Hose end sprayer

And I was drenched by the time I finished connecting the fittings.

I wonder why the word "edit" appears in my posts.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Birdsall, everyone who makes a post has "edit" show up, so they can edit for any reason. The rest of us don't see it, as only you can edit your posts.

I have to edit mine often, usually for spelling.

Thanks, Darius.

My new brass nozzzle and I are beginning to establish some rapport. I am finding that I can adjust it quite well for my watering needs.

One observation is that the valves and nozzles I recently purchased came with thin plastic gaskets. I replaced them with rubber gaskets which helped to make peace between me and them.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Last summer I went through probably 4 different sprinklers for a client until I found one that really worked well. It was an old-fashioned brass sprinkler and worked splendidly after new rubber washers were installed.

Today I took the suggestions from the instructions and replaced the first length of my hose with a lighter weight hose. This makes it easier for the motor in the hose reel to work faster.

Now the original length of hose has been transfered to the other side of the house where there is a hand crank. My frugal wife and I are differing somewhat now that I have need of another hose reel. I asked her to finish winding the hose, and she did; she is still not convinced, but that is nothing new. Maybe I caught her at a bad moment.

Lol, I can barely justify ONE reel, much less lobby for a second one!

Holland, MI(Zone 6a)

My wife agreed that since I do not throw money down a hole in the water, another hose reel for the other side of the house would be good.

Now I am campaigning for a wood shredder which on first investigation seems rather pricey. I am looking at a Craftsman that will handle up to three-inch branches. It has 8.5 horsepower which should be just the ticket for what I need. We need to dialog some more. I will try to avoid "intense fellowship."

I just came in from hosing the flowers. I pulled all two hundred feet of hose out of the reel and gave my beauties a good soking. I was also soking from all the humidity. The hose reel worked slicker than snot on a doorknob.

My finance committee agreed that a wood chipper would be ok for this passionate gardener and lover of Mother Nature. It will arrive at its destination an August 19th. Another toy for this boy--perhaps--but I think it will make a great diffence when it comes to cleaning up the yard in the fall.

Good for you, Birdsall... I love new toys myself.

Dairus - I packed up my second hose reel for returning to the store. Parts were missing, and I came to my senses that I did not really need it.

I also bought another solid brass nozzle for around $3, and it works much better than the larger one I paid $8 for. Much easier to adjust, and it shoots a nice long stream. I plan to buy another one when I return the hose reel.

Both sound like a good move.

Holland, MI(Zone 6a)

Here are fotos of the two nozzles.

The large one cost around $8-9. (See next post.)

The smaller one cost $2.36, and is much more adjustable than the large one. Slicker than snot on a doorknob. (The regionality of this phrase goes way beyond the home state of TC.) I think if we have both we are prone to use the phrase if it does not offend our personal tastes. Don'tcha know?

I think the small one would feel better in my hand...

Holland, MI(Zone 6a)

It does feel more comfortable, and it has an even range of adjustment from a jet stream to almost a mist. It allows me to water plants from a distance as well.

Elsie, I finally got a hose end sprayer that really works. It does not dilute the chemical you are using ,so when you are finished with the task you can return the unused portion to the origional container.
It is very simple to use since you only have to set the amount per gallon of water, turn it on and spray away :-D
...Just be sure you do not tilt it so far as to cause the siphon tube to be out of the chemical. It all pulls apart if you need to change solution or clean the filter on the siphon tube. I have sprayers of all sizes up to tractor hitch type, but I think this one is "neater than a 'skeeters tweeter" LOL
Oh yeah, one more thing DUH!....[blond moment going on here].It is an Ortho Dial N Spray....about 8 bucks at WalMart. Good Luck, >^,,^< Shirley

Scooterbug - That is a very good sprayer. I am going to use mine to spray Weed Be Gone soon. Then maybe some Roundup on some creeping junipers. It is nice to be able to simply pour the unused chemicals back into the container for future use.

I guess I should post on the other thread"you know you're a gardner if".....................You get happy and fuzzy from finding a new sprayer........sheesch,SB

Thanks Scooterbug, that's exactly what I was looking for.

The best feeding system I have ever found is this thing called a siphon jet. The fitting attaches to the faucet. The hose is attached to the other end of the fitting and in the middle is a little hose about 1/4" and about 2' long with a wire wrapped around the end of it. The little hose goes into a 5 gal bucket of water with 1 bag of MG or what ever kind of food you use. Turn on the water and water as usual with the sprayer you like to use best. This works great and I don't have to keep adding food etc etc. Nothing to clog up and say you only want to feed a small area I use maybe half or 1/4 bucket of food. It has saved me so much time I cannot tell you.The siphon jet is brass. Got mine at Garden Supply.

Thanks LittleShima, I'll look into that.

elsie,
....The Ortho Dial N Spray came with instructions for making a concentrated MG mixure for the sprayer. Also can turn off the siphon if you need to just spray water, use caution and divert spray to clear chemical first.:-0

Little Shima,
....Sounds interesting, unfortunately seeng as I am usually dragging 200 feet of hose around [or more] the Ortho will be better for me. With a pint or quart of concentrate in the sprayer that uses 1 1/2 Tbs.per gallon I always end up returning a lot of concentrate to the origional container.Seems this is more applicable for my use.
.....Catch ya'll later, more diggin' to do >^,,^< SB
