Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Come join in, there is always a welcome to newcomers!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

They sure look bigger than my son's lab puppies when they were newborn! Lizzie has such a beautiful silk coat. She looks like she would feel like velvet to stroke.

Marie and I booked a sewing cruise to Hawaii that leaves from San Diego 1/11/2025. It will be my first time to Hawaii, and my first cruise.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hurray, Pat! I've never been off-continent, so am a wee bit jealous lol I just know that you'll have a fantastic time.

I just got a final refund from the Calgary airport for my parking fee - $157.50. With the $68.28 I got back from Park & Jet, my parking was free. I'm happy that they recognized that I had a tough parking experience. It pays to speak up :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lizzies coat is silky soft. The puppies all weighed almost 2 pounds each when born. The little runt girl that didn't make it was 1.5 pounds.

Congratulations on the upcoming cruise. I have been to Europe, but never been on a cruise.
Susan, glad you got your refund.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good size puppies Lindakay, Noah’s dog is much the same, love petting him, fur is short and like velvet, he is such a sweetie but wants to play with me and i can easily fall down. If Noah is around he listens. Did you block off a special area for them?

Susan, it does pay to speak up, glad you got $$$ back

Pat, how wonderful, you will enjoy it I’m sure, only cruise I took was to Bahama’s from Miami, sure know the food was excellent, don’t think it’s my thing though. How long will you be gone.
How did the paint situation go in Marie’s car?

Darlene came over this morning with her pressure washer, she didn’t realize I had one, anyway she did the back yard patio and the 19 checkerboard pads, looks so nice, i helped a bit but she would let me do my share.

Tomorrow she and John will come, the generator battery came in today so John will instal it, hoping it is a matter of turning gas on and turn key on if I need it.

So much work and so much help and still so mu+h to do, by the time the gardens are up to par I’m thinking the snow will start falling.

I absolutely have to spend some time sitting out there.

Peighton just left from her lesson and I just climbed into bed

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

The cruise is 17 days long, I don't have a lot of the answers yet about the accommodations. I have a friend who is looking to book a room without the sewing aspect for an interior room. She hopes I can scare up a partner for her.

WHINE ALERT. IF YOU CAN'T TAKE NEGATIVITY, STOP READING NOW.

The carpet alone to fix the paint issue in Marie's car is $3,000, then there is detailing on top of that another $250 plus the contents of the items that were ruined. I guess we will see what HD has tro say when they get the itemization!

City of Pasco came by within 2 hours of the shed being constructed and told Marie (I was out transporting grandchild) she was out of compliance. No way can she make it meet code at it's current size and NOW she also will need a permit to take it down! I am frustrated. Marie can be soooooo stubborn. I warned her multiple times, but she decided to take the risk. I gave up trying to reason with her. before she contracted to have it built. Let it be a lesson to ME. When she makes dumb choices make sure she takes the full financial risk. Let her know I disapprove and let her do her thing.

Stanley has figured out Jenny triggers the dog door & he can scoot out. He's back to being locked in the bedroom.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I am over my pity party/ tantrum. I am grateful the city intervened NOW, before I got it all painted. Before we hired help to drag stuff out of the garage and into the shed. I have not wanted to have this shed built because of the risks etc AND because it put off some serious downsizing of items that I felt needed to go. THAT is no longer an issue.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

"thumbs up" Pat for warning Marie. She'll learn (eventually) to listen to you. That's an expensive lesson.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow Pat, what an experience, how is Marie taking the news?
What will you do with the shed? She should know when you live in subdivisions someone is always watching. It’s been an expensive week for Marie and an upsetting one for you.
You certainly will need a vacation come January. What port will you go out of?

Much like you it’s a day of woe..i am so tired of this tummy sickness, burning and nauseated and couch bound unless I force myself to get up when someone is here offering me help.

I went to chiropractor this morning after a rough day yesterday, wanted to stop at Canadian tire for riding lawnmower oil and groceries sewing it’s a long weekend, paid for oil and decided I was not up to doing groceries, got home, magic, had water softener salt in a plastic tin, guess she didn’t pack up the people in front of me order, i was sick and not paying attention and grabbed what she gave me without thinking of it grrrr called, they will set my oil aside and I will pick it up next time i go to town, not helping me today though.

Susan, Pat and I are joining you with hardships lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

We will leave out of San Diego CA.

Betty, I am sorry to hear you are continuing to feel so physically rotten. That gets old in a hurry.

Verona, ON

The day is supposed to be sunny but it is playing hide and seek. It is also to be in the 70's but I have long pants on and am tempted to put socks on.

Pat whine away. Warren was a big believer is to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. I'm with you.

LK Lizzie must still be tired. That was a long labour. Sorry the little girl didn't make it. I enjoy watching Critter Fixers and they recently had an episode where 1 of the puppies didn't make. Keep the pictures coming.

Congratulations to Sharon and her dog at Westminister. Deb I was watching the afghans and wow they are gorgeous.

Not sure I told you but Zeke had 2 seizures on Tuesday. I am concerned with all his thrashing around he will put his head through the dry wall. He is just a lost little soul after the seizure ends and wanders around aimlessly for a bit. He is also ravenous once he gets his sea legs back.

Susan I sure hope you can get this whole divorce saga completed. I so understand. My first husband stalked me with a gun at 1 point then thought he was so clever avoiding the baliff serving the papers for divorce. I was trying to play fair and NOT have the papers served at his school - he was a teacher. Finally I just said go to the school and get this done. My lawyer, brother and myself were on red alert the day of the divorce at the court house expecting some sort of display. Didn't happen..

My trip into downtown Kingston sure reinforced how blessed I am to live out here in the woods. I just couldn't get over the number of people asking for handouts.

The TH are stretched out sunning themselves on the deck. I think I will have a nap.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty have you tried prilosec. It helps settle your tummy. I took it for a few months when my pancreas was acting up. I took one in morning, one an hour before dinner. You can get them and any store like Walmart, or pharmacy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nice to see you post Dianne..
Tourist time for you and I, trips to town will have to be Monday-Thursday and saw shopping this morning even higher prices. I am with you, quite a few storefronts in Midland have closed so the homeless are camping in the entryway..my heart goes out to them, why on earth in this country are there so many homeless. Much is that no limits on rents being charged, how can you ask $2k for 2 bedroom apartment which is like a low rental apartment. Guess we are blessed?

What i remember most re my trip to California, especially Hollywood, you couldn’t walk for seeing homeless and make shift homes on the ocean beaches,

Sorry to hear Zeke is still having seizures, must be worrisome and difficult to watch, how does Chaos do seeing him in a seizure? Raining here but calling for Sunshine Saturday and Sunday p..did your young helper get all the chores done?

will have to ask about Prilosec when next in town, i bought the new med that gravol has on the market, a 3 in I med. how is Lizzie and babies doing, was listening to CNN and understand Texas has been hit in various areas with bad storm, how is your weather? Have you gotten new parts yet for longarm? So many questions

Could you do your trip Pat staying a few days in California before and after your cruise to take in the sites?

Raining, got back from getting my Covid shot, soup seems to agree with me so made a soup, Darlene and John just called, will be here shortly..omg my hairdresser said my hair was too short for perm, wait 2-3 weeks, feel bad enough let alone walk around like a witch so right where i was waiting for Covid shot there was the perm aisle so picked one up, just started to put my hair in rollers that Marie came to check on me so she did the liquids..

Oooh company here

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

You ARE brave Betty!. If my hairdresser said was too short to roll, I'd have waited. I have ONLY ever helped with one perm so I am chicken!

Marie said she really dreaded telling me about the shed and of course is truly bummed but oh well. We just need to move forward now. We will find someone willing to disassemble it and take it for free. It's too much to hope that someone will buy it when they have to disassemble it to take it.

Deb & Betty's sister Sharon, it must be so rewarding to see your dogs compete.

We want to go at least one day in advance of the cruise departure in case there are flight issues.

The homeless are a heart breaking issue. here as well. I may have a slightly jaded/ cynical outlook on the homeless. At work I spent 2 full days finding housing for a "homeless man" that had multiple strikes against him (sexual assault and criminal convictions) only to have him turn the housing down because he didn't want a curfew! or have any other rules to follow! Also, as mental health counselor I was privy to many "confessions" of clients who admitted to some of their panhandling scams. I'll offer food but no money.

I finished sanding the 2 desks and Marie & I got one coat of paint on. I got the cement curbing recycled (a nice employee saw gray hair and offered to unload for me!) I had help and got the 3 desks I replaced loaded on the truck and they get donated tomorrow. All & all, a productive day. We're actually starting to see progress in the garage, open spaces are appearing!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lizzie is doing good. We lost another puppy. Lizzie isn't producing enough milk, so we are feeding them by bottle.
We have had nice cool days. Very little rain. The storms are hitting Dallas and Houston area. Pretty bad over there.
Longarm parts should be here tomorrow.
Sounds like you have a light at the end of the tunnel Pat.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry to hear you lost another puppy. Years ago I lost a puppy because the mother wasn't making enough milk, and I didn't realize right away. Bottle fed the rest, a lot of work, but, a must, sometimes. I always go out and get bottles and preemie nipples when I have a litter due. I found with my last litter that baby bottles and nipples have changed a lot over the years! Hope she has enough milk so you don't need to supplement them over nights.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We are all taking turns getting up and feeding them. Not too bad. As they feed every 2 to 3 hours. Everyday they are drinking a little bit more.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Here's a story about Medicne Hat's zero-homelessness. Very inspirational
https://caeh.ca/medicine-hat-functional-zero/
Having lived in Calgary, I know that some homeless people don't want to live with the "rules" of shelters and it's a choice to live on the streets. I feel so badly for the children. I also have issues with giving money to those who are not wanting/needing food.
Linda Kay glad you're taking turns feeding so everyone gets some rest
Betty - I can't perm my hair. Portions of it are so resistant & touching it up causes it to shatter, so not ever going to get one. Poker-straight hair is what I live with, unless I use a curling iron.

Well, it's pie-baking day - Monday is the community-wide yard sale & people come from all over for the 40 year+ tradition. We sell lunches of hamburgers / cheeseburgers, pies & beverages from 10am to 3pm, Keeps us hoping, I can tell you lol It's our major fundraiser, and we usually make about $650+
June 3-9th is Senior's Week, and I've entered the Pie Baking contest again. If you remember, I won with my Atlantic Beach pie last year. This year I think I'll do a Gingerbread Apple pie. I'll make one for Monday & see how it goes over.

Victoria Harbour, ON

So sorry Lindakay to hear another puppy died i know how hard it is on Sharon when she looses one so i can just imagine how devastated you are. Let’s hope feeding them does the trick. Glad your area isn’t experiencing the storms. You will be glad to have the other longarm up and running. Have all the quilts been delivered?

Have to smile Pat, many a day I play the little old lay for help except I am the little old lady lol. You sure get a lot done, tomorrow is Sunday so maybe you can take a day of rest. As for homeless, so many families living in their cars, surely there should be some options for them. In Fesserton, Midland there are schools that closed, not large enough to accommodate the volume of children so new schools built, surely some of those classrooms could be made into apartments

Pat couldn’t you do an add putting a lower price on it but adding they must take it apart and taken? A little money is better than no $$. Has Marie been back re the paint in her vehicle?

Deb, Sharon does same, prepares all she needs, bottles, nipples and milk on hand. Guess after you have so many litters you know what to watch for. Are you breeding this year?

Susan, your pies are delicious I bet, those aren’t traditional Ontario pies so don’t get a chance to be able to taste them. There is bakers shop just out of town but she focuses on everything Maple so when she adds the maple syrup it’s all you can taste. Good luck, hope there is another 1sr prize waiting to go home with you.

Lots of fires in B.C.
We will have temps 88°F best part of the week but rain.

Sharon in Vegas has trouble posting photos so here are some for you to enjoy

Was up so early and did get something’s done before the kids got here, went to town, stopped and both were in town, was just leaving when he pulled up to the sideline of me, couldn’t talk as everyone wanted through. I wanted to pick up a few bags of cement but decided no, will do so wheN I go for therapy Wednesday. I did cut the grass but not use my weeder, need to charge battery besides my shoulders couldn’t take it. Just got in p.j.’s and will call it a day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, good luck with pies, I am sure you will do GREAT!

Betty Home Depot says they have notified their insurance but an insurance agent has not reached out to us. The cost of everything, the lost paint, replaced carpet and other items in the car will total about $5000. We are preparing to file a small claims court against them since it appears we will doing nothing but chasing them with vague promises of "our agent will get back to you."

I have contacted a freind about the shed, we'll see. We don't have the official letter that states our deadline & consequences.

We took another load for donations. Marie opened all paint containers that were left behind by the prior owner & we have made paint chips & labeled them all. Maybe soon we can touch up walls and door frames without fear of having to repaint EVERYTHING.

We are waiting for it to cool down before putting the 2nd coat of paint on the desks and then mowing the lawn.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So far puppies are doing good. Making more noises, so I guess that's good.
Sharon's yard is beautiful. But looks like a lot of work for sure.
95 here this afternoon.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Puppies are sooooo much work but gosh they are so cute and inviting!

Sharon, I can't imagine how much work that is to maintain but it's so lush and beautiful.

We napped and then the weather turned overcast.so no 2nd coat of paint on the the desks.. All those buckets of paint and only 1 of them matches anything in this house. The stucco was probably "once upon a time" that color but not now for sure. I wish I had got the yard mowed but it was HOT out earlier before I napped.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Oh Linda Kay! I missed you saying you'd lost another puppy! That's sad for both Lizzie and the rest of you. How's she taking it? That makes 3 left, right?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

No, not planning a litter this year. It's too hard for me to part with them. What started out with me keeping one girl, changed to just the two girls, ended up the two girls and one boy. Probably not another litter until one of these girls gets bred. I'd love to breed their mother again, but, she just turned 7, and I really can't manage any more. I usually only plan a litter when I need a puppy to show, and these 3 will keep me busy for a few years.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, there are 3 puppies now. All male. Lizzie is doing good. My son's female cane corso has been trying to take over. She knows the puppies were not getting milk from lizzie, so we put them in the kennel with her. We noticed this morning that she is producing milk and she fed the babies this morning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

88°f here today with a slight breeze

Great news Lindakay, mommies milk will give them the boost they need and give you a tad more time to rest. Think that’ll is what Noah’s dog is, perhaps not
Too much $$ to let slide Pat, Home Depot can certainly afford to cover the damages.
As for your projects, when it’s that hot it’s humid and paint will take forever to dry and cure.

Lesson to all of us, make sure paint lid is tight and maybe put it in one of those plastic shopping bags.
As to Sharon’s gardens i just don’t know how she does it, should be in a magazine.

Deb, that would be me, would not want to let any of them go
I’ve been in and out this morning doing little q jobs then in laying on couch, should go lay on the lounger beside pond and have a rest

Lunch time, homemade soup

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Deb, I can't imagine you keeping up with your mama dog & the 3 puppies you kept. THAT's a lot of work!

Linda, how many litters has your son's dog had? You are so lucky to have her step up and help! Lizzy has her own nurse maid!

It's beautiful out today., I hope to get the desks painted. My lawn is officially past due to be mowed but I do try avoid that work on Sunday.

I'm still looking for someone to dissemble the shed so we can avoid more problems.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that does look like a cane corso.
Pat, my son's dog has had 1 litter 2 years ago. She had 11 puppies.

Verona, ON

Keiran was here plus his dad came down yesterday to lend a hand. I am paying for it today. I have my knee braces on. In hindsight I should probably have worn them yesterday. But we got an enormous amount done. All the gutters are cleaned - yuck. Steve kept saying he will be down next week to do them. He just didn't say what year that week would be.

Lots of dangerous hanging limbs were cut down and dragged off into the woods. Plus what passes for lawn was cut and the weed whacker earned its name. Keiran was one with the leaf blower...lol. He loves using it. He's going to come and pressure wash the house, decks and outside stairs.

Zeke has had a few more seizures. I've blocked off the stairs so he can't topple down then.

Susan your pie sounds delicious. I have never heard of it.

LK how is Lizzie doing? Happy the other mama dog stepped up and helped feed the puppies. Just think of all the puppy breath!!

Betty how are you feeling today? Will you hear lots of fireworks?

Pat you are making headway. It's the pits about the shed. I can't imagine you have had no takers for dismantling and taking it away. Here there would be a waiting list to do the job. Warren was a great 1 for asking forgiveness not permission - I am the opposite.

Tragic accident on Bob's Lake just north of me. 3 killed 5 injured. Sad way to start the summer season.

Enjoy your day. I hope this delightful weather will be around for the US long weekend.

I could never breed my dogs. I'm afraid I would become 1 of those people who just has too many dogs/puppies because I couldn't part with them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, poor Zeke, has he been diagnosed? Was the best weather for a May 24, everyone was working out in their yards but very quiet today. Glad you had help, my house and gutter needs doing, perhaps this week.

Sorry to hear about the accident, so many lives will be changed. Car or boat accident? We had OPP Helicopter making passes this afternoon, worrysome. If it hasn’t reached you yet the sky just went black, wind came up and thunder/rain, lasting about 1/2 hr. Looks pretty as the sun is trying to break through it.

Lindakay, I’ve heard Noah use that breed name but I also remember hearing him call it ya secondary name..he is beyond loveable.

Pat, bet your desks are now set in their new location and you are smiling, one more job behind you. I’d have to say Roger was much like I, make sure all is within the laws as not to be worried about neighbours all in the municipality. I am with Dianne, there would be a lineup to disassemble the shed. Could alterations within municipal plans be done so you could still have the shed although smaller.

Yard looks so much nicer now that front ditches and trimming are done. Focusing on back for now, thought I had about 3/4 done back there but took photo’s and see all work yet to be done. Big sigh but am feeling much better now that I can see playing outside a few hours each day and voila, done!
Clouding over but rain can come now that the long weekend has passed. Yep, you should have had your braces on while working.

Only thing I ate today is a grilled cheese, think a 1/2 bowl of soup then a bowl of strawberries/blueberries and bananas will do the trick

The 2 photo’s with yellow tablecloth are from within the secret garden, the are the plow rammed all the lilac trees last year so not quite so secret.

Have to add edging the gardens to my list, think if I keep going I will be 1/2 finished the back yard..

Sorry to her he is still having seizures Dianne. I think you said he is on meds. They are not working? Whst is causing them?
Betty, your yards are beautiful.
Cane corso dogs are also called Italian mastiffs.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Poor Zeke. He must be frantic when he has seizures. Do they have different meds for dogs than humans? Different levels, of course.

Wow, you gals are really ahead of me, for yard tidying! Good for you :)

It was a cold, windy & rainy day for our annual yard sale in the hamlet. People were coming into the centre just to have hot coffee & get warm. Not as many vendors as usual, because of the weather. Ah well, there's always next year.
Whole pies were sold as well as "by the piece". Lots of coffee sold lol
Still, people came in & visited with each other.
Dianne hasn't been able to serve the papers to Bob. She's hoping to find him at home tomorrow. Trial date is May 31st - time is coming up fast. If she can't serve them, I'll have to postpone the court date. I haven't been able to find someone to help me figure out "Properly filed" for the Property.portion of the divorce request. There's less than $50k worth, so Legal Aid won't help.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Stormed all night and just a misty morning, that is ok, it’s telling me that it’s a clean inside day lol

Lindakay, some call him American Bully and also called Pitbull Noah said, how are Lizzie and the babes?

Susan, you would think if Bob is due $$ he would be be ready to accept paperwork and make it easy to be served. Thought legal aid is suppose to help the little guy. Are you still part of, drats forgot the name, company you pay monthly and they help you out on anything legal?

Finishing my coffee then have to call Roger’s and gas company, talk about screw ups in billing, they sound like they are part of your court office Susan, never get it right.

Best I call and get it behind me

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning.
Susan, praying you can find someone to help you.

Lizzie and babies are doing good.
Betty, pit bulls are a different breed. They look similar, but different.

I just found out that Debra Carson from derby kansas passed away Sunday morning.
Please keep her family in your prayers. She had been having heart issues.

Victoria Harbour, ON

In my prayers Lindakay
Don’t recognize her name so likely she was on a different site, sorry for your loss as well

Sharon dropped off a baby throw for me to do hand sewing on binding, good da y with this wea ther to sit and hand sew

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

My dear friend Dianne was able to serve the restraining order trial date paperwork to Bob today. Trial date is May 31st, so it was getting under the wire. That's one stress off me now.
Betty - there is no $$ owed to Bob. He got the motorhome, and all his stuff. He was offered more stuff, but never bothered to pick it up & the RCMP said to get rid of it, so I did. Dianne wasn't going to buzz into his apartment, because she thought he would refuse to let her in. She has a friend in the same senior's apartments, so she had him let her in then she went to Bob's apartment to serve him. He asked "what's this about?" and she told him she thought it was a restraining order. Whether he comes to the trial or not, it's up to him now.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Hoping everyone is okay. We usually don't go a full day with no posts.
How are the pups doing? Their eyes should be opening soon.
How is Zeke doing? Would the vet consider changing his meds to help with the seizures or is this something you and he will have to just deal with?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, in chiropractor office waiting for my treatment, looks like a sunshine day but rain this weekend.

I worry with courts these days that Bob could come up somehow on top so praying not.

Pat, any takers of the shed?

Lindakay, best part of puppies is when they start moving around.

Dianne, how is Zeke been doing?

I did a bird bath in the drive yesterday, don’t like it, maybe when i take it out of the hole tomorrow it will look different, after my session I’ll drop in at friends and pickup some rhubarb, need leaves but will enjoin cooking up the rhubarb, love it with toast

Dr, called last night,s aid the 2 spacialist they referred me to can’t take me, too many patience
He will try to get one closer to city, who knows. I said ‘do me a favour, when I die do an autopsy on me and let my family know what I had’ he didn’t say a word

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.
Betty, so sorry you can't get into the specialist. It's taking months here in Texas to see any doctors.
I saw my eye surgeon yesterday. He agrees, my eyes are bad. My first eye will be done on June 6th, the 2nd eye on the 20th.
We lost another puppy yesterday. We only have 2 left. Doctor said he had a severe lung infection. The remaing 2 were checked out, they are doing fine so far.
