making a font change today

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had the same problem last night, so I went back in and unchecked "ignore font sizes specified on web pages". When finished, all sites were back like they should be. I was surprised to find that before I did that, I couldn't get a good font size on here either. It seemed to change the side bar on the left, but not much change in the text. I'm on Foxfire 0.8. I can't say that I'm sure I like it yet either. When I back out of a page here, sometimes, it won't let me back and I have to go back to my homepage.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

When I first brought up DavesGarden the font had a strange appearance, almost blotchy, the characters seemed to have pixels missing. I restarted Mozilla and things were better. Now this morning it seems as though the font has been changed back.

Is it better now?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Hi Dave, All of a sudden the new fonts kicked in...Why did it take so long to get my computer, I wonder. Do you suppose my computer was waiting for the 80,000 person to sign up? LOL....Kathy :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Looks good today.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Dave :). it is much better!

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

If you're using Firefox and the cntrl/scroll won't work, try cntrl + and cntrl - to increase and decrease font size.

Princeton, IL(Zone 5a)

Hadn't changed at all for me until I looked this afternoon. It is still okay!

Now when I enlarge the font it makes the blue names larger but does not enlarge the print on the actual posts size :~(

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, I take it back. It's doing the same thing. And for me, the blue names increase/decrease equally, but the blue is less prominent.

I think it's just awful, but clearly I'm in the minority. I have to scroll constantly even to go from one screen to another as nothing fits on the page and thread titles take up 3-4 lines; the side menu isn't even visible on most of the pages. I don't think it is reasonable to have to change the screen resolution for the entire Internet just to accommodate DG.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh, give me a home where the fonts are full blown and the dear feeble sighted can play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word and new specks are not needed today.

Home, Home at DG, Where even my old eyes can see.....

I switched to Firebird and it works fine. But since IE is the browser that works best on my blog and several other sites it is a hassle to switch back and forth.

I really don't know why it's not working for ya'll. I am looking at DG on my laptop using Internet Explorer and it looks perfect.

All I did was specify the font size to be 12-point and -that's it-!

Sigh. I don't know why it's not working. Back to the drawing board. I really do want to specify the font size so I need to fix this rather than just back out the changes.

dave

How is it now?

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

It looks great to me & I use Netsc 7.02.

Hi Dave -

Dontcha just hate it when this stuff happens.

I've tried various personal "fixes" and found that if I alter my IE preferences/view/ignore web pages fonts to make the new font a "reasonable" size, it messes up most other sites. So I'm using Firefox (and reduced the loaded page font size down two levels) for DG and am back to using IE for everything else.

Could it be the choice of the Font itself? (Verdana as opposed to something else that is standard)

The only way I can describe the look is that it is similar to what happens when Windows opens in safe-mode. This is also true of what happens when a post is "previewed." As the message is typed the text appears "normal", but the text in the preview box is pretty big and messy looking.

I don't really have an issue with the fonts....I can work with most anything that works for the majority and continue to enjoy DG.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

it looks great on this end. i only use Firefox/Firebird 0.7, no other browser for me. i did not change changes made from last night, indicated on Feb. 13,2004, 1:35 a.m.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't know if this will help, but here's a screen print showing what it's like going from one site to another. The first is Sears.com, the second is DG - which I went to in the same tab directly from Sears.com. Firefox 8 is my browser and I have it set to the default for fonts and colors - no changes made.

No change here -- still huge on IE.

Edited to say that I just checked it on Netscape, and it's perfect -- on IE, the font looks at least six or seven times larger. The default font size on both my IE and Netscape is set at 12 points.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Too large for me too!! I'm having to move my chair way back.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

My display is at 800x600 pixels; with Internet Explorer 6.0.2; text size is at medium, and it's perfect! I love how the new font looks now. Oh, by the way, I'm also using Windows XP. Just FYI, Dave.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Just managed to change the size!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

the left side keeps getting bigger (names..etc) the right side keeps getting smaller..*she says as she squints her eyes to read*

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Looks great to me!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I like it:) and by deleting some of the 4's Kooger, it brought my page back to normal.. That's a lesson learned for me.. (I like dots and smileys). :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't know if it would make a bit of difference since it's a font, but try clearing your browser cache.

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't see any problem here. I'm using Netscape and everything is fine.

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm in N/S now & the fonts is much smaller but very sharp just not a dark.. I can live with it. I may end up having to if I don't get java working in firefox :(

Think I need to go to bed :D

I think we need to be looking in the Firefox support forum at http://forums.mozillazine.com -- They're the folks best equipped to get it working for all of us. We're all just muddling along here at DG, none of us experts in this browser yet.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

GW, thank you, thank you, thank you! I was going nuts, the old 'Mouse-Ctrl-Scroll' trick didn't work and I forgot how to get to "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages". That did it and all is well again. Now I added it to my gyp-sheets.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Great, Max! :)

About this font thing, with Firefox, anyway...

It does say on the mozillazine.com forums that NONE of the themes for Phoenix and Firebird are fully compatible with Firefox -- that users should use the default Firefox theme until the third-party theme developers update the components so they'll all work correctly with Firefox.

I don't know if having a different theme installed would affect the font issue at DG or not (I kinda doubt it, but stranger things have happened), but it is something to try.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

ok, I managed to find the setting to ignore fonts and was able to set it so I can see the print again :~)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Just back from France
What a shock to find nothing fitting on the page and my eyes hurting from the lettering being so HUGE :(

I've used the scroll to try and make it smaller and only the blue script changes. The rest remains a most uncomfortable size

I'd rather not change browser settings as every other website I visit seems fine...

Come back good old settings Dave ~ pleeeeease
.....or if you want a fixed font perhaps 10 wwould work?

Philomel, you and I seem to be having exactly the same problems with it -- we seem to be a minority of only two, so the cause of the difficulty is hard to fathom. I use a Mac iBook (with IE as the default browser) and don't have any of the override settings that our colleagues have used to overcome the problem.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Hi whiterose :)
I use Windows 98 SE and IE 5.5 I think.
I'm loathe to change any browser settings as everything else works fine - DG alone that's out of sinc.

Ulrich and zany - do you put out the appearance of other websites by doing that?

justmelisa - that's really funny because for me it's just the opposite! Right hand side too big to fit and read comfortably, left side place names huge but the rest the size I'd like for all of it (much smaller)

How about now?

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Now the ctrl and scroll works to enlarge the print.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Oooooh fantastic - thanks so much Dave!!!

It all fits now and I don't have to sit on the other side of the room to read it ;-D

Dave, it looks absolutely wonderful -- thank you so much! Glad yours is working now, too, Philomel!
