Melody, I was just wondering if you had any more information aboout this recipe and how it has been passed down, other than what you have posted here. I'm just trying to keep my documentation on it's history as complete as I can so something doesn't get lost along the way.
Joan ,you have what I do now. I really don't have anything else to add. I imagine when the story was being told in the kitchen,Sonny, being a man,had no intrest,or simply wasn't there.
Okay, thanks Melody. I just wanted to make sure that nothing was getting lost on my end.
Melody!!!! I got the chow chow today and it is sooooo wonderful! I got it in the mail today and as soon as I got to work I ran right up to the break room and got a spoon and ate almost 1/4 of it. Had to stop myself, 'cuz I could have eaten the whole jar. Gotta ration it out to myself a little at a time until the garden veggies are ready to make more though.
Thank you so much. This thread was really fun.
Joan
The nosey pollack, who knows absolutely nothing about heirlooms yet was lurking in the background. Learning like TIG. Slow but steady.
NOW I WILL GROW GREEN TOMATO HEIRLOOMS. Gotta try this chow-chow. But time to work on the puter fix from the virus.
This was so much fun to read today. Got an education and a recipe.
Thank you all for the entertainment. I just had to add one more name.
Obssesseive Compulsive you would say LOL
Anyone ever have green tomato Jam. LOVE THE STUFF!
Gotta get the recipe from a friend of DH who keeps me supplied as long as I keep coming up with the Jam jars.
I too will print the entire thread for my Great Niece. She's got a long way to go she's only 3
Thanks for the fun guys
Happy Gardening too all!
okay, thinking about making this again, and it's green as in unripe tomatoes? or green as in Green Zebra types?
Carol: I have lots of jam jars. Do, please, get the recipe.
Green as in unripe tomatoes.....not a green variety.
A very fun thread indeed and exhausting. Was keeping quiet through the whole thing just waiting to see what was going to happen next. Poor Horseshoe, just sitting there about ready to split a gut and getting that itch on wanting to tell what the secret was..........just too funny;him sitting on pins and needles like that. This thread is one for the books for sure.
I was just another fly on the wall.......no buzzing; just being very quiet

This popped up on my radar this morning and while I'm not able to change the title of the thread (I really wish I could...it needs to get more exposure)
This thread is 18 years old...waay back at the early days of DG....I'm bumping this up so all the new folks get a chance to see what fun we had. All of the participants are gone except for me...I'm still here and miss the ones who are no longer with us.
Hi Melody,
" This thread is 18 years old...waay back at the early days of DG....I'm bumping this up so all the new folks get a chance to see what fun we had. "
So, are there a lot of "new folks"? This web site seems kind of quiet now, even though there is a count indicating new members. I seem to remember that you are (or were) a member of the "staff" here. How do you envision the future of Dave's Garden in this post-Dave situation? Is it still a profitable enterprise?
Way to harsh the buzz, man.
No wonder the interest in resurrecting the good old days...
