hey Bob, is that a grasshopper on the 2nd photo. if it is, get rid of it or nothing will be left of the leaves on ur plants. i see a couple here lately. since then, i've seen most of the leaves on my plants are being eaten away. just a friendly warning.

are those triple yellow?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey MaVie! How are you?? I think it's a praying mantis and katydid??

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

It's a Katydid.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

am ok Chele :). must be my eyes. i know the praying manthis, but the other one sure look like a grasshopper to me LOL! actually i have not seen a katydid yet.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

He sure makes a loud popping and clicking noise when I grab him,is it a Cycada?

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

YES, indeed!! They make quite a bit of noise. Sounds like an invading army of Cycadas droning out their enemies!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I can hear them out back right now!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Bob, Would you please send me some of the yellow Dat seeds if you have any extras.PLMK

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

root you know better then to offer me an unrelated spot to post----I have adult A.D.D.lol-----my dats are doing OTHING--well ok I have a few blooms. NEXT year Im planting them in their own beds so I can neglect them to their hearts content as it stands now--I can either ignore the brugs to bloom the dats or force feed the dats into a coma to encourage the brugs.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

That blue is absolutely gorgeous! I didn't know that Daturas bloomed in such a pretty blue, too...

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Ahelms, will be fall before they are good and ripe,I cut one open yesterday,it had good formation, still real white,be sure to remind me,I will probably toss up a thread, when I joined Daves,it was because I had 5gl of double purples to get rid of,would you believe I gave them all away!ALL!So now I will be looking for doubles this fall!Lol!could have kept one seed,I hope I have one stray that is forming a bloom, fingers crossed.
Morph,I agree, this one is nice, will keep an eye on it,and let it set seed.
Plays,I started this thread for nuts like you and me!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Bob, that'll be great. All I have is the white. I purchased one this year that was supposed to be purple but it bloomed white also. I paid a lady on Ebay (Canada) $46.00 for several different colors of Dat seeds and never received them. She claims she mailed them but who know? I had asked her to insure them at my expense but she ignored me.LOL Better luck next time.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Root! I can see if I still have some triple purple seeds left and send them to you & ahelms if you'd like. I've one about to bloom, so hopefully I'll get some more seeds from this year, too :)

They don't all germinate and they required tons of patience before they sprouted. I finally used damp paper towel in a baggie with the seeds so I'd know which one were going to germinate. That saved me some time and helped with waiting the month or so before activity popped up from the dirt! Also, I bought a seed warming mat just for these guys! They were under light, but the constant warmth seemed to help.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Morph, that is so sweet of you. Thank you so much.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Bob, I'll have the double purple seed for you in the Fall.
Got lots of prickly pods on my dat.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

alhelms, just send me your snail mail :)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Shoot seed,I'll square you away,LOL!!!Don't want to count my chickens before they hatch,I'm still deadheading for more blooms.sounds like we should have a good seedswap in fall,I have a double?cream from Brugie that is budding.

This guy must have heard about the one that got away last night, from his little brother.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

MVR,that is a sweetie!I have 2 going so I hope to get seeds.
Morph mine were slow too, they came all at once, after what seemed like months of waiting,LOL!We all know how the winter doldrums drag on,when you are misting soil!
I hope to see others come up here,I still have all stages, even a few seeds just popped,so who knows,I may keep some over.I don't think I will start them so early this year.
TLC,did you end up with any double yellows? Are your purples blooming?
Also I will be looking for some wild forms, from all areas,MVR,didn't you say you thought you had a wild form come up?
Root

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks to Brugie, she gave me those Dat. alba.

yes, there are wild forms of Dats here. they are super spiny... on all parts of the plant including the flower and leaves. i saved some seeds cuz Tonny wanted them too, there is plenty to pass around. here is the closeup of the flower and plant...

Another Dat lover here. Start off with dbl. purple, they are doing really well for me this year. I should have tons of seeds if all goes well.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That little yellow one is really cute, but I'd never be able to keep up with the seed pods and would have a mess if they burst in the flower bed. Darn, it sure is cute tho.

Deb, my Dbl. purple, yellow, and white have done better this year than last. They just don't get enough light in that place I call my jungle. Pretty bloom.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Brugie: Mine are doing much better than last year. I didn't get that many seeds last year, so far I think I will be over ran with seeds this year. Of course I got tons from the meteloides white last year, they always over produce. Tried to post a pic. of my triple yellow a minute ago and it wouldn't go thru. Have to get ready for bed. maybe tomorrow can post a pic.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm a Dat lover too and have the double purple and single white.......Does anyone have seed of the double white and the yellow? Didn't know they doubled in those colors....LMK if anyone has seeds.........would love to trade.. :o)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Root, Ilove that first photo you sent. On my monitor the foliage is a steel blue. Anyway next year I am going to grow DATS. I want some of the triples they are so pretty, especially the purple and yellow. I will remind you later to see if you have any seeds to spare. Donna

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Donna, the first picture, the leaf is a castor bean,in the shade, just the way it reflected,if you want Dats,I will fix you up when the time comes to get seeds out!
Willowwasp.I'm sure we can take care of you too,I am waiting till fall, before planning any seed swaps, too late to get any going this year, hit Watch this thread at the top,I will make sure to pull this thread up,when I have mine ready.
Debby,That is one gorgeous Double!!!!!!
MVR,I gotta try the little yellows you have!!I have never seen them.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks root I'll be waiting.......

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

This triple yellow pod says "Thumbs up",will let this one go,it was behind a leaf so I did not get it deadheading.
