Images Not Appearing

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

there may be a connection, I've been trying to look at the threads in Propagation "up in 5 days" and "first time from seed"

A few minutes ago, DG started loading really slowly, without the logo, and thumbnails were missing. As an experiment, I went back to Netscape and everything was fine -- all pics were there, the logo was there, and loading was fast. This particular issue truly must be an IE thing.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

But why with just DG? I don't get it -- it never started happening until just this week. I'm sure Dave is as frustrated by it as we are, but can't do much without being able to duplicate the issue on his own computer to aide in his diagnostics.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had the same problem with BGI this afternoon. Then I went to ABADS to see if it happened over there and it did. That is when I shut down and went outside. LOL!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I am also having the same problem off and on. It started yesterday.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Bruggie, did it happen on those sites before you came here or after? It seems that after it happens here it affects all graphics or at least most of them even affects my photo folders until I reboot!

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

hczone6, I downloaded Netscape and am using it right now. Works fine, thanks.
GW, why not try it too?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Since the problem is sitewide and affects even the PDB we really need to get to the bottom of it if possible. So many people use the Database that are non members that if they are using IE will become very frustrated and never realize what a great place this can be...lost possible membership. We are being listed more and more in print magazines as well so more IE users will try to check us out...more frustrated people...and so on and so on. I would really like to see the problem resolved!

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Dave kindly explained today why he is not in a position to fix this problem. So the solution is to use Netscape (see above) at least for the DG and PDB websites. It's really no big deal.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i am solely using Netscape, therefore not having any of the problems u guys encounter. last night when i saw Cala post she is having problems. i suggested to clear history, do defrag and reboot system.

i take that back, occassionally my system do slow down when i stay a while, kind of weird cause i got lots of memory in the ram of my computer. the problem is immediately solve after i clear history, defrag and reboot. i've notice this problem only very recently... within this week. hope this problem will be resolve soon. i've never encountered slowing down before.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Ulrich, I just loaded Opera's free browser and it is working fine for me. all pjotos loading fine now. My concern is that those who check us out that are not yet members will not be able to read these threads to know what to do and will just go away shaking their heads in frustration and propbably thinking the site gave them a virus!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

A few 'in the know' using Netscape doesn't solve Dave's problem of this affecting all the potential and/or less adventurous members as Zany points out

Perhaps you could find some way of accessing DG using IE Dave and getting to the bottom of what is a problem for so many of your current and potential subscribers.
It doesn't help us that you are more computer literate and look down on IE when that is the most used browser by the majority

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

For me it is not related to the Bismark photo because I have never seen it. I can be scrolling around reading and looking at pics, then all of the sudden I have no pictures. I just have to shut down IE and reopen to get them back, but it is happening often.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

But were you looking at pics posted by the same person?
http://davesgarden.com/t/376569/

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Okay, I surfed around for 30 minutes, no problems. Then I went to 'first time from seed' in propagation and it started back up. is it because the file names on angie's pictures are too long? I get properties of -1, but they didn't load, so not sure if that could even be right.

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

I work for a software developer...a large one. I hear the code-cutters talk about the IE/Netscape issue all the time. There are some sites that are "optimized" for IE and some for Netscape. I've never had trouble with DG on IE in the past....or not that I can remember. I'm sure it'll clear up and I'll keep using IE. I've had more trouble with Netscape actually...but not on DG. Some sites that have a lot more java and other 'fancy' stuff gave me fits with Netscape. For example, my online banking will work with Netscape, but the page's graphics are all messed up and it looks like [deleted]. Also, in Yahoo Mail, when typing mail in html formal (not plain text), well....I don't even see the option for the html format!...I can only do plain text in Netscape. That's the way it is right now anyway. I will however say that Netscape (the latest version) has gotten a LOT better. Version 7.02 is what I have. I think many people mat still be using version 4. Anyway, I'll use IE as my primary browser because most sites have optimized their site for IE and it's more user friendly for me...but if I have trouble, I just go to my backup...Netscape (and I also have Opera just in case http://www.opera.com/ )

I've had no more trouble until this morning when I went to this thread. http://davesgarden.com/t/379054/
The same thing now is happening, pictures will not download. This is also the same post I was on two days ago when the trouble first started. It seems that this is more than just a coincidence and may be worth checking into.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I use either Navigator or Safari and have no problems in seeing any of the photos. Plus with them I don't get all those pop ups like with IE. But I use a MAC at home so I don't know if they are just for Mac's or not.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Snowhermit, I followed your link and it did that slow down/no image, then any site I went to wouldn't load images. Something here is messing up IE. I had to shut down IE then reopen it to get back into DG.

San Francisco, CA

Maybe Dave should remove the photo/link in question? I have not been there and everything is working perfectly.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Yes cala. That's what it did for me too.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Yep...it was working fine this morning, then went to view the link Snowhermit mentioned above and it started all over again. By rebooting everything is working properly again.

San Francisco, CA

try deleting your cache of internet files also.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I have tried deleteing the cache, defragged, and even did a system restore. Nothing worked. I even spent 3 hours reinstalling my startup disc.

It looks like my only options are to

1. use opera which I do not like
2. try Netscape (I'll do that next)
3. keep switching back and forth between browsers 1 for DG and IE for the rest of the WWW
4. give up on viewing photos or graphics while on DG and reboot when I leave here (what a pain!)
5. Give up on DG ...which would really be a loss!

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

I cleared everything, defragged, etc. I'm not sure how to change from IE to netscape, I hope this gets resolved, I'm thinking the same thing as Zany,it could hurt membership.

When did you last update Internet Explorer? It's worth a shot...

Internet Explorer update: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

I'm running 5.5 and it's been fine for me. I've heard of people experiencing difficulties with 6

This is the only hiccup it's ever given me, so I shall now just avoid the problem posts
Newbies to DG won't know though, but that's Daves problem

New York City, NY(Zone 6b)

To add to the seeming chaos over this issue that is being discussed on a couple threads, I haven't had a repeat of this problem since it first occured on the evening of the 19th.

It never occured for me on any other sites, whether coming from them or leaving DG to go to them.

Using Win2K & IE6.

Adam.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think someone hit it on the nail head. I was doing fine until I went to the link mentioned in Snowhermit's post and now.....no pictures. It must have something to do with that....how, I don't know, but it seems to be one common thread.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Adam, did you go to the sites that everyone is having a problem after?

I have win ME and have IE 6 and I have shut down soooo many times in the past day and a half I think I'm gunna stay away for a while till the problems resolved.......

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Adam, please try those threads, it's the only time it's happening for me.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Zany, when you said "My concern is that those who check us out that are not yet members will not be able to read these threads to know what to do and will just go away shaking their heads in frustration and propbably thinking the site gave them a virus!" and what Philomel said right after that are excellent points.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have just gone through all the forums I watch and purposely did NOT click on any of Echo's threads until I had gone through everything. Then I went to one of hers in Perennials and as soon as I clicked on that thread....no more pictures or Daves Logo. My question is: How can this be an IE problem if all the other threads and pictures work, but hers don't? I'm missing something here I think.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It's happens to me with other members threads. If I click on almost all the threads in the ID forum the pics disappear. If I close down my browser and then open it back up things are okay again.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes, poppysue, but only AFTER you've viewed a thread where angie has posted in my experience - and that of others here.
Then it's impossible to get any photos or logos at all until you reboot

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It happens on this one http://davesgarden.com/t/379100/ .... and there's no Angie post...
And Yyvana's, Honnibee's, and Flo's ... Angie hasn't posted in any of those threads. If I shut the window down and open back up, pics are back... until I click into a thread. I can view the pics on the photo forum okay.

It's funny how this started happening to everyone all at once. I'm on a new PC with windows XP IE6. It's been smooth sailing until the last couple of days.

I had no problem with that - heart in mouth while I tried it LOL!!
So were you going ok until you tried that thread and then it wouldn't load, or had you visited a thread with an angie post immediately before going there perhaps?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

but angie's thumbnail is on that front page.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Could it be a virus problem? Sounds like something similar that happened to me. I've had no problems here.

This is where I went to get fixed, the people are great!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Angie's thumbnail doesn't come up on the front page but all the others do. If I click into a thread (anyone's) the pics disappear. I can view the photo's in the pets forum... but not hers and the pics all disappear if I try. I can view the PDB pics okay. Photo forum seems okay... and wildlife.

I dunno. I don't have to re-boot to get out of it. If I just close the window and then open back up I'm okay again.
