Whiskers Alba Grande

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

You might laugh at the first name I thought of when I looked at those blooms: Seven Dwarfs!

Can you guess why? The tendrils remind me of the shoes that the seven dwarfs wore which curl up at the end. Maybe Cinderella would be a better name if it's not taken. I think Snow White might be taken.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Clare, if the blooms weren't so large - Seven Dwarfs - would be a great name! Maybe someone will come up with a mini version of this one.

Wow guys, lots of good suggestions here. I need to print this thread out and review them. It will be hard to narrow it down. MANY THANKS! Nat

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Well, what's large and white? Sasquatch! LOL!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

There is a Cinderella

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Tennessee Lace

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

lol Clare Abominable Snowman

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Shelly. Well, maybe just "Snowman."

How about "Galadriel," the queen elf that Cate Blanchett played in "The Lord of the Rings." http://www.virgin.net/movies/moviespecials/lotr/character/galadriel.html "Her name means "radiant garland" and she is known as the Lady of Light."

"Gandalf, The White" is a great name too or just "Gandalf" by itself. http://www.virgin.net/movies/moviespecials/lotr/character/gandalf.html

"Eowyn," the White Lady of Rohan. There is no shortage of great names from "The Lord of the Rings."

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

I would save Gandalf for the first blue double:-)

Galadriel :-)? the fairy from the Loth Lorien?

Mesilla Park, NM

Lady of Light is pretty.. Clare, that is a good one.

Mesilla Park, NM

ooooh, ooooh, just thought of one that Clare put in my mind. Elfinity Magic

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Are you needing more names?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Vi, I been busy with my new dog, Molly!

Drum roll, please:::::::::::::

All of the suggestions are great and it has been difficult to decide, but here are my top favorites:

Ambrosia
Tennessee Lady
Sensation/Scentsation

So, how about everyone vote for their favorite!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Ambrosia

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

After looking up the meaning of Ambrosia (something of exquisite flavor or fragrance), I vote for it too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds good to me too.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9b)

ambrosia sounds good
isnt that the "food of the gods" ?
seems fitting :)

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

hmmmmm. i agree, ambrosia is the prettiest name for a very pretty flower.

ps. puppies are hard work huh?!?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Whew, just getting to see this thread. The parentage of this seedling is Whiskers X Ecuador Pink.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I vote for "Cheeseburger".... LOL Ambrosia is a good name

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

I just knew it had Whiskers in it! What a great cross, Cala!
My vote is Ambrosia also :)

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi Cala, glad to see you back on line.

Vi, will post picture of Molly soon.

Sounds like everyone so far really likes Ambrosia :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Cool! I have several from that cross! I can't wait to see them bloom. I only had one bloom last year but the seeds were started pretty late.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I have Whiskers x EP from BGI that I started April 2003. For some reason, I did not have the hybridizer's name. These are 6-7 ft in the greenhouse, have not yet bloomed. I'm excited to see what happens this summer.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Linda, get with John about the hybridizer, there weren't any unknown seeds.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Linda and tiG,

I have the original seed list from August 2003, when I took over as seed banker.

It shows:

Whiskers x ?- T McLeod
Whiskers x DrD- T McLeod
Whiskers x Kyle's Pink- JT Sessions [Could that be the right one? Whiskers x KP?]

One more thought:

Whiskers x ? by T McLeod: I have a notation that the pollen parent could have been Butterfly, EP, or Jean Pasko. So possibly that is where the idea of Whiskers x EP came from?

Thanks,

John

There are a few more Whiskers crosses, but all seeds received after August 2003.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

will take off this thread to avoid nat getting her brug named. you have mail. :)

I am growing 17 Whiskers x EP and they were given to me by Susie over a year ago.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Question from a brug newbie? If you leave them in a pot, what is the best type and size? Also are they heavy feeders?
Thanks

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Linda, confirmed with terry that she did have that cross in the bank.
