.. the stem is getting longer day by day... and the color is getting whiter and the edges getting more purple.. (:
goldenfish, you may be right about the hyacinth. It could be that when we have a length of time in the spring that is uncommonly warm, then it goes back to freezing temps and snow again (very typical in Iowa!) it causes them to break out too early...this would be a good question for Brent and Becky bulbs. Although, cici77 is in Ca. Is it possible that the bulbs didn't get enough cold weather?
cici77 and anahi,
How right you are. We have to more pay attention to the condition of bulbs when they are stocked in a nursely.
cici77, when did you plant these hyacinth? I think if you plant them earlier in next time, they will be OK.
goldenfish... i planted them on oct 31st... but our winter this year was very mild...although, they say hyacinths only need 50 degree weather for like 5 weeks.. i KNOW we have had more then that.. plus i think if they didnt get enough cool weather the flower wouldnt come up ( like my daffs) ... the nursery i bought them at said today that theirs is comming up the same way... they think that its because of the change in weather... going from cold (to us) then hot.. it was 95 today.. it was beautiful today and i am getting my farmers tan...lol.. my back and face are burnt... anyway the flower keeps growing bigger with more blooms.. the very first time i grew hyacinth 6 or more years ago they never did that maybe because it had more shade... infact they only had morning sun till about 10:30 then they would get shade from there on out.. these ones that are blooming now are in full sun.. soooo i think thats whats wrong.. i have been taking pics nearly every day to see the progress... and compairing pics i can see they are growing with more blooms.. anyway thanx for everyones input!
frogsrus, i wish the ice would work!!! lol.. i think it might melt too fast with our heat!!!! lol...
My hyacinths do the stemless thing, too. I also think it has to do with the temperature. They do come back and rebloom every year, though.
My hyacinths have long stems but they aren't strong enough to hold the flowers up.They flop over. They have been in the ground for 3 years and have divided. Could that be the reason?
I can only imagine the sweet scent of the freesias. Beautiful!
my freesia smells like frootloops!!!! lol, beautiufl pics!!!! glad u guys finally got spring where ur at! we just got a bunch of rain down here in s. cal...wierd, usually northern cal gets alot more rain then us...
chrissy
These have reseeded very prolifically. The seedlings look like grass with the little seedpods still clinging to the tops I started to pull them up thinking they were grass but they feel slick so I left them. Will have a few to give away sometime next fall maybe. Anybody know how long they would take to bloom?
Ooooh Mary :) Beautiful !!
oh i meant to say in that last post: Mary those are bbbeeeeaaauuutiful!!!! and ananhi.. i love those iris!!!!! are those dwarf>???? the blooms on my beardeds are almost open!!! whooo-hhooo , i have never had any kind of iris... (:

My daffs are in full bloom right now and the tulips just opened yeaterday. Grape hyacinths are showing color and glory of the snow are just finishing up their bloom. Sorry but no digi to take photos.
