Images Not Appearing

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Have any of you tried the Plant Database?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I just went to several forums and the pictures loaded fine. I then went to Poppy's hyperlink in the ID forum, clicked on the first few posts and no problems. Then went to angie's Ranunculus thread and it said 6 items remaining and refused to download further. Went back to other forums and the pictures would no longer download.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I did and it seems okay. I looked to see what angie has added and the only one is Sea Thrift. The thumbnails are all showing in that entry... except hers. If I click into her absent thumbnail all the pics disapear....

strange, indeed.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

sorry poppy, what I meant was it was on the same page as the daisy picture you linked to. Certainly not trying to blame angie, she is a little doll and you would all love her. it just seems so many of the problems are where either her pictures are or her thumbnails are.

Okay, I'll run some tests in the morning and will be asking everyone to assist me by visiting various pages to tell me if they crash them or not.

I need everyone's help however, since I am essentially debugging this blind (I can't replicate it).

I'll have some test hyperlinks for you tomorrow that I'll want you to test and see if they cause the problem.

Zany, have you tried "System Restore"? That's what I had to do the other night. I called a computer tech and that's what he told me to do and it was the only thing that worked. He told me to remember when the problem started and when you get the little calendar for system restore, just pick the day before the problem started. Worked like a charm.

Is this one still crashing you? http://davesgarden.com/t/379100/

I made a change to arsenic's pictures.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I could view it from your link Dave.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

But if I go to the forum I can't. The thumbnail is there but no pics if I click on it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Sue, you're right, if you use Dave's link no problem. If you then click on "Identification Forum" then on the Daisy thread, no pics, here or anywhere.

Ulrich

I'm in the PDB at least once most days and today on several occasions, no problems.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Lucky you LOL

However, only time I've had a problem in PDB is viewing a thread posted by the same person as the others

Just answering Ulrich's question re the PDB. I've not attempted the other hyperlinks, it's been an age since I even considered looking in the pets forum

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Dave, I shut my computer down and then came back to DG. I can click on all the threads in the ID forum including the Daisy thread with no problems. It is only when I click on the Ranunculus thread that the trouble starts.Hope this helps.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Why are you all ignoring the PLANT DATABASE ???

Edited to add "duh"

I went to the PDB and had no problem with the threads that I clicked on.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

until the 7th page http://davesgarden.com/f/pdb/120/
where there is a thumbnail from the same person.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You are right....I didn't have any trouble with Netscape though, just IE.

San Francisco, CA

The system restore might work but only if you remembered to set a point recently, sometimes it won't let you go back to a point, because it will say too much time has pasted. Therefore, I set one restore point in the morning and one in the evening which is a huge pain, but it better then having something worse happen. I would assume even if one did the restore and it worked ok, going back to the problem photo or post would cause it to happen again, so you will need to keep setting points on a regular basis. So, far I am seeing everything great, my only problem was yesterday morning and it is fixed now.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that's still not going to work, it's not the system. if I close the browser and reopen, everything is fine.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It won't fix the problem, but will make the images show up unless she visits one of the threads that's causing a problem. I was thinking she still couldn't see images. The other night when I had so much trouble, it was the only way I could get IE to work again.(plus we didn't have a clue what was wrong, had no idea others were having trouble)

San Francisco, CA

Ok, so the system restore feature does not help the problem?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Ulrich thats where I run into the problem is when I go to the PDB and come back nothing loads. But if I close out DG and come back in it does fine. But that's not all the time just the same time as others have posted having trouble I had not been to the threads listed above either.

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

This is really frustrating, DG is such a great source of information and pleasure, but I'm afraid to view new threads now! I'm sure all the great computer literate brains on DG will figure it out. has anyone tried virus scans?

San Francisco, CA

I just went to the id forum and clicked on a thumbnail that flowar, I hope I am spelling that ok, had posted, and then it started happening to me again. No photos and no thumb nails but I am not worried, I am sure it will be worked out in a couple of days.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Thank you Brugie and Mystic.
Worried to hear some folks even have this problem with Netscape now too :~(

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Poor Dave. This is a mind boggler. I just went to the ID forum. It started downloading all the pictures in the forum. It stopped and the only picture that was not downloaded was the Ranunculas picture. The bottom bar on my computer said:( 2 items remaining) Downloading picture http://davesgarden.com/pics/ecobioangie_1050722
It was stuck right there and refused to download any further. Went back to this forum and it is also stuck with 4 items remaining and will not complete the download.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just clicked on your hyperlink Snow, and it won't take me there. I get a page saying NOT FOUND.

Just went to the ID forum and clicked on that thread and no problem, but I'm using Netscape now.

PS. Was using Netscape both times.

Brugie, I didn't put it in as a hyperlink but copied the download information that showed on my bar. It must have been automatically turned into a hyperlink.

Dave I saw the pictures from your hyperlink but not when I went to the forum.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Now I just went thru the brugs and was fine...also some others, everything was fine.I clicked on the ID forum, clicked on one of them(no ,it wasen't the one that everyone is talking about,I think there was columbine or something)any how, clicked on it and poof,no more pictures anywhere......

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Ulrich, I did indeed try the restore system feature. Several times since I had restore points set up for every 2 weeks back to 3 months. The problem did not cease. I also did a thorough system maintanance and defrag, a thorough virus scan using 3 different programs and reinstalled everything on my system from scratch TWICE! I have eliminated all old files and unused programs in the process and cleansed my music and photo files. My system hasn't been so clean and fine tuned since I bought it. I also updated my browser from IE 5.0 to IE 6.0 to see if that would help...it didn't.

Dave, I am glad you decided to jump into the fray on this because it is way over my head!

ßernie

Ulrich

I answered that question too, just above where you ask why are we ignoiring the PDB.

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok, here's the latest on my end. I'm at work now and I can see everything without any problems. No problems at all. I've visited the threads people have trouble with and I have no trouble. I DID have trouble last night at home when I clicked on the link Dave gave to the post someone made. I could see the post from the link, but like others said, when I went to the actual forum...then I had trouble with the thumbnails not loading and the pictures not loading when I went to the post. I'm not sure if something has been changed or if it's different because I'm on my laptop now. I'm using Windows 2000 and IE 6 on this one...and I'm on a totally different network. Maybe I should try my laptop at home and see what happens.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Dave - I went to your hyperlink to the Daisy thread and everything loaded just fine. I then went to the DG homepage and then clicked to Identification and then Daisy thread. Again, everything loaded just fine. I don't know if you tweaked anything after the above folks had trouble with the thread. I'm using the latested updated version of IE6 with Windows XP Home.

I am not seeing any thumbnails on any forum except the Photo Forum, and the date/time column on each forum is blacked out, except for a few scattered dates and times. IE v. 5 for Mac.

It's the same on Netscape. No thumbnails, out-of-kilter columns, and blacked-out date/time column on forum contents. I was not having these problems before the fix Dave reported doing this morning, so there must be continuing interface problems.

Same problem here; and I didn't have any problems before.

Edited to add: I think it's the * thats causing these problems.

Oh, thank you for posting that screen shot, Arsenic! It's awfully hard to describe what one sees in words.
