dear ron, thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!! i have a
huge smile on my face. i too am going to send this to a friend or two. :-) simply marvelous. oh maybe with us all sending this to folks, you'll get it back in your mailbox one day. wouldn't that be something.
the only thing you need is a vase with a lily in it, then you wouldn't be hijacking the thread. lol ;-) debi z
Lily Lovers Look here!
WHO has a GMT catalog? Looking innocent here! Yes Yes Yes! First it's horses and now snowmen hijackers LOL Love it!
I don't know what the lily is, but I do know that I am so proud of you that I am about to burst Anahi. Llilyfan, I think we did good with this one, wha'cha think?
Oh Debi_z, I wish I had of thought about adding a silk lily in a vase, that would have been fun. Maybe next big snow granddaughter and I will do something more creative:-)
So glad y'all liked the Zone 5a entertainment, now if that darned Green Mountain Transplants catalog would come ...
Ron
Yes Ron I think we did VERY good! Ted and I really enjoyed the zone 5 entertainment also.
anahi, great photo no matter what the name!
How beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!
OMG-I just noticed- Did Wanda's Garden Angel wander all the way down from Cedar Rapids to my garden? Hmmmm :-)
Ron
iowaron, you have a beautiful garden. your combination of flowers, present and spent, the allium, is striking.
last year was my first year with the trumpets. they were gorgeous and smelled so very good too. i see yours are all standing tall. mine were flopped over. still looked gorgeous though. do you stake yours? also, i've got to ask......what is this about wanda's garden angel?
debi z
***on the label when i purchased the lilies they were stargazers. what a treat to find out i had others. some i'm still i.d.ing (word?) *****
debi_z, Thanks for the kind words about our lilies. You have a beautiful mixed planting in your picture also. One of the many things I like about yours is that it is right out along the curb where it can be enjoyed by all who pass by. We live in the country, so unless folks come to visit, our gardens are viewed at a glance from the road. No, fortunately, I've not had to stake any of our lilies. I certainly would if necessary, but so far, so good.
The comment about Wanda's gardening angel came from 5 or 6 posts near the end of this thread: http://davesgarden.com/t/414313/#new
We have fun teasing each other about "poaching" each other's flowers in the light of the moon. It's too bad when people really do have their property stolen out of their gardens though.

well ron, all who pass by in cars are 4 people. i live at the end of the street. :) but the increase in walkers past my house in warmer weather has greatly increased over time. :)
To avoid having your garden angel purloined, THIS is what you need: 300 pounds of concrete serenity. I call her Hernia, because that's what I almost got moving her; I decided to get a cement base for her and while moving her up onto the base (she sits on a slope) she started tipping forward, and me backwards. All I could think of is what the newspaper would say when I was found spread-eagled on the ground, crushed by the angel. A friend or two would probably have told them they were surprised it hadn't happened sooner.
Don
beautiful statue but 'Hernia'? you just GOTTA find a better name than that!! How 'bout 'Hernialea' or 'Herniel'? lol
zone you crack me up. she is gorgeous and i can just picture that whole senario. i usually get struck funny when i'm in those situations and i'm laughing like a hyena while i'm amidst it. :) thanks debi z
zonedenial, you made my day! What a visual!!
Hey Don, are you going to make it to Round-Up on May 1st? We'll all sure be glad to meet the man who has such a close relationship with an Angel :-)
Ron
Ron, well I could say an angel once had a real crush on me! I think Liz and I will be in Philadelphia the weekend of the roundup, but if not this year, hopefully will make it next year: TLC already promised to mix up a batch o' margaritas if I come, and that's inducement enough for me.
Don
If your plans change, come on down, otherwise I'll have to give you the second hand report on the margaritas, and you know that's never as good as the "hands on" assessment. :-)
Ron
I do like a good margarita now and then; we burned out two blenders in about three years at our parties making margaritas, which is kind of embarrassing when oily smoke starts drifting through the crowd and people start cheering 'cause we did it again! We finally bought a Kitchenaid blender with about a half-horsepower motor and blades that would cut barbed wire. Of course now the lights dim every time we fire up the blender, but it kind of adds to the party atmosphere.
Don
R U listening to this TLC? :-)
I'm hiding behind a tree :)
Well Don, I too really enjoyed the visual entertainment I got when I read your post. Thanks for the chuckle.
TLC: hiding behind the tree, Stay Put! cause I'm tempted by those Margaritas and I havent imbibed in 15 years. I'll need someone to pick me up when I crash behind the trunk!
zonedenial, you sound like such a hoot! The visuals I get when reading your posts are priceless! Sure wish you and Liz could make it to the RU. Maybe next year! :) Bev_ Or perhaps this Fall in Des Moines for a fall RU....Whatcha think Iowaron? :) Bev
Anahi,
We'll make it sometime, somewhere. Since it's cold, cloudy, and windy out today, how about another story? I also this winter started posting on Hallson's Garden, and this is a link to our tale involving a squirrel, a pair of fireplace gloves, and the ex-girlfriend of a dynamite salesman.

ROTFLOL - a picture is worth a thousand words - Liz, I think you missed an opportunity here!!
ROTFLMAO LOL LOL :) :) :) no wonder that squirrel was stunned in the middle of the living room....he had never seen a giant naked gardener!!!!!! LOL ;)
ron you can come to any round up you want to in the northeast too. lol
zonedenial, loved the story and the picture at the end...although I would rather have seen the picture with the snow and gloves...TeeHee! Thats okay, I have a very good imagination and the mental image was a real hoot! :) Bev

A Special Announcement is to be posted here!
For years, lily hybridizers all over the world have been striving to produce that elusive dream, a True Blue Lily!
Well my friends, put down your dabbers and tweezers, because thanks to that "Wayne County Wonder" Llilyfan, (aka 009) She has done it! I have photographic evidence that I humbly submit below. This evidence was received from Llilyfan just yesterday, so consider this a "hot off the press News Flash". We bow to your many talents Llilyfan, now we share your latest, "The Elusive Blue Lily" with the rest of the world.
Your Obedient Servant,
Iowaron
And here I thought as the 'creator' of the "Elusive Blue Lily" I was the one to take the bow! LOL Hope y'all enjoy the one of a kind lily bloom.

Hi Kooger,
I'd wait at least 2 or 3 years before disturbing what Mother Nature is working on here. I'd let a nice stand develop, then after I see a decline in bud count or stem heartiness, that's when I'd divide. If you wait, you will have stronger, larger and more viable bulbs, both to share and to remain in your garden.
Iowaron
Thanks Ron, as soon as I saw those babies, I thot of you, hoping you'd have some advice for me!! Maybe I'll be able to share in a few years since very few people seem to have this one. :)
Yep, Marco Polo is a beauty, and Orientals don't divide as prolific in my garden as do Asiatics. The fact that your Marco Polo is dividing is a sign that it likes the growing climate and soil that you are providing, so I wouldn't be eager to disrupt that for a while. Don't it feel good to know that you are doing something right? :-)
Ron
PS See ya at Round Up
Oh kooger that is great!
This is the third year for my Casa Blanca and for the first time it too has babies! However my Hot Lips has shrunk down to just 2 stems, last year it had about 4 stems. I also have seen no sign at all of my sweet little Scarlet Turk's Caps. I surely do hope they are just late to emerge.
Just 13 days to round-up!
Doesn't take a lot to excite us lily people, does it! One other bulb also started sending up a shoot but not yet for the third. But I'm happy as can be seeing the babies coming!! :D
Our 'Leslie Woodriff' is 11 inches tall today and standing mighty proud. Now if I can just keep the deer away a while longer. The herd broke down the electric fence last night and munched their way through over half our lilies. We had some 8-10 inch 'Northern Beauty' and several large trumpets on their menu last night. After reconstructing the fence I followed Llilyfan's advise and sprayed egg water over the remaining lilies in hopes of saving those.
Oh Ron, my heart is hurting for you. I hope the egg water helps curb their appetites. They broke through that fence? and it was electric on top of it? OMGoodness. Have you always had trouble with deer? Rabbits have been my greatest garden challenge other than the neighbors cats!
