What a difference a day makes!

Or longer .. who's counting anyway ;)

On 17th March 2002, tired of struggling to plant 18 inch wide borders and failing miserably, we dug up part of the patio. (pic above) Then, we worried we weren't going to fill the 6x20ft space and it was going to look so dreadful for a couple of years.

We needn't have worried ... the concrete was laid on bare soil, not hardcore.

(pic below, 16th July 2002) This is the result of 7 years of seeds rain washed under the concrete, we've done very little planting in this border, it came up almost all on it's own. No soil improvement was made except a few handfuls of hop pellets and a digging over by yours truely.

We appear have a unique garden ... it creates itself ;)

Very nice - you much have sprinkled magic dust over it!! Or the fairies came to visit!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I wish you'd send those fairies over to my place, Baa!!
Incredible!! Do they divide plants, too???

"eyes"

Nope, no faeries in our garden, it's too crowded with other animals.

Oh, they are there.......You just didn't see them. lol

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

WOW!! how wonderful!!!!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

It turned out great! I wish things like that would happen to me! LOL! I'm still waiting to see where the millions of poppy seeds I planted ended up. Still no sign of them.

What a great looking garden!! Isn't it wonderful when Mother nature does you a few favors instead of messin with ya! I spent the day cutting back all the stuff that got flattened in yeterdays storm.

Joan - I had a couple of scrawny & stunted 'Lauren's Grape' bloom. The color doesn't seem to be much more than the regular purple poppy I have. There's a couple of bigger plants to the bunch that should have a few decent flowers. I'll get a pic when they open - it should be soon.

Thanks everyone!

Joan, poppies tend not to grow well here, except for the already resident Paeony flowered and a suprise P rhoeas that turned up in the front garden this year.

Poppysue, sorry to hear what the storm did for you :( The 3ft tall Geranium pratense keeled over last week and squashed a number of smaller plants. Fortunately it was in the wildflower garden so they will spring back in time

Very pretty, Baa. When things volunteer in my garden they are usually weeds.

Thanks Mary

LOL, there are probably a few weeds in there too!

That's amazing Debby - what a treat!
I've got a lot of concrete to get rid of here, but unfortunately it's thick, thick, thick, so will have to hire a pneumatic drill - and someone to work it. Remembering the carpet layer, perhaps that won't be too bad a thing, LOL!
