Eco,
Here is a pic of my Datura Wrightii, a bush type that only flowers at night, with flowers 8"-10" long and sometimes as much as 7" across. They are absolutely beautiful and and smell wonderful. They set seed pods that are spiney and are a perennial here in Oklahoma. We love them! Here is a pic at dusk, right before they opened.
Thanks brinda, we've definitely decided it's datura. Spikey seed pods, fuzzy leaves and all. :)
This is the same kind of Datura I spotted at the Quick Stop a week or so ago....... We drove by there the other night and they do seem to glow in the Moonlight......they are very pretty and I plan to plant a mass of them next year...Yours are beautiful Brinda......... :o)
Ok,I am going to jump right on this train, even though I am a newbie. This is my first year growing the Brugs and I love them as much as you guys do. I live in Olathe,Kansas and am in zone 6. Can anyone tell me the proper way and time to dig my Brugs up and bring them in for overwintering? Also, how do you bring the whole plant inside or do you just take cuttings? My plants are huge! Nice to meet you all!
Root???
Didn't you mention the varigated Datura? Any new news on this beauty??? I'm ready to see it and can't wait to have one.
Welcome, MaryElizabeth
You'll have to come to the Iowa Round-ups (get togethers)
MaryE,welcome to KCDGers!LOL!Scary you are closer then XVTracy!I am heading there tomorrow.
You have mail!
and it looks like a brug!
Welcome Mary Elizabeth. I am hoping Root answered your questions. If you have a camera we would love to see a pic or 2 of your big brugs! Glad you have joined us!
Hopin Mary gets in touch, plannin to get out there in the afternoon.
Kell, that was my first thought, looking at the tendrils from the porch.
Did you email her thru Dave's?
I finally figured out how to get back to this thread! You can sure tell that I am new to DG's. I would like to know how and when to bring my Brugs in for the winter. Do you cut them down and save some of the branches to re-root? It will kill me to have to cut them down after nursing them through the winter. LOL Thank you all for the welcome. I received Root's e-mail and wrote him back.
I'm sure he will tell you how to take care of your brugs when you talk. Root is a very helpful guy.
MaryE,Just talked to XvTracy,we are going to have a little get together in a month or less, who knows for sure, please get in touch with her,see if you are close by,should be fun, nothing fancy, just yakking plants!
She has my copy of Monikas book, you are also welcome to borrow it,it is very helpful. They are not too hard to overwinter,I am not even close to digging mine,I better see some more blooms!
I am Emailing you right now with my phone No.
Root,
I called and left a message on your answering machine today. Give me a call when you get a chance. Thanks everyone for your warm welcome!
Mary,Thanks for bringing this to my attention,my machine was unplugged,LOL!just got your message, will try to call you after work today!
Root,
So where is the get together in one month?
Are we all invited? Or is it an exclusive KC thing? LOL
I'd love to visit with you all, but you know me and driving. That is just too far to have to sit. It would take a fork lift to get me out of the car/truck by the time I got there. I know you will all have a great time. Remember..........pictures please!!
Come on Shirley,we will all just gather around your truck and BS.you don't even have to get out.
Gosh ~ would love to come and would if I didn't already have a commitment. Am doing an Indian Dinner that week-end. So will have to pass this time.:(
TLC,this is just going to be a warm up,will have one in the spring also, hope you will plan on it.
Please let me know the date as early as possible ~ that way I will have a better chance of making it. I generally
plan out my travel schedule 6-9 months ahead of time.
Are you all going to come up to an Iowa Roundup next year? Talk about it when you get together. I'm sure everyone would love to meet your new friends.
Hey if I am coming to KC they BETTER come to Iowa! LOL
Oh I'm sure I will pass around some tales of the Iowa round up!!!
And it has PODS!!!!!!!Be sure to save seeds,we will trade in a month or so.

Will do Brinda,,,,,,,Jr????
Ahelms: Please do save seeds from that one in the photo. I would like a few too. They are lovely.
Root....
What is up with that bud? Are all the blooms like that? Please post of pic of it open. Pretty cool.
I was asking ahelms about Jr (Earnhardt), since she/he is from Kannapolis. (We're big Nascar fans here)
I'll save seeds for you Bob , Brinda and Debby and Burgie if you want some. Brinda, I don't know Jr as well as I did his Dad. We have a monument of his Dad here in Kannapolis and the Dale Earnhardt Enterprizes is about ten miles up the road from me and we have Dale Earnhardt Blvd that goes thru town. Many years ago Dale Sr raced on a dirt track where my hubby used to work on one of the cars.I'm not a race fan. It's too nerve racking for me. LOL
Ahelms...
Thanks for the info and thanks so much for saving and sharing your seeds.
Dale Sr. was definately the man!!! We are huge Earnhardt fans in this house. I can only imagine the heartache felt in your hometown. Dale Jr is so much like his dad now. We just love him!
