The place is really going downhill. Hardly any posting for last couple months. Not even worth "checking in"! I keep getting my renewal notice, since January. Why would I want to spend money there?
Same here, last night, I got the fourth renewal notice and forwarded all of them to Yahoo Spam. After e-mailing Spike and asking him to remove my name off the list for his renewal of memberships after the second time and he hasn't, now I consider it spam. (From Dec 30 thru Last night I have received 4 e-mails asking for renewal of my membership), My membership usually expires on Feb 4 of each year for the last 4 years, so why is he sending so earlly and so many? They have lost alot of contributing members. He may have alot of people that just lurk, and post (but the paid members are the ones that keep the site going).. Too bad he forgot that gardeners are also people and we need to be treated with respect.
I love this thread. I've visited there, but it's just not the warm place like it is here. I have one question - how can you tell who's banned or not? Seems strange to me....
i went to check on the thread at garden web and guess what its gone>> i guess spike decided he had enough of it.
I just came from GW and this link has been pulled...since I think I posted last over there, do you think it was something I said?

Oh my gosh, I'm going to have nightmares now. Overgrown lizards are not something I am crazy about, but he sure looks like he is enjoying feeding them. Chills..............kind of like when I see a snake.
barbi-- i was being nosy & entertained and kept up with that thread. i wouldn't say it was what you said..more the tone of the thread... the people responding to you and brugie and shayleigh were getting quite....irrate and defensive. haha. it was very funny how they seemed ready to fight to the death! oh well!
Just as an FYI, those of you who still frequent GW. Do not expect Spike to enforce his own rules. I was emailed privately by one of Mobi's "harpies" to help her get someone else booted from the site. I refused, and forwarded her emails to Spike telling him that she was violating HIS rules.
Guess who got sent to Disney? Me. In communicating with me Spike was abusive and stated his opinion that all of the members of his site were nothing better than bickering children and he considered members to be nothing more than a major irritation that provided him income.
Here's to a drop in his income.
I've been a paying member over there for years. I've never had any trouble with spike. What forums have all the problems? The ones I visit never have any problems like the ones some of you are describing. Odd.....

GW states the paying members have so many extras in benefits. I never got anymore than people who didn't even belong. This year, I kept my $15.
Maybe we should make his day brighter and email him a link to this thread?

I have received two e-mails from Spike regarding something I had asked about on one of the trades. I didn't realize that it was a nono. When I emailed back and explained that I didn't realize that it was something that shouldn't be asked for and that I saw others have the same question, I received a rude, rude comment back and I saw red. He really has no business replying to members the way he does. If we are polite, he should be. He doesn't help himself or his site by treating people the way he does. What does he get from it? Unless he is the kind who gets his jollies from treating people the way he does with no way to respond back to him.
It says so on the member sign up page. "Remember, you get extra benefits when you sign up as a paid member". I never saw anything special either.
I never talked to Spike, just told him when I made that "not so nice post" to someones thread, "that if he sent me to Disney for a vacation, he'd not see me as a paid member again". He took the whole thread off, never said one word to me. That was 2 yrs. ago.
Some day he'll get his comeuppance; you can't make a lifetime of treating people that way without suffering the consequences of it. Be it in our business or personal life, our actions will catch up with us.

Sometimes the threads get deleted before many people get to see them. Most of the time, the threads that members start are nothing derogatory or anything like that. More like "I really like Dave's Garden" or "Will trade books for seeds". When these threads are pulled and the poster gets a nasty message from Spike, is when most people get irritated. Or they get sent to Disney. It's as if Spike's manner just fans the flames. Usually his emails are derogatory and mean and can get personal, even when yours are not.
Now there are some members who ARE mean, they will gang up on a person and basically say they are stupid or try and irritate others just so they leave the forum, and often times these people are his spies. That is to say, they will tell him which threads to pull or say DG etc. He depends upon them to tell him about these threads or they just say they don't like them and he'll delete them.
Ludger, a breath of fresh air ~ I will try to sustain myself as this really is going no where positive. Thanks! No offense intended toward anyone. I'm just gonna pop out of this discussion...

Somebody in permanent rage and rudeness like Spike must have a very miserable life. I am sure that if he felt he is LOVED he would act totally different.
I will include him in my daily prayers and invite everybody to join me.
We belong to a wonderful site: Dave's Garden. Here we have so much love that we can spare some for Spike. Let us give him the chance to realize that life is wonderful but too short to waste it the way he is doing. This is not meant to be ironic.
I agree. We are to love our enemies and pray for them. Whew! Hard to do but we gotta try!
