It's that time again - contests!

I've got a reasonably good camera but I'm a terrible photographer. I've got plenty of beautiful plants and I live in a stunning part of the world (if you like green), I just simply can't take a good photo for toffee! I either need a catagory for idiot photographers with shakey hands or will just have to be a voter instead of a participant *G*

Baa, sounds like you need to get yourself a tripod, that way you'd keep it steady and could just sit there and wait for the perfect shot :)

Tripod is a very good idea Baa. You should give it a try before you give into not being able to take a good pic.

Thanks for the thoughts Flowox and Molly, much appreciated! I'm not sure a tripod would help much, a lot of the plants I photograph are tiny and on the floor or (being in a coastal area) blown about by the breezes, perhaps if I shook in the opposite direction I'd get something half decent ;) A tripod would be a bane to carry on a 5+ mile trek across heathland and forest too.

We used cameras a lot in our art classes at school, I wasn't any good back then either but I could claim artistic license *G*

But now you can "fix up" your photos on your puter.

Baa, I will be sitting on the sidelines for this one too. I shake, plus I have a not-very-good camera :( But this way I can be objective! (at least I will try) Hey, if a member wins with a photo from my garden, does that count? LOL

tc I meant there's only a category for butterflies - no birds, bugs or bees still within BBBB, unless we're sposed to enter birds under butterflies LOL

Oh, I see what ya mean now Dave! I misunderstood what ya meant. You're sayin that there is just the one whole "BBBB" category instead of 4 seperate categories, one for each "B", correct?

I've just been puttin all my "B" entries into the one "BBBB" category. I guess all can tell by the individual foto if it's a bird, butterfly, bee, or bug.

I would hope so Tc! I mean I am no expert, but I think I can tell the difference in a bird and a butterfly LOL
Keep posting them pics! I can't wait to see them all.

Yes, I'll put other categories in. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

When do photos have to be in by for the contest?
I just joined on 8/19/03 and don't think I saw the date on this post or under Extras-Contest 2003.
What date is the voting and decision of winners made?

Welcome Picturelady! By the sounds of your name I can tell we will be enjoying lots from your garden! In first post Dave said
"We'll let the contest entries add up until October 31st, at which time the entries will close and judging will begin."

So we all have time to take lots more!

Dave, how about some guidelines or rules on the 2003 contest page? i doubt if everyone is aware this thread exist.

I have heard some members say they have good photos of something that doesn't have a category. Could others be added, or a miscellaneous for ones that have no specific category? Margie

Is this contest getting confusing, or is it just me? So many categories. What if our gardens have stayed the same from last year? Doesn't seem right to enter the same photos each year.

Just make it a different angle of the same flower, and the problem is solved!

This is my 1st time that I plan on entering. When we submit the photos under the proper category are WE suppose to indicate the "subcategory"? (ie: container gardening: best use of color, best container, most unusual etc?) in the 50 word or less text box, or does Dave put them into the correct "sub-categories"? A little confused I am, but looking forward to it!

No, just upload the picture into the correct contest and then the judges will award based on the subcategories that are given. So if you put an unusual looking thing, then it might get voted on for the "Most Unusual" category.

Should the pictures be new? (Guess then I can't post my Wings picture again!).

All images should probably be images that were not entered in previous contests. If you haven't entered it before, by all means, add it!

How will the pictures be available for viewing on
judgement day? I suggest something like pages of rows of thumbnails in addition to individual pics perhaps.

Yeh, how are we going to view them Dave....We have to come up with a system to view them pretty quickly or we will be sitting at our computer's all day....I want to vote on everything and seeee everythingggggg..... :o)

This is true...If they load too slowly or are on too many pages, people may just give up and vote for one of the first ones they see and never get to the last ones.

Would you believe......I just found this today! Sure sounds like fun.

I am sooooooo excited-a contest! Now I can dust off all my favorite shots and show them off. I am simply having a wonderful time at DG. I'm going to have to go to my member's page and change a few things (like what's my favorite site?):~)

BTW Dave, how in the world do you stay up on everything on your site. I can't imagine how you do it! I have spent countless hours checking things out and still haven't explored everything that's here. AMAZING, just amazing.
