It has been growing like crazy,it opened the box by itself.
Think this will stink?
Boy, that thing is going to provide some kind of stink before long!!
Weird? Guess they are beautiful, put a clothespin on your nose. Be sure and take a pic.
I don't know ...but I'd keep the shotgun close by!!!!
I'm not turning my back on it!I think I may be getting a few more of them John,I will keep you in mind,LOL!!!!
Now a plant the opens the box itself would worry me. lol Doc you sure have a way with plants.
ROTF Hey, why not just put an odor eater on the side of the box?? :)
LOL!Maybe I will just sit my workboots by it,see if DW notices anything strange!!!
"FEED ME SEMORE" comes to mind lol, You will be hearing that soon not to mention something that smells so horrible the neighbors call the cops because they smell something funny, at least that is what happened to a good frined of mine last summer. Mine rotted this past year in the ground :( oh well, who needs a stinky plant like that anyway? :)
Excellent ideas: Michelles' odor eater sounds good, might need more than one tho'?? Keeping shotgun close, also.
Ok I havnt got my new glasses yet so I cant read anything that small and I dont recognize the plant cuz Im still discovering most of them LOL. What is it?! I wanted to say skunk something or other but have no clue.
The plant is a VooDoo lily, Dravencat. The box doesn't belong to it. Just stored in it. I'm beginning to think that I need some new glasses myself. LOL!!
oooOOOOOOooooooo, very pretty!
If you like that leaf, you should try Amorphophallus titanum.
Like Voodoo Lily, it grows a single leaf after flowering, except it's about 15 or 20 feet tall.
;-)

Edited to change name of conservatory.

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!!!
I guess you would have to use the Shopvac box for that one. LOL
I never had a plant of that.. Should I get one?
While they are the same Genus as the Voodoo Lily, Amorphophallus titanum are from Indonesia and very rare.
They have three at Kew and at other Botanical Gardens around the world.
The charming common name is "Corpse Flower".
Here is a link to a National Geographic Article about them:

Stinky!
Plant Delights catalogue had bulbs of that for sale last year for the miserly sum of $100.00 EACH. I contacted them and asked how big the bulbs were, the size of a cheerio, perhaps?? They told me no, a little bigger than that, about like your thumb, I think they said. I passed on that, will wait till someone else has one and and bulblets to trade! :>) Spouse would'a shot me if I"d have spent that much on one bulb. And he finds things like that out, more's the pity. LOL
That is going to be something else. Can't wait to hear about it once it opens.
I accidentally stumbled into the site for Ty Ty the other day. They have a few types of voodoo lily listed for sale.
Run away screaming 'chele. Check the Watchdog.
I backed out of the site after gawking. LOL I was looking something up and their link popped up so I looked, but I only LOOKED! :) Thank you for the warning.
;)
Root !!!Get out while you still can!
You remember the invasion of the body snatchers!!!
Tomorrow you'll awake finding yourself crawling out of a pod!!!LOL!
LOL Tman!!!I just put my nose in it,kinda weird, not rotten meat yet,but something starting!I see where the bottom of the flower bud is,looks like the stamines,I may have to drop some Giant EE pollen down there, man would that be a wild cross!
Careful Root, not nice to fool mother nature!!!LOL
If you too,I'd sleep with one eye open and one eye shut!!!
Gun under my pillow!!!!
Remember the Vicks!! It will help. Just think, every time the furnace fires up, it will circulate that wonderful aroma throughout the house. LOL!
LoL!Shirley,it is the AntiBrug!!!
LOL Rooty!! Watta hoot! I think if I had one of those in the house Hubby would end my gardening adventures for sure. He puts up with enuff... I bet stinking arums would be the last straw here! I was reading about one called the The Dead Horse Arum recently :)
This is the only thing DW has ever gave me the "Why are you growing this?" look!!!
Now I'm hoping that mine won't bloom until I can get it to the garage until the stink blows over. I think I have some time left though. The growth on mine is pretty slow, maybe because it is in the cool/cold basement. It sure won't have a bloom like yours does, anyway. That is huge and gorgeous.
Now Root... if you want to get some viable seeds from that spectacular bloom... yur gonna have to plug your nose and get in there with a paint brush to pollinate. Unless you have supply of flies to release!
Poppysue, should I just move the pollen around?to simulate a bug?
I think the male and female flowers are seperate on the flower stalk.
Not sure if they are open at the same time.
