Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Pretty neat aint it mingsmimi?!! I planted some lupines last year and all they did was sit there with only about 3" leaves that shot out of the ground...but they stayed green all winter! and there are more of them this spring so with fingers crossed I'm hoping they bloom this year!

Mollybee! you are zone 7..I need to tell my sister what to grow in Georgia She just got a house there and wants info. i'll tell her that lupine grow there too! YEAH!

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

mings I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they may not grow for her. I love lupines!!! They grow willd everywhere where I grew up in Maine. I've tried growing them here several times but they don't like the heat and die in my zone 7.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Well all I can say is that I still have some from last year, and they have gotton bigger and there are tons more of them now too! My sister lives in zone 7 also and she has grown them for years without any trouble. Maybe it was something else, besides the heat? I still think they are worth a try, even the foilage is pretty and well worth the growing.
Mingsmimi, go ahead and tell your sister to at least "try" them. I mean afterall it wouldn't hurt to try would it?

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

okay! I'll tell her! I love lupine! I hope to get some this year to grow seems like they are starting off really well so far!

Mingsmimi: Lupine does very well here. I have a blue Russells that is over four feet tall! Last year I purchased some seeds from Thompson and Morgan called "Cherry Mello". The flower is read and the stem has a dark red hue. The only down side to the lupines is that the slugs absolutely love them!

As to what thrills me that I have grown from seed...how could I choose. It has become an issue for me to start all my own plants, and for the most part, everything I have has come from seed. I have to say that the annual poppies are always a pleasure, but so are so many of the perennial flowers.

I have to say that I enjoy the veggies I can eat from the garden. In warmer climes these little beauties can be taken for granted, but in my growing climate, a few zucchini are a gift from God! Fresh leeks, crisp lettuce, sweet cabbage, sugar snap peas...that's a thrill!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

weez..I have seen those Russells in magazines adn catalogs, always wondered about how they would do around here. maybe i will give them a try. I don;t know what kind of lupine I have growing from seed...My neighbor lady , her little son that is 4 put them in a paper cup last year and they grew! so, we shall see!

Nothing thrills me more than see veggies come alive!! I still can't believe I could have grown such huge cabbages, brocolli, beans etc. It really is the most satisfying experience and you get to eat them!! Now to try them in this country :-) I love lupines and foxgloves and when I get round to it will have a go!!

I was just strolling about the garedns. spying on things. What a difference a Springshower and 24 hours makes!
