Best/Worse/What I’d I learn Today..Pull Up a Chair,come chat with friends, everyone welcome!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear they had to put thier dog down.
Get some rest. You have had a busy day.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Praying for David.
Betty - bears? Yes, I'm glad that Ziggy wasn't out, too.
Sorry about them having to put their dog down. My friend here, Dianne, was asking what to do about a depressed dog. It was her son's dog, and her son passed away a couple of weeks ago. It's mourning the loss of his human.
Dianne - I'm doing an embroidery project too - Susan's son, Josh, is getting married May 27th, so I thought I'd make a double lap quilt for them. I'm embroidering a center for it that is two doves with a sun & a ribbon entertwined on the outside. I'll put their names in the middle.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that quilt sounds beautiful. Can't wait to see the photos.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It'll have to wait. This is hand embroidery :) Plus, I want to match the right fabrics.
She like metalic plus jewel tones. It has to be just right.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, almost night time, i haven’t been outside but believe it’S even more glorious than yesterday!

I’ve been up since 6:30, haven’t done much on the kayak, was hoping to have it finished by Friday but no go. Found some painters cloth and tried that Victorian Santa’s hat and mitts.. both hat and mitts need to be refined in the cutting, i will make
A template..just wanted to see technique. Tomorrow I will decorate the set and keep it.

Got an update from Linda, they had a scare and decided to put David on the heart and kidney floor..am sure Linda is relieved

Be Bach in a bit to reply to posts

Just eating supper, 1st meal of the day, best I eat quickly as Peighton will be here for her sewing class at 4.

Lordy I’m not looking forwards the clocks being changed this weekend..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Can't wait to see the Victorian Santa.
Betty, please take care of yourself. Not eating till afternoon is not good.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, can’t wait to see your piece..hope they will appreciate it..gives you something to do, and we all need something to calm us from daily routine. Are you still bowling?

Sharon, we’re you not starting an embroidery?

Lindakay, not a whole Santa, just a hat
It’s not decorated yet with bells, cheese, greenery etc. photo does not do it justice
I’ll finish tomorrow after I decorate it..easy project for kids..trying to figure out the 1/2 hr baking.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What has to bake for ½ hour?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well darn, it's been a long time and I've tried to be so careful, but today I got careless and took a hard fall. I ought to have a pretty purple hinny. Sure does hurt.I've been so proud to be able to tell Dr.s I haven't fallen in over two years. Dang it.

Still went out and got a few things we needed and lunch at a favorite spot. Also found a few missing necessities. Made me happy.
I know I had at least 6 pairs of reading glasses, just can't find them. Then i lost the pair out of my purse yesterday. Went to Walgreen today. They have good quality on sale. Buy one get 2 more free. Should keep me going for a while. I really need at least two more but was just hurting too bad to stay out longer.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you don't bruise too bad.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, glorious day here, might spend some time outside but I’ve so much to finish on that glass piece that i want it off my coffee table look like kayak filling in nicely but I know how much time it requires grrr

Oh no Karen, thankfully nothing is broken but bruising hinny can be just as painful.. next .few days will be much the same…drats and more drats.

Lindakay i made the grunge recipe and baked in oven turning every 10 minutes or so, will try another using different fabric to see how it holds its shape..when you tap on it it feels like cardboard..have the put a rad of stuffing in it.

Lordy i slept 8n til 8:30, although 1st part of the night was nightmares so little behind. i put an ad on our community blog and asked if anyone had Xmas trees they didn’t want this year, one lady up from Greg responded she had 2 so off i go to get them..they are for outside out front..if one is better than my basement tree i will exchange it. With weather so nice i might even flock (?)one today lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't know what the grunge recipe is.
Glad you found some Christmas trees.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Went to pick them up but everyone was in bed and they weren’t outside.. so came home and just played with stained glass and getting nowhere with it lol but I’m sitting
Quietly..waiting on update from Linda Re David

Grunge is a mixture of water, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon, used to antique objects used in Victoria or primitive crafts..hardens on its own but if in a hurry you can bake at low temp.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Karen, sorry to hear about your fall. Hopefully it will heal quickly.

Betty, that sounds so nice. Having the lights up and more stuff sorted and pared down. Sitting and listening to music. Yep, good job!!!

Linda, I hope Todd is stronger and you are getting the rest you need. Taking care of another person is hard work.

I got my computer back, only needed cleaning, no parts! Yeah!

Our pet shelter contacted me and asked if I could make some bags for the foster program. They send the families home with scales, milk replacement, medications etc and don't want to have to continue to use grocery bags. I got a prototype made and dropped it off today to see if it meets their needs. I have YARDS and yards of heavy fabric that is left over from a too ambitious project Marie did making shopping bags. for Christmas last year.

We have a huge service project to benefit different charities this coming Saturday. I am taking some of my surplus supplies and other things that I want to rehome. I should find new owners that way! I also have a few blouses I want to donate. I did not want to send to the thrift stores as some are ones that Marie gave me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol, you just added more Pat to an already filled schedule, am sure they are in need. It’s a place I’d never want to donate time at an animal shelter as I’d be wanting to take 1/2 home.

How are you feeling today Karen?

I’m tired, should be…
Going out with Sharon for breakfast and at 10 get an oil change.
Guess i will do my groceries earlier than normal and relax Friday, have the sewing kids from 9-3 Saturday.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It was slippery outside today. When I got back towards home, I turned from the highway into town, and did a 180 degree spin. Good thing the town main streets are so wide. They were this wide so farm machinery had room to pass each other. It helps for spin turns too, with my little car lol
Thank goodness I get my winter tires put on tomorrow at 10. The dump of snow meant that I had to drive some streets & lanes that weren't plowed. I had to go to town today and do some errands as well as bowling league. I did very well today. I got 4 strikes in a row, so put in for the "Turkey" when I got three, and next week I will win my "free coffee or pop" for getting the 4th strike. My three games totalled 707 points - my game with the 4 strikes in a row was 198. That's 5-pin bowling, btw. I was thrilled.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How exciting Susan, but not for the near accident, that must have frightened you….… isn’t this snow a little early?
Thank goodness for snow tires.
That really is good bowling..i belonged to a Monday night league but i did very poorly.that ought to put your team up there

Greg was here for an hour, batteries came in so he came, installed them and now i am back in business. I’d better not be so pigheaded and use it..think i will.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, Good to hear those batteries alone did the trick. The shelter does not need the bags until spring. I will probably not touch them until after Christmas. I just wanted to get the first ones made to make sure I have the dimensions they wanted when I started sewing. They gave me a bag as a pattern & told me what they wanted changed about it.

I get a new power steering unit in my truck tomorrow and hopefully get it up for sale. I don't use it often enough to justify the insurance etc.

Susan, I have all-season tires and I don't worry about snow too much but I am still praying for GOOD weather when I drive to Portland! For 5 pin, THAT is amazing! Good job!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I had started asking before we even made the offer here for a list of rules and regulations. Finally got it today. I am thinking we would not have bought here had I read them first. NO bird feeders of any kind. Heart breaking for me. I loved feeding all the birds especially the hummers.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Congratulations on your score Susan. That's pretty good. Be careful on those turns.
Pat, it always seems people can find us crafters when they need something.
Todd is about the same, losing weight again. Back down to 140. His sugar has been high. We see his Dr. Wed. Actually it's a teleconference call. Hopefully he has an answer.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I will be praying for answers and the ability to implement them quickly for Todd.

I am sorry to hear that, Karen. I do know the bird feeders make a mess and create additional weeds and in some cases vermin like mice to clean up what falls. How disappointing for you. I have never had bird feeders as I had a cat that was a WONDERUFL hunter and the "bird feeders" would have become "cat feeders". Nowadays, I have an indoor cat only but just don't have the desire to take care of bird feeders anymore.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

For 10-pin bowling while I was in Georgia, I scored a 126. It seems to me that scores are lower for 10-pin? I haven't bowling 10-pin for about 12 years, (for the first time) and thought 126 was good?!?!
Shortly I will be picking my car up, with the new winter tires. As for the turn on icy conditions, I don't worry. I seem to calm down when it happens & don't panic. No one was anywhere near, so no danger of hitting anyone or anything. Having almost bald summer tires did concern me in that heavy snow, but I was cautious and made it home safely.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I bought a computer desk second hand on Marketplace. One drawer was jammed and when Walt finally got it open it was full old photo CDs with family pics. I messaged the guy we got the desk from and this was over a week ago, and he said no way to contact the people so just toss them. With heavy heart I did so. Half an hour ago he messaged to ask did I toss them. I said so sorry but yes I did. Then I remembered Walt saying that one bag didn't go for pick up last Fri...On a hunch I went to look and lucky, lucky it was the right bag. I just messaged him and he will come get them on Monday.

Verona, ON

Karen that was wonderful news about the fellow coming back for the photos. Last year I found a treasure trove of family photos going back to the late 30's. I was able to send some photos to 2 of my brother's boys. It has been almost 40 years since we saw each other. There were photos of their parents wedding. My brother divorced my SIL so my DNs were so happy to get them.

Deer hunting started this morning. I heard the first shots just as dawn was showing itself. There won't be any shooting on my property. If I track them down the police will be called. I will not believe some guff about them tracking down a deer that was hit but wasn't killed. Several years ago on my walk I found the carcass and skin of a fawn. I was horrified.

Well most of the wood still isn't stacked as I have spent my time doing the tango with my leaf blower. I need to focus on the wood but as I looked out the window a few minutes ago several leaves have travelled back to their original position. As I mentioned before it is important to get the leaves out of the way where I walk. I fall enough on dry flat ground.

Betty how are you feeling ? When will your sewing sessions be over ? Did the girl who you had mixed feeling about still coming ?

LK I hope Todd can get some weight back on. Is he on sick leave ?

Susan I hope the new tires will keep you safe on the roads.

There has been 2 coyotes lurking around close to the house overnight. I have started putting my bags of garbage in the Escape. They are very vocal and their friends a distance away are answering back.

Sharon I have the liver all set to cook up with onions tonight.

Enjoy your day everyone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Todd talked to his doctor, said until we can see a specialist for his pancreas, which is probably causing his sugar to soar, he will send a new script for his sugar. Farxega. Cvs called to tell us they needed payment before they order it. $545.00 per month. Told them don't order it. That's too much every month.
Dianne, Todd retired last September. Started going down hill soon after. We will call the doctor back Monday to see if there is something else.
Betty, how did the kids craft day go?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, overcast here this morning, says rain this afternoon.

Linda that is disgraceful, that a life needed meds should be put into that situation. must be a similar generic drug available for far less? Here I complain that I have to pay $100 per year and a few $$ each time i pick up a script to the pharmacy.

Sure wish there would be something I could do Re meds.

Dianne, likely deer hunting season is on here as well, but our hunters seem to go north then add that only so many are given tags you don’t see groups of hunters going anymore.

That is a hard job piling that wood, looking at the weather forecast you might get 10 more days without snow. Leaves do get slimy and a danger to you..how close to the house can you park.

There is no finish day regarding the kids who sew, once they stop attending then that will be it.

The workshop isn’t till months end or early December, just getting supplies together

Ooops here is Marie, back in a bit

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

That is awesome about the photos Karen. When I cleaned out the attic here, we took a whole pickup load to the dump, I pulled out the photos & diplomas etc and called the former owner's son. Everything else went to the dump.
Linda, sometimes if you contact the drug company they will give it to you cheaper. There is not always a generic available, it depends on how long the drug has been on the market.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I made 10 loaf pan sized fruitcakes the other day. I'm putting one in the Silent Auction, and one I think I'll send to Susan's family in Georgia. One for me, and 7 to sell. Put the price up a bit from $20 to $25 each. After all, everything is going up in price & putting the "real" ingredients in makes it that much pricier. Real butter, real vanilla, brandy in the recipe & rum-soaked........ yup, gets up in price. Nice that I was able to bring Duty-Free rum home :)

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, I take trulicity, a once weekly shot. Even with insurance it was costly but I contacted the manufacturer and they now provide it to me at no cost. Same with my chemo drug. If insurance balks they will provide. Only takes a phone call. As my Dr. told me no drug company wants to get blamed if a patient died because they cannot afford the medication. Certainly worth a phone call. If they don't help ask Dr. for another option there are plenty of choices.
Is Todd retired? He might be better off applying for disability. Sometimes it takes a fight and even a lawyer but once it goes through they have to pay back to when applied for.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My sister Marie has gotten discounted Rx more than once. One of the times it was the pharmacist herself that found Marie a coupon for a huge savings. Some of her husband's medications can be so spendy!!! It does not help that he has developed allergies to so many medications.

Ben got his disability without a fight but the forgiveness for student loans was barbaric! They were rude and ugly, a terrible experience!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, haven’t even looked at weather prediction for today so don’t know what the day holds.

Been up for an hour, chores are done and i just took meds..entire body is in severe pain so fought it till 4 and got up…told my body I’m not living like this so it best smarten up..

Lindakay, sure sounds like you might be able to find a drug company willing to help, would that be a be a blessing from above.

Told Linda last night that with our medical system being in such turmoil that senior ought to just stay home and die vs going for help.

David has been in the hospital since Monday, not doing well at all and this is what happens last night.. Linda’s update

“Head nurse just came in at 5:26. She Said they are in crisis mode in emergency and all managers and directors were called in and each floor had to cut 2-3 patients that weren't critical and transport them to the big white bldg down near bottom floor of hospital cafeteria entrance. It's called pandemic wing.
He is eating I'm packing stuff up and they are taking him there shortly. I expressed I wasn't happy about this and she said it is out of her hands , the upper directors in charge made the cuts and decisions.
That is all I know “
❤️

So many things I wanted to do today, wanting to beat the snow, but won’t be able get much done if anything.

Thank goodness for chairlift

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that you are hurting so bad Betty. Please call your Doctor tomorrow to see if he can help you.
Sorry to hear about David having to be moved.
Susan, those fruitcakes sound yummy. Good luck on your sale.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sounds to me like David is not being moved because he is not "critical" but rather there is not much more they can do for him & have washed their hands of him. In the hospital's defense, making the decision of who to move can NOT be easy. Sounds like they are stretched to the breaking point for personnel, calling in EVERYONE they can to cover. I cannot imagine how I would have dealt with that if it was Ben.

I went to our service project day, and it was nice. I did not rotate thru the different organizations but plopped down at the Linus Project and tied quilts for 3 hours. Visited with different friends.

I have been sewing up a storm, making doll clothes. I have so many that are in different states of "started", many are more than half done. I would frequently send them to Marie to have a fancy rolled ripple hem put on the bottom of the tops & I did not get back to finish some last year. I am making effort to COMPLETE as much as possible and reduce (alas, not eliminate) cutting out anything new.

Although Marie CONTINUED to buy more used 18" dolls, at least she has been more selective and has stopped all the odd assortment of sizes that make sewing so difficult.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Friday & Saturday's sewing added: 12 pairs of pants (including 2 jeans), 5 tunics (nightshirt or long shirt) 20 skirts, 2 shorts, 9 halter tops, 2 more dresses, 7 shirts with sleeves. I keep a running inventory, so I have a vague idea of what we have on hand to dress the dolls with. #2 & #3 are just closer pics of the overall pic #1. (oops & 1 hooded sweatshirt)

I apologize for "over-sharing", but I wanted to post of picture of Stanley. He finally made the leap from the top of the refrigerator to the top of the black cabinet. That's about 4 foot lateral and 1/2 foot vertical. He has wanted to try but has been to chicken to do it! Earlier I had 4 file cabinet boxes stacked next to the cabinet, the top box did not have a lid on it and was filled with hanging files. It was a very unstable base he made it from there to the cabinet. I think that finally gave him the confidence to make the frig jump the next day.

Beautiful outfits Pat. I know they will make many kids happy.
Can't believe Stanley didn't break anything when he jumped.

Verona, ON

Just came inside - my body said enough. It's cooler today and there is a slight wind. Was able to get a lot done but still have several things to batten down before the snow hits.

Pat I don't think you overshared at all. Stanley is one handsome dude.

Betty I hope your pain level is not too high today.

LK I hope you do get in touch with the company who makes Todd's med. The worst they can say is no but you realize you have tried. They are often more than happy to help out those who find the fee too high.

I could fall asleep if I stay in this chair much longer.

Karen how does the unpacking go ?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, was warm out today, although I stayed in, wind is strong though.

Oh goodness Pat, I’d you think you are over posting what must you think of me.
i also think Stanley is one heck of a handsome dude.they sure like being perched as high as they can.

You and Marie sure make many a little girl happy. This year more than previous years will be difficult for many children, parents will have a load off their hearts worrying their children will have no Santa gift.

As for calling the doctor tomorrow, no go, as i can only get the injections every 3 months and he says nothing left but to do but endure pain..surgery could leave me paralyzed…have a request for specialist but it’s a year waiting list.

Bet Karen is exhausted and rightly so.

Dianne, with these gorgeous fall days it makes it easier for you to do your wood..we’re you raking or piling today.

Susan didn’t you do some of the fruit cake to sell several years ago..perhaps it ended in Covid season.

Linda just messaged me, she is home with David, just didn’t want to stay with all going on at the hospital..no care..so both are going to nap.

Sharon bought 2 beautified Xmas planters from a girl selling them in town, she actually bought 3, delivered one for me..

Kyle dropped in for a visit which is always nice

Still in mega pain but forcing myself to get things done.last thing i have to do is my wed..washed all the bedding and thought while I was at it I would get the Christmas bedding out, when i get my bed made I will have 2 out of 3 in Christmas theme.

Just cooking bacon, should be eating bacon but will cook it and use paper towels til no fat left..this will be my breakfast, lunch and supper

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Actually, Stanley accidently knocked down the acrylic hummingbird that is JUST in front of the frogs in the pic. I was able to glue it back together again. I am trying to find a good place to hang it from a fishing line from the ceiling. Stanley doesn't seek out the highest places very often, he is more of a "dig in deep and hide" kind of guy.

By "over sharing" I meant that was 3 posts in a row!! And yes, I think Stanley is a very handsome fellow, but even better he is affectionate and cuddly. I stayed up later than normal last night sewing & he kept tapping me on the shoulder asking for a lap. I normally read for an hour with him on my lap before bed. He was TIRED and wanted his lap partner. I apparently was not holding up my end of the bargain.

After Christmas last year Marie was in a thrift store and they had a WHOLE cart full of "Bear Factory" (knock off of Build a Bear) stuffed animal clothes. They fit the Cabbage dolls without altering usually, but the 18 inch dolls are longer legged and of course the heads and arms are more rigid. We sorted thru all the clothes for what will fit the 18 inch and got a LOT of good stuff to work with. There were 10 white shirts with a single shamrock on the front. That is why I made all the "Kiss me I'm Irish" skirts. There are Easter theme shirts, Father's Day and many others. Some I will have to alter. NONE of the pants will fit, too big and short. I will take them in and make them shorts.

There were 20 animals that needed to be stuffed, they had velco closure. We dressed them all and attached a 2nd outfit to each one. I should have taken pictures; they were so cute!!!! I was in a hurry to get them downtown before the shop closed to get them all donated. Ginny organizes a group every year that makes Santa bags with pajamas, underwear, toys, for about 100 kids. The outfits included astronauts, surfer, gourmet chef, MD with stethoscope, clown, tuxedo with top hat and so much more. I even had a race car driver!!! I put that costume on the turtle.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Great grand Lorelei spent the weekend with us. We all enjoyed it. She found a drawing site on you tube. I gave her a stack of paper and a pencil and she was busy for hours. She is quite a talented drawer for just 5. This site puts up a picture of a popular cartoon character and then draws it slowly, line by line.

Not getting much unpacking done. I need to go to daughtrs 1 1/2 hour away to pick up some of my stuff. especially a display cabinet. Have a few boxes waiting on it. We were going to go today but it didn't work out. Our room is fairly well set with the exception of some mirrors need to go on dresser. It's harder for Walt to manage these days and I'm no help. We hate to keep asking so just wait until we get an offer of help. He did get our flag hung out front as it only required a short ladder. Also altered 4 lower kitchen cupboards so they are now pull out shelfs. That made a huge difference for us. Bit by bit.
