I'm gonna make one that says "No soliciting - Owner is Dirt Poor."
What is your favorite garden sign?
Someone mentioned painting garden stones. Do you put on a clear coat to help the paint weather the sun and rain? I live near a river and might go and look for some small, smooth stones paint on. We also have the large mussels that look like mother of pearl on the inside. They make nice backgrounds to paint sayings on.
Because I want to be able to read the stones (not to be confused with reading "rune stones"), I am using rocks about the size of two of my fists. I am using a spray, matte finish clear coat to protect the paint from the elements, as you said. So far, I've found that the clear coat finish brings out the colors in the rocks. The mother of pearl background sounds very pretty. This has been a pretty good way to spend some of these days that aren't so great for gardening (though the last four days here have been *gorgeous*!)
Bluegrass, you need to use patio paint, I think they are called. I can look for the instructions if you want me to. I purchased the paint on rocks books (although too expensive)and bought the paints but haven't painted any yet.
maggiemoo, I LOOOVE ur directional sign... i made one but its not done... but it is up... my signs arent painted though.. they are burnt on.. i like to wood burn... and i used construction stakes... i am going for the "rustic" look.. i love the idea of the big sign at the top.. thats just what i needed to make mine look right even though mine isnt done yet! thanx so much for the pic...(:
i also LOOOOVE the garden gossip, which i would love to burn on wood... but where in the world did u get that Happenstance? it sure would save me time and be perfect for my "Wondeland" bulb bed...
here is one i want to make for my Rainbow Eucalyptus tree forest i want to plant ... so far i have one... lol
" Get down apon your bended knees, for God stands before you in these trees..."
there are few others i cant think of right now and cant seem to find in my drafts in my outlook express.... anyway thanx everyone for the great garden sign sayings... i'll have to make some of my own! (:

Has this been posted? Those who throw dirt, lose ground.
Oh Larkie, I like that one! :)
What I aspire to do is make a number of signs, that would be changed out from time to time- as the spirit moves, or seasons change... or both (I'll have several signs tucked into different places throughout the garden.) Here's a good one for now:
"I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden." Ruth Stout
maggiemoo, I luvved that old woman (Ruth Stout). Wonderfully feisty and independent. (I place her right up there with Eleanor Roosevelt.)
Anybody have the "easiest fastest best way" to make all these signs? And make them so they last a good while? (Don't tell me use a magic marker on a cardboard box!)
Shoe how funny you should say garden of weedin.
About ten years ago I built an voluptious woman and there was no misteak of her gender, of i/4 inch round bar and covered her with 1 inch chicken wire, filled her with potting soil and planted all kinds of cover and flowers in her to dress her up. one gloved hand held a hoe the othey held on to a street like post that sported the a sign that read welcome to the Garden of Weedin. Linda loved her and named her gloria Gardener. Gloria was about five feet tall with her straw hat on and stands beside our driveway.Ernie
Ernie, you've GOT to get a pic of that and post it! Would luv to see it!
Shoe I have an electric chisel for wood carving that would work well with a nice soft grained wood like pine or cedar. A die grinder with about a 1/4 or 3/8inch would do nicely as well if you wanted a rustic look. Aroto zip would also cut a good grove .
After reliveing the wood you could paint the low places that you machined and when dry sand the surface. Next seal with a good clear sealer and you got it.
Gloria needs to be replanted I will try to get her to the backyard and resarect her TLC would like to see her as well. Ernie
thanks ernie...but I'm wood-working challenged and wouldn't know how work with them gizmos you mention. Not sure I'd have the patience either...heck, I can barely print with pencil and paper anymore! (Too used to a keyboard!)
Maybe I'll try chiseling with a mini-crow bar on slate...I might could turn out one sign a year?
To see a world in a grain of sand and a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour,
``````````````````````````````
That plant wasn't a mistake, it was an experiment.
```````````````````````````````````````
one part soil,
two parts water,
and three parts prayer
````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Girls, do not scrub and cook
and scour
Until you have no time to
plant a tree or vine or flower
Where flowers bloom so does hope.
I plant the seed, you make it grow.
You send the rain, I work the hoe.
It is my favourite. Liked it very much!
Coco, I like the one about cooking and scouring. I have been Spring cleaning my closets and hoping to paint a couple of rooms soon because when the weather warms up, I am out of here!
Amen to that bluegrass!
