making a font change today

I'll be changing the fonts on the DG sites later on today. Currently the font size is not set at all, leaving you to set it in your browser to whatever you wish.

I want to change that, so I'll be changing the style sheet to move all fonts to a 12 point font. It should happen later this afternoon.

Should we expect any 'down time'?

(If so I'll plan my errands around it!) :>)

For a font change? No. :) I have already made the change. :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I noticed my text box typing looks different ;o)

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

I like it very much!

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Beautiful Change! I like it! Easier to read ..

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Hmmm, I don't notice anything different. :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thank goodness you didn't change to the handwriting font Chris Pirillo uses on the IE version of his blog. *shudder*

I like it Dave, thank you, it is much easier to read.

I LOVE it!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Thought my eyes was playin' tricks on me there for a minute. Nice and neat, and fits the page.

It's neat but I wish it was a little bolder. It's awfully faint......

I must agree with woodspirit1.
It's neat looking, but harder for some of us to read when it's so faint.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

If you'd like the font bolder and don't mind it being bigger, too, you could do this: If you have a scroll mouse, hold down your keyboard's control key (CTRL) and scroll down with your scroll mouse to enlarge the font.

If you don't have a scroll mouse, click your browser's VIEW menu and look for the selection to change the font size.

You can also make your browser use your own font choice all the time, overriding website settings -- but the content sometimes displays oddly that way.

Some of the forums don't fit the page at all, and some are okay. But it's very annoying to have such a large font on a laptop screen; it is no longer possible to see anything at a glance, as before.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

If the font is too big, you can change your screen's resolution which will increase the clarity and decrease the size. Surely we have instructions for doing that somewhere around here...

Thanks, Terry.

Mine is Miniture,hard to read.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

In IE, try this:

1. Click TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS
2. On the GENERAL tab, click the ACCESSIBILITY button
3. Checkmark "ignore font sizes specified on web pages"
4. Click OK
5. On the GENERAL tab again, click the FONTS button
6. Click the font styles you prefer and click OK
7. Click OK again

In Firebird/Firefox, try this:

1. Click TOOLS > OPTIONS
2. Under GENERAL, click the FONTS AND COLORS button
3. Choose the fonts sizes, styles and colors you want
4. Under "always use my" and checkbox next to "fonts"
5. Click OK
6. Click OK again

I don't have Netscape or other browsers installed, but the fonts setting should be under TOOLS > OPTIONS or EDIT > PREFERENCES...Something like that.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

GW,You amaze me!!Thanks!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I have friends whose blogs display at such a tiny size, I can't read them. What's more, unless I specify my own font size, I can't resize the text at their sites. Trial by fire, root!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

I like it too

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

and here I thought I had a 'puter virus,glad I came here.

I wonder why holding down my ctrl key and scrolling is not working this time, it worked before...

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I tried holding down ctrl and scrolling and it wouldn't work for me either.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hmmmmm...Not sure why. Try rebooting? Couldn't hurt, LOL!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

rebooting does not help either.

i change font sizes to 20. no changes either. i could hardly see what i am reading. everything is so small and almost blurry. sorry i tried everything. nothing seems to work

i have Mozilla Firebird 0.7

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

What a mystery! Do other programs show up okay? Did your screen resolution get reset to a higher one, maybe? What do other things look like on your screen, like your desktop icons?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

desktop look as normal as ever. other url are all the same, no changes. only problem to read font size and color is on DG... everything look blurry and faint color.

when i convert from Netscape 7.1 to Mozilla Firebird 0.7, everything was ok till now :(. at the time of conversion, font size was 12 and 12

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't know what it could be - I am using Firefox 8 and it looks fine. The fonts are scalable for me with CTRL+Mousewheel.

If you go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > GENERAL > FONTS & COLORS, what is your display resolution set at?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Firefox 0.7 is different than ur

TOOLS> OPTIONS> WEB FEATURES>FONTS & COLORS >

DISPLAY RESOLUTION->72 DPI
MINIMUM FONT SIZE > NONE

i did not change the display resolution nor the minimum font size.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, I'm completely stumped!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

we just worked you too hard today!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

hope this help someone else with this kind of problem. i played around and see what will work, and this is what i find satisfactory.

Remember this is for Firefox 0.7
TOOLS> OPTIONS> WEB FEATURES>FONTS & COLORS >
change:
Display Resolution..> 96 dpi
Minimum font size..> 20

thanks for the help Kimberly. i guess i was desperate and feeling nearly blind for the faint color and blurry font size. i had to find what will work best.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ha! Oh, yeah, tiG, I'm dyin' here, can't you tell?

MaVieRose - Because the fonts are listed in pixels and not points, it makes things interesting! All I can figure is, the size of a user's monitor, coupled with the resolution it's set at, affects how the font size is displayed when fonts are given an absolute size value in points.

This is starting to sound like something for Dr. John Nash to scrawl all over some chalkboard...

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

I was having a heck of a time with the new font change. Couldn't get anything to look good. Tonight I finally had the time and patience to download Firefox and now everything looks gorgeous! And the cntrl/scroll works for increasing/decreasing size, which it wouldn't in IE. Very nice. And a great inspiration to work on configuring Firefox for my default browser. Hey, Dave, was changing the font a subliminal message to get it together and change to Firefox? Well, it worked.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

if it is of any help i have 17" Panasync E70G monitor. i am using Windows 2000.

am not intending to switch to Firefox 0.8 as yet, i had a hard time trying to learn how to make Firebird 0.7 work well to my satisfaction. i am still in the learning process here! am just glad i was able to set up my bookmarks and address book the way i had them prior to switching.

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

MaVieRose, I have the Apple 20" Studio monitor and I suspect that was a lot of my problems with the font issue with IE. Since it wasn't made for PC, there are sometimes configuration problems with getting screens to look ok. Whatever the problem was, downloading Firefox sure took care of the fonts looking funky. I've only had it for two hours and I can say I'm loving the look.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I hate it! OK, hate may be too strong a word but it is hard to read and I have it set for the largest type size. But out of curiosity tried to reduce the size. It stays the same no matter how I set it and the control and scroll does not enlarge it either. My eyes blur trying to read it now.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Okay, I'm noting something. If I use Firefox, if DG is at a readable size for me, every other site I visit is so tiny I can't read it. When I increase the font size at the other sites so I can read them, and then go back to DG, the fonts here are HUGE. In IE, font sizes remain consistent, nomatter what site I visit.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I'll just put on my glasses......it's easier.
