Chris, hey thanks for the web address. I put myself on the waiting list too.
Think this will stink?
Hopefully your wait will be as short as mine.
Dean emailed me and said that one of the varieties that I ordered wasn't in very good shape. I think it was Amorphophallus paeoniifolius.
He asked if I wanted a titanum for $15.00 more including pot and heat pack. He has 2 of them in his personal collection, and I'm getting one of them. Yay!!!!
Deans a good guy. He started off as a customer of mine 2 years ago and has been wondrdull to work with both buying and selling.
Chris
Chris, lucky you!!!! I am envious. I can just see the neighbors now. you can charge admission!!!!
Yeah. I'm pretty excited. I've wanted one of these forever.
Did you get my email earlier?
Chris
No, did you send me one? I sent you one asking about shipping dates on the blue moons and the others.
Yeah. It was sent about 45 minutes ago. I'll forward it from my other email address. I seem to be getting filtered by a lot of ISP's lately.
Chris
Got it that time. I am so excited about the blue moons. I will have something that hardly anyone else around has!!!!! This is gonna be great!!!!!!
rylaff, what's a "blue moon"?
I have not heard anything from the lady with the bulbs.....I will keep everyone informed in a new post if and when I do. She was not home when I stopped last week, so I left her a note in her mailbox. I don't think my bulbs will bloom this year, they maxed themselves out last spring.
We had a scare, and almost didn't get any John.
There were only 2k produced this year due to low rain fall in Thailand, and the yileds across the board were down. I have 500 and the other 1500 are all going to Japan. You'll see I took it off the order form, which reminds me, I need to put it back up.
Only a few more weeks.
just found this im still laughing picturing root gagin and snapping pics! it is pretty!!! lol lol lol
my family has had those for years i did have a good supply of them till last year when i lost my green house and i lsot most of them. the few extra i do have are already promised. but i remember one year i had one open in the living room it was not to bad and i thought one of the cats died took me 2 days to figure out what it was that stank so bad (duh) the same thing happened a year or two earlyer in the green house. Dad said that he thought one of the stray cats got in the GH and died I told him to look at what he was standing next to lol
Funny story Troy. They must be really awful. Is there any way to hold them back long enough that they don't bloom until they are outside?
actully they are not to bad depending on there size and your sense of smell. to hold them back as long as possable do not let them get to warm is the only sugestion i can offer
Thanks. I've noticed that mine in the cool basement are not making a lot of growth yet. Maybe a couple of inches tall so far. This may not even be a bloom coming out of it. My first year with these ya know. LOL!! Maybe my last????
they usually need to be a few inches across to bloom
Hot dog. They're here.
Just received my Amophophallus from Cooks.
Amorphophallus Dracunculus Vulgaris
Amorphophallus konjac
Amorphophallus Sauromatum Venosum
and the grand daddy of them all.........
Amorphophallus titanum.
I can't wait to get these going. The titanum came in a 4" pot with foliage.
Chris
Chris, PLEASE take a picture. I want to see what it looks like now as a baby.
Hello everyone, been gone awhile, I'm glad to see everyone having so much fun with there Amorph's. Hey Brugie & Waterloolily don't worry, mine are just like yours when I mailed them to you. It won't be long before they start opening their boxes. Hey Rootdoctor I can't imagine you having that dude in the house. Nice to see it anyway. Now don't forget me and the EE'S. It's so nice to talk to you guys again. I'll be back soon.
FROTO!!! So good to see you back! You have been missed my friend!!
I will give you a call very soon my friend!! I was just thinking of you today!
Will do Lisa.
I potted them all up, but I can get a picture of titanum's foliage. I'll wait a day or 2 to get it to perk back up. It's a bit weak from the journey.
Pictures of it this weekend.
Chris
I'll be waiting for that Chris, how is the foliage??Same as the lesser Arum?
Hey is it still possible to get a Titanum?
Not overly impressive Doc, but I'm hoping it's due to the shipping. If I'd had a choice I'd have rather had a dormant bulb shipped, but I was offered this one at a pretty rare price, and couldn't say no. He only had 2 and offered me 1 of them.
I wish I could have checked out the size of the bulb, as I'd like to keep a record of its progress, but I didn't want to disturb the top roots. Figure I'll let it do it's thing and measure it in the fall. I felt it up a little, and am guessing it's a 1-1.5" diamater bulb.
I did transfer to a 8" pot, to allow room for growth. It came in a 4" pot at best, and everything I'm reading says to allow room for up to 3x growth of the bulb.
Scariest part is that I'm caring for this baby, like I cared for my 1st 3 babies. I swear I went out to look at it 4 times today.
Difference is 1 of my 1st 3 babies is driving, another has a squeaky voice and shaves 3 times a year, and the third likes to take cuttings by breaking branches off and sticking them right in the ground, while saying, "Look Dad! I can make plants too!"
I have to hide these.
Chris
Hey Froto,
I got this one from Dean Cook at www.flytraps.com
He only had 2, but his site shows more coming in, and you can put your self on a waiting list for them. It's worth tossing your self on the list, to at least have a shot at getting one.
Chris
Chris, you crack me up.
LOL,Chris!! I know the feeling,I have lost 3 Auzzie Tree ferns,I tried and tried, this is the first year ,I saw one in the GH and just shook my head....
I hope it perks up for you,I would like to see a pic!
Root.
That is a good size bulb!! Whew,I know it smells,LOL,I was wondering,do you know the life expectancy of these?will they get so big and die??
What a great picture!Thank you for adding it here!
All I can say is that if the foliage is worth it, I'll keep mine. That stink scares the heck out of me and I haven't even had the opportunity to smell one yet.
Brugie the smell is so bad, u are liable to puke. don't even think about it LOL!
Oh yes, it stinks, I have another one about to bloom and in the afternoon when the sun is shinning man it's aweful. Good thing there in the greenhouse this year. I'm not sure how long they live, I do know every year they add a pound and destroy the pot that there growing in. The roots are massive, I will have to put these in 5 gallon or larger pots this year. The foliage is beautiful and that's why I keep them around.
I notice you are staying at arms distance there!!
Man, I might have to re-think growing them after I get a whiff of my first one. You guys must be able to take it though since you are still growing them. Cathy, do you fertilize a lot and what kind of growing mix do you use. If I'm going to have one, I want it to be big and beautiful. LOL!
Please forgive the weeds. This time of year, I'm to busy shipping for the beauty of others gardens, to work in mine. Once the time change hits, it's time to play.
A BABY!!!! What weeds?
