Yeah, I think I could even landscape the curve method, after watching a few of those. But then I can't afford to spend $25 thousand and bring in the big equipment for the major landscape changes they do on that other show. I did see part of one yesterday that hasn't been on much, "Bugs and Blooms" I think was the name. I thought it might be informative, but I got interrupted by a phone call and didn't see much of it. Is it worth it?
Why isn't there a.......
Melody, you took the words right out of my mouth,no meat to the shows,I'd like to see a good show on propagation, air layering, grafting, hardwood, softwood cuttings,on all kinds of plants.Like to see how the big nurseries fertilize there plants and what they are using for fertilizer. Now there cloning plants,by tissue cells, who knows what technology in the plant world there using today, and what plants they are trying it on,orchids I imagine, everybody has orchids except me can't grow a single one,and they say they are the easiest plant to grow!!!
Some advanced topic how-to's would be great; I will vote for Gardener's Diary as one show that at least tends to focus on mature gardens, and they don't shy away from botanical names (it gets two green thumbs up from me!)
Yes and they talk slow on the show, must be that southern drawl, and her hats, just have to see what hat she'll be wearing, yep 2 thumbs of here as well.
drawl? WHAT drawl? I cain't hear a drawallllll....
2 thumbs up here for Erica except when she seems to patronize lower income gardeners. Just mho :)
Terry now hun,you all got to listen mo closely to hear it!!!
Don't even get me started on the subject of HGTV!!! I've personally written to their home office on more than one occasion! They don't even have the common courtesy to reply!! What does that tell you???!!!
When it comes to programming gardening shows, they are surely lacking!!! For example, when their "new" 2004 season began, I was still watching re-runs from last year's "A Gardener's Diary"!
Kathy Renwald hosts an interactive gardening show in British Columbia. How do I know this? I've seen the show while we were vacationing one summer in B.C. People from the audience would ask her gardening questions from the audience, as well as, having guest speakers on various gardening topics.
HGTV prefers to have shows on homes, re-modeling projects, and others programming that bring in the big bucks, compared to gardening!!! Our dissapointments and displeasure with this t.v. network just "fall on deaf ears", IMHO!!!
I'm with you Shirley, its rerun city with hgtv.
It must be very difficult to find good sponsors for gardening shows,Maybe we should write better homes and gardening magazine,or even pbs to see if they could come up with some new and different gardening shows.
After watching a decent remodelling show on HGTV last night (Divine Design), I brought up the subject of this thread with my housemate, who is a wannabe gardener.
She defended the HGTV gardening shows at first, but as we talked more about how many good gardeners there are out there, and how little thay get from HGTV, her suggestion was that we write as a group from DG to HGTV asking for better shows.
Anyone want to draft a letter/petition we can email around DG for signatures before sending to HGTV?
I'll be offline from this evening for at least a week or more, due to moving.

The HGTV headquarters is here in Knoxville, Tennessee. In talking with someone that works there, I learned that the majority of their programming is independently produced. They don't design many programs but instead wait for these independent producers to approach them with program ideas. A significant number of their programs are produced out of California. Maybe if we watched the credits closer, we could identify some of these producers and send them our suggestions.
Darius and Nat I think your on to something.
Every city has garden tours every spring and summer,if we could convince some independent producer to visit some of these towns and cities, and get some of these gardens on film
for the rest of the garden communities to see on television.
Even here in Wichita Kansas,we have water garden tours, besides the spring and fall garden tours.I for one would love even to see the flower garden shows, that all the cities put on each spring, here ours is on for 4 days, and a sell out each day,in fact it is probably the biggest attraction in the city.
Great idea, and have them air at a time when we are not loosing precious daylight gardening time but please not at 2 in the morning. We need our beauty sleep, well, at least most of us do. Early to bed, early to rise.......
Makes you healthy wealthy and wise!!!!!
I hope so!
You mean you guys actually have time to watch t.v.???
Only when the temps are below freezing with snow on the ground!!!Pick axe gardening under the ice what a great gardening topic.LOL!
Well, that explains a lot. No snow on the ground here. I can't say never, ever, but I haven't seen any in 16 years.
Well then your way over due for some!!!LOL
