Flexi-Hose?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Have any of you actually used the Flexi-Hose that's being advertised on TV? It's made of some kind of fabric, like firehoses, I think. It rolls up flat and is flat until water goes through it. It looks interesting, but we don't want to hassle with mail order and all if we don't know it is a really quality product. Thanks for any info! :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Whoops -- I guess it's called Flat Hose. http://www.tvinventions.com is the site they gave. Here is the direct http://www.tvinventions.com/cgi-bin/800web/webmall/product.txml?cart=02D13qje.bvh&uu=13289330&BtnOnAccept=EE-@lLCXiMxDv66wuh8spKovdS&%69temname=%46H19AMN&%73hopname=%46lat%20Hose to the Flat Hose.

Anyone?

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Kimberley I have seen this advertized and wondered about it myself!! It does look as though it would make life easier. I wonder if it comes in longer lengths!! Maybe no-one has bought it and that's why they are not responding!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, $19.95 + S/H for only 25' of length does seem a bit steep! I've been able to find stuff about other types of flat hoses made of material, but mostly on the care of them, and they're industrial grade - definitely not consumer budget!

Eastland, TX(Zone 7a)

I haven't tried it, but saw some at Sam's Club about 2 weeks ago. Looked interesting>

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Were they the same price, $19.95? At least with Sam's Club we'd be more assured of a hassle-free return if it didn't live up to its expectations.

I was also wondering about this hose. If it works as they say, I'd probably spend the $20 for it. It's a shame there isn't a hose made that is retractable - similar to the electrical cord on a canister vacuum cleaner. Whenever my vacuum dies I may just open it up to see how that gizmo works! lol In the meantime I hope someone has used this "flat hose" and can give us their feedback.

i saw it on tv late one night you got more for the price if you ordered it from that number i am always getting the hose kinked in the g-h i am definatly getting one of these

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I've wondered about this also...

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I saw it at Sam's too but have forgotten the price. I will check it out again and make a mental note!! No comments please Kimberley!! lol!!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I knew it!!! lol!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Lookie what was in my email today. http://store.yahoo.com/youcansave/flathose.html

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Michele. :) I really like the fact that it has its own reel. It is so much more compact than a hose reel/cart. Hmmmmmm...Sure is tempting just to try, but if I get one I'll buy locally so there's no shipping/handling and returns aren't a hassle.

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Please beware folks, the hose is only 25ft!!! That's not very long.

All the best

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Aye, but we've only got a wee yard (140'l x 40'w including the house).

Hmmmm....Still a little short for the back yard, but I could get one for use in the front yard. That way I wouldn't have to drag the heavy hose all around the house to water the front beds.

And if it does well for me, I'm sure they'll be clearanced come fall and I could pick up two more at a good discount. It'll be a while before we can buy the first one, I think, but I'll post a review. Please, anyone who's used one - post away!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

HA-HA "wee yard".....too much Kimberley!! You kill me!! I still haven't been to Sams so can't report in boss!! :-)

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

HEY KIMBERLEY!!!!!

Are yo' gettin on my back????.... juss cozz I sezz 'weeee' sometime, nah c'mawn, is juss how I tawk.... but ah mean always!!! Even mah 'good laideh' sezz it's trew.....

And they say Texans talk funny. We can't hold a candle to Wintermoor's writing! :~)

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I saw the "flat hose" tv ad last night and I noticed two things that I don't like. One, the hose apparently doesn't work unless you have it completely unwound from the reel (if it worked on the reel, I think they would have featured that prominently or atleast shown it being used that way as that would be really cool!). Also, they said it was based on the way fire hoses are made. Yep, the close-up sure looked like them, but I don't think that will keep them from kinking or wearing out any later. I was a vounteer with the local VFD/EMS and can tell you that even fire hoses kink ~ and how! The only time we didn't have much of a problem was when the water pressure was extremely high. Every other time (being a rural dept., that was 90% of the time), they kinked every other time you pulled on the hose. We had a three-man hose teams ~ one on the nozzle, one behind him and another to watch for kinks. Just something to think about.

For a Scotsman in Germany, Wintermoor, you did purty durn good! But you, Kimberly! For shame! It's "Y'awl sayownd suthun!" *grin* Nayow, ya-onto go-own back ta tha Stayven Kang thured? A'll see ya ovuh thar!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Good point Wingnut!!! Will it or won't it work on the reel!! Wull, awa the noo an toss yer sporan!! hee-he!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

TOSS MA SPORRAN ??????? LMAO !!!
Madam,
Being a subject of our most Noble and Gracious Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth, I do NOT toss my sporran!!!, the reasons for this are twofold;
1) I'd have nowhere to keep my seeds and secateurs when gardening in the kilt.
2) Being Scottish, the only thing I would toss, if anything, is my caber.
So there!! Hmmph!

BTW, the flat hose, as Wingnut said, cannot be used unless completely rolled out, since the water would just not get through. I still think the waggon to roll-up the hose is the best, and remember that these flat hose sections they are selling are short, and expensive.

All the Royal best

http://davesgarden.com/showthread/232464.html

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

lol Kimberley!!!! Winter I know ya toss yer caber - but I do have vision of you tossing yer sporran and yes, I imagine you would keep seeds in it amongst other things...lolol!! Wingnut I will allow this most noble Scottish gentleman to explain the terms sporran and caber and noo and awa!! hee-hee!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I've actually seen the caber tossing on TV. First on "Home Improvements" (anyone remember that episode?) and then on a sports magazine show. That's *amazing*. Wintermoor -- HAVE you tossed a caber? The most I've ever tossed is my cookies!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Ladies,
Yes, I have tossed a caber a few times, but only scored on four occassions.
The idea is not to throw it far, but to turn it over so that the part which leaves your hand, faces away from you at 12 o'clock. The tosser who gets the caber closest to 12 o'clock wins the competition. My best score was 10:30, after the caber had been shortened by about 2 feet. *puff and pant*.

BTW, if a caber should ever land on a flat hose, it would bury it into the ground, so make sure there are no highland games nearby when you are watering your garden with your new toy :-P
(at least I kept to the thread)

Oh, you're good. Really good. Smooooooth segueway there, Wintermoor. ;)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

But what about yer wee sporran Winter!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Hi Louisa,
actually I have an excellent sporran, and it is a wee one, made from seals-fur, and dyed deep red, not one of those enormous things that look like you've got 'PepeŽle Peu' hanging from your kilt.
I'll take a 'wee photie' of it and put it on my journal soon, but I'll give you plenty warning ;-)

Maybe I'll put more articles of the highland dress on my Journal, to let our international sisters, and brothers, know what highland dress is all about.

Och aye,

Wintermoor

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'll have you know that Patrick Norton on TechTV's "The Screensavers" wears his kilt on Fridays, but it's a very utilitarian kilt: http://www.nortonfans.com/discus/messages/13/97.html?#POST279

He got his kilt from utilikilts.com: http://www.utilikilts.com

Yes, as if there was a shadow of a doubt before, you now know we are geeks; TechTV is one of my very favorite channels. ;)

Sheesh - how ever did we go from flat hose to kilts and sporrans. Talk about digression!! I think we have a very tolerant webmaster, don't you guys!!! :-) I hope Wintermoor doesn't see the links - he'll fall over his caber!! Poor innocent Patrick!! Will someone tell him he's wearing his kilt back to front and that his sporran should be at the front of his body and not on his behind!! haha!! As for the other kilts - not one resembled the marvellous clan tartans and I was disappointed but as you say geeky is the operative word!! hee-hee!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Those are the daftest skirts I've ever seen, and to call them Kilts is sacrilege, although one of those flat garden hoses would make a wonderful belt (keep to the thread);-)

Honest!!

Wintermoor

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Actually winter - I had thought of another use for the hose - but will keep it schmuck!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

You don't really mean to use it as a hose do you??? *snigger*

All the hos....best

Winter McMoor

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

But certanimento!!! lol!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

That's probably the only thing you COULDN'T use it for..LOL
Other uses:
Zig-zag between two poles as assist for climbing plants,
Tying-up tall Dahlias,
Wrap round unsulation for water-pipes,
Sun cover for seed band,
Towing a broken-down small car,
Makes a realistic fire-hose for garden gnomes, and
If cut into proper lengths, could make lovely skipping-ropes for the children.... er.. that's all.

All the best

Wintermoor
