'Selena' is one of those lovely pink upfacing Asiatics that makes you smile each time you visit the garden. She just keeps on blooming and blooming.

I was looking through the list of bulbs I got both in the trade and buy purchasing and 'Purple Reign' and 'Dawn Star' are two that I have. I'm looking forward to June even more now.

We were discussing my stand of 'Stones' here is the photo of the whole group this last June. I took babies off and planted them in several other places as well as in the nursery bed (31 baby bulbs in the nursery bed alone). They seem to be QUITE prolific!

Hey Llilyfan, that stand of 'Stones' is gorgeous. I can't wait for ours to multiply like that. I really like the companion plants too.

Thanks Ron, that was it's first bloom for me. Fall planted the bulbs and early June Wow.

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

Llilyfan, is the companion plant an allium, flowering garlic, or some other form of bulb I don't have, but "need"?

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

It is 'Drumstick Allium' been told it spreads like crazy. Egg shaped burgundy blossoms. I really likes it!! We'll have to 'talk'.

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

I can't wait to visit your gardens this spring Llilyfan! You have so many lilies and daylilies that we don't. Of course me 'n' my 'lil poachers shovel could fix that. :-)

You just come on with your lil poachers shovel Ron, no one will stop you cause I'll be at your place with my bigger poaching shovel!!

I sure hope my bulbs are big enough to bloom this year cause I just love that Purple Reign. I have Dancing Eyes but the color isn't near as intense.

Hijack!!!! My Little Grapette doesn't look anything like yours, I suppose it was another mislabeled pot. I think that is three that aren't what they are supposed to be.So disappointing.

Does anyone know the name of this lily? I ordered 'Lady Alice' and 2 of the bulbs were and this one isn't. I had the name at one time, but have long since forgotten. I know it might be a strain of Lady Alice, I do remember seeing one that was so like it as to be identical, but as I said forgot the name.

i have had a grand time reading this thread. of course it took me about 2 hours because i had to go off and search for some of the lilies on google, and check out all the other things folks mentioned. :)
i too am a lilium lover. my addiction started early on and then i had a co-op last spring here. folks ordered over 3000 bulbs. some of those of course were mine. :) i planted a lot of lily bulbs last spring and most of them did just fine, and blossomed beautifully. i went from having some stargazers and some mixed asiatics, to having some of them all!!!!! of course they still arn't enough!!! i put in a lot of mixed. and i'm having fun seeing what they are. now i plan on picking specific ones i like and adding them in here and there and everywhere!!!!

i get a catalogue from the lily garden. website here:
http://www.thelilygarden.com/
i have not ordered from them yet because i wanted to make sure that i was competent in growing them before i invested in some of there bulbs. imagine a whole catalogue of just lilies. yep, my dream book. i want one of these, and 3 of these, and and and......:)

i have lots of pictures of my lilies. i even grow them against my woodlands. they get great spring sunshine and once the leaves are out they get dappled sunlight and some up to 2 hours a day of direct light. i have some stargazers i planted 3 seasons ago and they keep coming back, but they haven't reproduced or gotten much larger. but the nice thing about plantin them there is that they open a bit later than those in sun or part sun and it extends the length of my lily show. i planted a lot of oriental mixed in the spring and they did fine and it was after the leaves had already started to sprout, so i'm hoping for even better results this year.
this picture is of 2 of my new tiger lilies. these need to be planted off by themselves, away from other lilies because they can carry a disease, i forget which one, that will travel by air to the others. so off in the corner, in the back yard they are.

here are some stargazers just planted this spring i have a group of 3 on either side of a climbing rose bush. i'm goin to change the rose bush because it only blooms once in june and i would like to have blossoms on it when the stargazers bloom too. there is another group just like this to the left. :)
i have noticed that stargazers differ in there coloring depending on the amount of sunlight they get. and they are all gorgeous.

ok here is a pick of my new l.a. lilium's planted spring 2003. they came late, but i think because of the spring planting time.

here is an oriental called 'kiss proof'. i got these from home depot when they were marked down after the blooms had passed. 3 bulbs per pot for $1.50. these were planted in fall 2002.

Oh Debi_z, Welcome to the Bulbs thread on Dave's Garden. As a Lily lover also, I'll happily share my addiction with you! Looking forward to reading your posts and seeing more of your wonderful lilies. You have found the place to be, because there are lots of us "lilyfolk" here.

Hi DebiZ, thanks for posting those beautiful pictures for us to enjoy on a blustery winter day. I fully understand the joy you get from looking at a catalog filled with only lily. I'm going to go browse your link right now. Later....

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

hi ladies, well it is nice to have you too, to share lilies with. i really like bulbs a lot. thanks to the many co-ops that bleek and dori, have done, i have accumulated quite a few other bulbs, than lilies too. but my favorite are still the lilies.
i'll share a few more of my pictures here with you. i had so much fun taking pictures this past year with the digital camera.
here is my asiatic orange. if someone has a name for it i would be obliged, but no fuss either, with or without a name i love this orange. as they multiply i hope to have a lot more of these.

this is not a lilium, but a hemerocallis, like the one on the front page of dutch gardens catalogue this year. they want $15 for it and i got it in one of bleek's co-ops for much less. this is one gorgeous daylily plant.

ok here is one of many pictures i took of 'muscadet'. these did beautifully in my front yard, sun until early afternoon. these are from the co-op i did. so they were planted in spring 2003. now if i can just remember how i set the camera to black out the background like this. ;)

Waaahhhh! I just got active on DG right before Christmas and I've come across so many great co-ops that I've missed. Now it seems like everyone has the plants they need. Do co-ops ever repeat?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

never fear pins, they repeat and then some do ones that overlap too. you'll be spending so much money on co-ops you'll be wondering where you are going to plant all the plants your going to get.
right ladies and gents?

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

I know that I am looking forward to receiving the catalog from Green Mountain Transplants. I suspect that we will be ordering at least a couple of the 72 cell trays of annuals just for containers and hanging baskets.
Meanwhile, an early blooming Asiatic 'Firecracker' to crackle our below freezing air here in Iowa:-)

And a very fragrant trumpet, one that makes you want to linger in that corner of the garden, is "Golden Temple.

Thumbnail by Iowaron
Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

A cross between an Oriental lily and a Trumpet lily, produced a classification of lilies known as "Orienpets". One of the more famous of these Orienpets is 'Leslie Woodriff'. It grows over 7 feet tall in our garden and last year had 62 flower heads.

A near white Asiatic lily is 'Snowstorm'.

I have been lurking ;this is just too much (slapping my hands) LOL

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Wow, Ron! That 'Leslie Woodriff' is awesome!!! Tell me more, paint us a picture.....what did you have around it and how many more of them do you have??? How many are you bringing to the RU? ha ha, LOL :)

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

MMMMMMmmmmm Love that Leslie Woodriff! Is it as fragrant as it is beautiful?;)(She asks as she prepares her favorite shovel for the perfect moonlit night.)

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh you guys! :-)

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

I see now that I don't want to be as specific in noting planting locations as our dear and trusting friend Llilyfan. :-) Surprisingly Anahi, Leslie Woodriff has very little fragrance. However it is planted in the same general area as 'Golden Temple', and that one is extremely fragrant. The companion plants around this Leslie Woodriff are Purple Cone Flowers, White Garden Phlox, a bushel basket sized yellow garden mum, and of course the rose moss ground cover. This is the third year for this single bulb to grow and bloom, and each year the plant gets taller, the stem stronger, and the bud count higher. So far it has not divided underground and sent up more shoots. The Lily Garden lists 'Leslie Woodriff' for $10.00 in their current catalog.

Okay, I've been lost in The Lily Garden website for the last half hour or so. Nice website. I want many! Luckily my printer isn't working so I can't print out an order form. And their phones are answered only certain hours. Maybe that will keep me from spending way to much!

All I can say is Gaudy, Gaudy, Gaudy... lol Oh, where to plant more?

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Ron, WHY do you keep doing this to me? I order and think I have gotten enough for this year and then YOU have to post a picture like that!

Since your bulb is only sending up one stalk I guess I'd better beat anahi to your garden this spring.

OH btw, I've decided to remove the SPECIFIC directions so you'll have to hunt a little harder when you come poaching!!Heading to my journal now.LOL

Johnston, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm sorry my dear Llilyfan, but 'twas YOU that awakened this monster, encouraged, teased and tantalized, even started this thread:-)

I wouldn't be in too big of a rush to get to changing your journals, as I'm almost sure that Anahi has printed every page in large type, so we can see the directions under the light of the moon.

Meanwhile, until the snow melts and Spring Returns, here's a lovely, and often fragrant, 'Tom Ponce' Strain lily
