"Spike" the circular idiot!

I was on Garden web and posted an email message,concerning a trade,to a GW member.In the message I mentioned the Brug forum at Dave's.My email was blocked and a message popped up saying Dave's Garden was not allowed to be mentioned on the GW site or in emails to it's members.I had to remove the reference to Dave's before the message would go through.
What is he afraid of?

Yes he is, I was banned a few days ago from posting because I asked to have my page removed and my membership revoked because of something that had happened with two other members, one got banned and the other left on her own. He said that I had to do that in writing and I deleted most of what I could on my own, although I am still a paid member, he did stop my membership, but my page is still there. I am so tired of that place, although, I have mentioned Dave's there a couple of times.

He stopped your membership? On what grounds?

This is all certainly not in the spirit of gardening!

The other two ladies that left were very nice people. I left because of what that group there did to them. One is a member here and the other is just a nice lady. They did not do anything, but if you disagree with some of those people they will report you. Several have left in the last few days, on their own. Some have registered here.

That's very unfortunate that that happened. Well, maybe the other woman will register here now too.

JT, it's been that way for almost 2 years, you can't mention DG. I love the term 'circular idiot' never heard it before!! too funny.

I'm still a member over there, but hardly ever use the site anymore.
Now that I know Spike "reads" everybody's email I doubt I will go back, and I know I will not renew my membership.

Gourd, I did not know you had to pay to be a member there. Did that just start? Don't you hate it when people want you banished if you dare disagree with them and they are constantly reporting people they do not like to the powers to be instead of just civilly ignoring them. It astonishes me that they are supposedly all grown up.

I doubt if Spike reads the mail, I am sure he has a program that picks up certain words and it kicks out a form letter. Like here. If you post certain words you get a "profanity deleted" message and a love note from the admin. Then again maybe I am wrong and someone reported me. LOL

That's why I quit there over a year ago. I would like to know how he can monitor our e-mails. Isn't that against the law??

That must be why I was asked the other day to stop posting on this particular thread by another member. No one was arguing-we were, in my opinion respectfully writing out our points of view. I love to hear other peoples points-you know? And it was not her that had the opposite opinion as me, it was another member. She said she was afraid someone would report us-I was thinking, what on earth is there to report? differing opinions? but that sort of sensitivity must stem from things like GW. That was such a strange thing to me. It is hard to express intonation in written format and maybe things come across more harshly than meant. I think it's usually a mis-communication, I mean with a group as large as this, we can't agree about everything! LOL All I could say was that respecting one another's opinions are what friendship is all about (Not to mention the USA's constitution)even if they are opposite. I don't get all bent when people don't agree with me! I am smart enough to know that I don't know it all!

I also love circular idiot. I was kicked out over two years ago because the rose forum got in a free for all over me buying roses at K-Mart. I didn't do anything wrong. I am glad because DG is much better and we are within reason allowed to do or say most anything.

HoniBee, why in God's green earth would anyone have a cow over you buying a rosebush (or 2 or 3...) at K-Mart???? If you wouldn't have bought it/them, they would have died. Is that better? Just to let people know, any time you use a forum's email system, like if you sent email to somebody here at DG through the forum, the admins have the ability to save and monitor the emails you send. I am not saying that the people here at DG do that, but on another forum that uses the DG software they do read the emails, so be careful when you use the forums to send emails, because they may be monitored.

I post over at GardenWeb a lot, and I find it a useful source of information, but I have seen threads in which posters were insulting and condescending to others who expressed a different point of view. Those unpleasant posters usually created an uproar, and subsequently those threads were eventually removed. The only time that I have gotten upset is at one particular GardenWeb forum, when I wanted to discuss the plant-related topic at hand, but others wanted to discuss politics, religion, and other non-gardening topics. One forum in particular was famous for that so I simply stopped visiting that forum even though there were a few really nice people there. There are forums, however, like the Plumeria Forum, where every one is sweet and supportive and helpful, and I'll probably continue to visit that forum and a few others.

I'm positive, I received an email from someone, not the person I sent my email to, that referred to the content of my email, so somebody had to have read it.

Isn't it possible Mary that the person you e-mailed might have said something? Most webmasters have much more to do than sit and read everyones e-mail.

Mary, as the webmaster at the 'place' you are talking about, I personally take offense at the implication you made in public. it's the same setup as here at DG, it's archived for you to be able to check back on. If you wondered, you should have written and asked. There was discussion months ago there about it being archived.

Mary, the email you are talking about was probably forwarded by the original recipient. Before you know it, your email could be in many peoples inboxes.

Kell, no you don't have to pay to go to GW, but I had belonged and scubscribed to that site for almost 4 years or more I think. I paid because I felt that it would help maintain it.. the information was and is great, but, they don't believe in live and let live. It's their way, or no way (kind of like tunnel vision).. You would think that they would appreciate the diversity and knowledge that each person has and brings to each gardening site.

Gardeners love to share, and GW has no concept of that when it comes to other gardening sites that they feel are their competition, they do not allow you to mention them. Heck (I believe), the more sites you belong to, the more knowledgeable you become, the more you have to share with with everybody else.

Mary, Since this seems to stem from an e-mail I sent you I want to make it clear that it was not taken from an e-mail that you sent from our site but from a concerned person that thought our site was being jeopardized by your actions.
In no way will I expose this person and lose their trust to prove a point but be very sure before you make accusations.
This matter certainly doesn't belong here at DG so if you have any questions please e-mail me.

I rarely go on the GW site anymore because og the "Harpies." It is very slow over there these days Some forums don't have new posts for weeks.

Mary is right. The emails that go through " that other place" can be monitored. The same old poo with the "Harpies" is going on over there and I am finally so disgusted with it I'm going to delete it from my favorites. I also got banned for mentioning DG.

Mobi, The "other" site that Mary is talking about is BGI. The mail is NOT monitored and the members are free to write whatever they want in an e-mail with no fear that they will be banned for mentioning another site.
No one has ever been banned for mentioning DG nor will they ever be.
I do not consider any of our members "Harpies" and all of our members get along very well so I have no idea what "poo" you are talking about.

Yep, Sorry for the miscommunication. I WAS talking about Garden Web not BGI. I apologize to snowhermit and everybody else. And if you don't know GW then you won't know the poo. I am glad you all get along at BGI, it makes things more fun.

I think many of us have either had a vacation to Disney thanks to Spike or at least received a warning letter when something not quite right(in Spikes eyes)was said on his site.
