Garden Angels

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you to everyone joining in our efforts as a TEAM to help others that need subscription assistance. :-)

I'm gonna take this an opportunity to challenge my fellow DGer's from the state of GEORGIA to step up and match my $2.00 donation or UP it... I challenge other states to do the same. :-)

Hey this is a FUND DRIVE FOR GARDEN ANGELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:-)))) God Bless

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

bamasharon - I'll double your $6.50 and up it $2 to a round $15. Sounds like a good number!

DG (or more importantly, the PEOPLE of DG) helped me go from nothing to a garden that people actually comment on when they jog or walk by. I did a little bit of the digging *grin* - but, seriously, this is where I have gotten many ideas, inspirations, trades, gifts, co-ops. Putting the check in the mail today.

A lot of Ursula's words hit home - this is the type of place where people need to feel welcomed, and if the cost of a pizza can give someone the same enrichment I received this year, I'm delighted to be able to do so.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

golddog, sbarr, Annabellegabby and everybody that read my testimony, a big THANK YOU.

Thank you, because you understood the essence of my message: I do not want anybody to say/think "poor Ursula". What I intended to say (and succeeded expressing!) is:

1. the great difference you can make in somebody's life on treating him/her as an equal, and

2. give them the chance to "be an equal" among you/us with a small contribution.

DGardeners must be among the finest people in the world!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Awesome sbarr, moonlighting, golddog, bamasharon, WillowWasp, and anyone else that's contributing...THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

We love ya Ursula :-)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Don't forget, if you want to sponsor a certain person, make sure you say so. If not, it will go into the 'general fund' for whomever needs it. Any help is good help!!! Someone has paid mine twice and I have only returned the favor once so I am in the hole! LOL

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Ursula, thank you so much for your post. Annabellagabby and I had been pounding our heads to find something to say that would inspire folks to get involved..you did it all with your post..

And I want you to know that, you are actully the originator of this drive...had you not posted to send $1.00 for the seeds I wouldn't have known about the Fund and looked for it...so again I say thanks to you for your contribution .......

I donated $5.00 a couple of weeks ago for me and Moonlighting to cover Ursulas request. Since I know who benifits from this and how it works, I am going to spring for a complete membership....so I will match the $15.00.
I thank all of you for joining us in the effort to raise more funds so all of us can benifit....we may not need the money for our own renewals...but we have many of our overseas parterners that we could lose if it wasn't for this wonderful Fund.......as well as our in state members that need the extra boost..

I for one don't want to lose anyone because they don't have the money to pay the subscription cost...so many of our elderly gardeners live on Fixed encomes and can't spend the extra cash on a luxury....
The luxury we get from them is there knowledge on their post and photos..and their memory of old varities we don't see anymore..I give a special thanks to them for giving us the benifit of their knowledge............Thanks again to all... :o)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ursula, thank you for putting a face to yourself. I'm so glad you shared your story.

You're so right, WillowWasp - To paraphrase a quote I once heard:

Every time we lose an old gardener, it's like a library burning to the ground.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow, you guys are putting chills on me. Well said my friend WillowWasp (Dee) and Ursula.

Shall we make a forum for the Angel Garden Fundraising Drive WillowWasp? We can link it back to this one so they'll know the details as far as where to send addy and so forth. Whatcha think? Email me.

Julieanne aka ABG

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I prefer to subscribe someone on my own. Someone has subscribed me twice, and I have subscribed either 3 or 4, I can't remember for sure. I know of three, and I thought there was another one, but can't remember who. I also sent someone a cookbook that couldn't afford one at the time.

I know that this is the time of year when most subscriptions come due again, and I think it's great that everyone is pooling money to help, but I think I'd like to continue on doing it the way I am. So, please don't think that I'm not helping because I'm not posting that I'm doing the poker thing. I am helping with subscriptions, but in my own way. :)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Awwwwww Joan, not to worry, we arent judging anyone, you do as you wish. I think what youre doing and the way youre doing it is great. Im sure everyone who you've helped is greatly appreciated you for it.

God bless you for helping JoanJ.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Thats fine JoanJ, you are still participating in the Garden Angel Fund ...anyone who wants to subscribe someone particular is great....

And to add this is purly voluntary and no one is judged on what or how much they contibute....we are just having a little fun in the process......

This is just to make folks aware of the program and to get more funds generated so we can help more people...as you said lots of membership will be coming due soon. More reason for Dave's to have the extra cash on hand to help when its need most.....

I'm sure through the year others will add more or subscribe who they wish, and I hope they continue to do so, I'm sure I will continue to help when I can.....

Bottom line is we are helping our friends, and friends we haven't made yet by giving them something they will charish, our Welcome, come sit in my garden and make it yours too..to many thats more than enough......
:o)

This is a very special idea.

I am not able to donate
funds at this time... unless my angel notices I am here.
I am a single parent, not working.

Raincheck.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I just wanted to thank Ursula again. If she hadn't mentioned this program with her offer of free seeds I wouldn't have known about it. I also think that it is great that those who can give something (the amount doesn't matter) do what they can and those who can't at this time don't blame themselves. (There are all sorts of ways to give: plants, seeds, experience, laughter, support, encouragement, etc.) The whole point of this program is to allow people to enjoy being on DG so please don't feel guilty if you can't give now or need help from the Garden Angel program to subscribe - guilt undermines the purpose of the program! I am on a limited income so I feel very fortunate that at this time I had a little extra to give. I know what it is like to be on the receiving end too so I am glad to be able to give back a little of what I have received. It all balances out in the end.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

You know it does balance out in the end..Noh2o.
There was a time several years ago, very dark days.....no boot to put it in and no window either......
My husband was going through several surgerys, my son at that time 16, was in a serious car accident. If it wasn't for friends and family tieing me to a post so I wouldn't fall down I wouldn't have made it....
So many helped us and gave me an outlet to keep my spirits up, ... So glad for what I had in my family and friends but, wish there was a Dave's then, It would have lightened the load on those around me..
But any thing given is appreciated no matter how small, a bunch of little can make great big....LOL

Its still given from the heart and thats what counts........

Yall are all some of the greatest people I have meet, in your giving of plants, information, time and now doing this for others less fortunate than us...........
Hats off to ya and Best Wishes
Dee :o)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Can't think of a nicer gift, a gift that keeps on giving is the best! I haven't done as much as I should for those less fortunate, but I plan to change that. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention again.

Shalimar, FL(Zone 8a)

Chills! Nice thread. Thanks everyone! I didn't know. Jen

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes, we all have our hard times and we need uplifting, and I know it's helped me alot. This site has so much to offer and I cant imagine anyone missing out on the many opportunities it has, whether it be friendship, prayer group, exchanging ideas, plants, seeds, the list goes on. I am so happy to have found Dave's Garden and want everyone who needs help to have the great opportunity it offers.

My heart is open to helping others. Hopefully this Fund raising effort will bless many people. I know it will and already has. Thank you and My hat is also tipped to all of Dave's Garden members. :-) And...soon to be members!!

God Bless

Ursula, thank you for your post. I had already decided to make a donation to the Angel Fund but your story touched me deeply and reminds us that the smiles we "see" here in D.G. often do not tell the whole story.

I have been where you are today and want you to know my thoughts will be with you. Please email me if you ever need to talk.

It is nice to see a group of people come together to lend a hand to people who, for the most part, they dont even know. You will all be blessed.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I was busy mulching & missed out on this thread. We give to charities all the time & never know if the $$ will be received by the person who needs it. Lord knows I'm not rich, but I'd like others to find enjoy the friendly Dave's Garden.I would be happy to sponsor 2 gardeners. The check is in the mail.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Way to go, Wanda!!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my goodness Wanda, thats wonderful...thank you so much for joining us in this wonderful fund........
Dee

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

Hasn't the Garden Angel fund been in existence for a couple of years?

If I remember correctly, when Dave's went from free to paid, there were alot of people stepping up to pay for those who couldn't afford to join and we ended up with a surplus, and thus Garden Angels?

Just wondering if this is something new, or a continuation of a program that was already in place.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

IndaShade, It is just a continuation of the same program, I wasn't aware it existed and when Ursula requested the $1.oo for her seeds I didn't know where to send it....Dave e-mailed me the Addy and others started to send money to.....

So many of us are new and don't know it's here or what its for, so not only are we giving to the fund to raise more cash we are looking for gardeners that need help....Here and out of the US...........

And meanwhile we have made a "fund drive" out of it and have had alot of response from all the wonderful folks here at Dave's....I have learned more about some of the people here. Like where they're at in there lives and how important this site is to them.... :o)
Dee

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi WillowWasp (Dee)...been doing some Doc's appointments today. Just getting to the forum to check and see how the
"Garden Angels Fund Drive" is going!!!!

Ok everyone, I got my seeds from Ursula today for the $1.00 donation for this fund. Woooo hooooooooo

I donated $2.00 and want to challenge all who can match my donation or make it better :-)....It's such a great cause and we should all know that it's going to help those who can't renew their subscription at the end of this year and that's nearer than we realize.

Let's tell our DG friends about this thread and spread the Love to those who need our help. We promise, you'll be blessed for helping :-)

A special thanks to all of you who've contributed in this wonderful cause :-)

God Bless

Julieanne aka ABG

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone :-)
It's been a few days since I have seen anyone in this thread...but it's encouraging to see that 850 something people have viewed it. That makes me feel like these are people who are now aware at least of the "Garden Angel" fund drive. Which is a good thing :-) This makes the effort even more of a challenge to get the word out and spread.

I pray that any of you out there that will, to donate $1, $2, or whatever your heart leads you for this cause. You will be blessed. Thanks Julieanne aka Annabellegabby

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I think a good idea would be for the round ups to have a silent auction for one of the door prizes , with the money to go to the Angel Fund. It would be fun and for a very good cause.Lou

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Cool...thats a great idea dispatcher!!!!!!! Thank you maybe they'll see this post...

Tell all your friends about this thread. Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

Bless you

Julieanne aka annabellegabby

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I think what y'all are doing is great.I have been following it,but haven't posted.I subscribe the same international folks every year,so although I'm not sending actual cash,I do participate.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks so much Melody for telling us about what your doing. Our aim is to make folks aware of this program and to get as much response as we can. And folks like you and all the others that are responding are making that happen.
I know there are many out there that are helping others already and haven't posted here. We thank them too.

But one thing we haven't mentioned enough is, don't forget to use it to.....

If any of you out there know of someone here or overseas that could benifit from this, then please Contact Dave or Trish and give them that information...... :o)
Dee

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

My money is in the mailbox along with the 32 cents postage due from yesterday's mail! Too bad the post office does not reimburse people when they put too much postage on an envelope! LOL.

Update for you interested:

I have $14 in the Garden Angel fund and have already one name that needs an angel. As soon as the next dollar comes in, he will be subscribed.

Dave

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Dave for the update.....today is pay day and Mine is in the mail today......... :o)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Dave for the update...this is definetely an awakening for me and hopefully to all who want to participate, that the need is there. We need donations, and I pray everyone will donate...Put it in the mail today, we will be depleted of funds after this. :-(...

If everyone mailed in a donation of $1 or $2.00, this should help tremendously with all the members at Dave's Garden. Im sure that someone will be greatly appreciated for it.

Thank you everyone who have and plan on donating for this wonderful cause and

The GARDEN ANGEL FUND DRIVE!!!! :-)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)
