Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come sit a spell...

Verona, ON

Oh Karen I am so sorry for your loss.

Snowing big fat flakes here. Right on top of all the ice on the lane. My cleaning lady has a brand new truck so I hope she makes it out OK.. It's 4 wheel drive but on ice it's anyone's guess how it will handle. She said it was slippery coming in and that was before it started to snow.

Betty I was up with you. Just couldn't fall asleep. The critters were on the move last night so the TH were too.

Think I am going to start a rug hooking kit I bought. It is just a latch hook one but there is something about seeing it come to life.

Debbie your tree is beautiful. I put out my European Santas and called it done.

The temperature has really dropped from early this morning. Betty, Debbie you too?

Stay safe, warm and well.

Know I posted on sewing thread but thought I’d do so here as well..Rita dropped in as Saturday night she forgot her bears made from her mom’s fur coat, now would like to keep them but they are for her 2 grown daughters

Just got myself into bed..was waiting for Greg but perhaps he is working or forgot to pick up my supplies from fabric shop..been a long day

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Karen..sorry to hear of your cousins passing. Especially hard at Christms time.

Betty..hope you are feeling a bit better. Don't know how you keep goinģ making so many gifts while not feeling well.

I have caught a dandy cold somewhere. I have cold meds though. Hope it clears up soon. I have thrre days of cooking for family over Christmas. Willget the turkey etc tomorrow.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thank you all so much.
Betty, those bears are adorable. I'd find it hard to let them go too.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

it's an interesting December. I've been weapy a few times already. Dec 1 is when my BIL was buried, Thurs Dec 12th was the anniversary of my Dad's passing, and Boxing Day will be the 2nd anniversary of my mom's passing. I'm working very hard on not letting this drag me down during the holy season.
We have our tree up, and Bob's put up lights all around the upper part of our living room - down one side, across the front, and up the next side. It looks like a fairy land. The outside is light up too - all around our deck, eavestrophing, our arch next to the deck. He's going to put out the projectors on the weekend. One's a Peace On Earth manger scene, and the other is a big red bow 😁

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, got about 6” of snow and saw it’s was turning into sleet so got out and start3d shovelling. I find if I avoid listen the shovel to throw it I pay for it, pushing it into the drive let’s Andrew do it with plow.hot coffee warming me up

Susan Christmas deaths and loss of loved ones br8ng all the emotions to the surface..maybe do something special for each of them, celebrate something they loved but can no longer do as their life was too short, live their lives as they cannot!..hugs

Carole, see..even if you are unwell you will struggle to get Christmas dinner happen, we are fighters..

Who got the snow they were forecasting? Think we are blessed with heavy wet snow making white outs more difficult, at least here is hoping. Would like to go to town but won’t if the snow keeps falling.

Off to embroider Andrews scroll pillow

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning. Thermometer says 27, but it doesn't feel that cold. Supposed to be 60 today.
Susan, did your friend ever come and visit?
I need to start shopping for Christmas dinner. We had both turkey and ham for Thanksgiving, not for sure what it will be for Christmas.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My condolences for all of you have suffered losses this year and those that mark their anniversaries this time of year. Having a death associated with a special event I am sure makes that season different forever.

Lyndonville, NY

We have a wicked wind howling here, shakes the house. Sam is NOT happy.

Weather supposed to be nasty until tomorrow mid morning. Of course have doc appointment in the city and can't cancel. I am right along with Betty and the shoulder pains. I am sure just arthritis but it needs gone.

Tomorrow will also start....and hopefully finish Christmas shopping. I did most on line.

Everyone stay safe and warm.
Debbie

Verona, ON

Same weather here as Debbie. It is still snowing and we weren't plowed out yesterday. It will be tricky for those getting out.I just need to get to Sydenham before Dec. 25

Susan I sure hope you can kick this cold sooner rather than later. When I taught almost every Christmas and March break ended up with a bad cold or bronchitis. Those kids even the teens are full of germs.

Carolyn I hope you can shake your cold so you can feel up to cooking and entertaining.

My left eye is still not improving.I have to cover it if I want to see something clearly. I am hoping it is just my stubborn body taking its time healing. I have heard some people experience longer times to heal after the surgery. My right eye is perfect so for that I am grateful.

Karen are you traveling for Christmas Day or are family coming to you ?

That's a lot of bacon Betty. No wonder his place smells like it for a week after. Great gesture by Jeff to make breakfast for his employees.

Wood stove is smacking its lips so I best stoke it up. I brought in enough wood for 2 days this morning. It is just easier for me to do that. It does make walking in the living room a challenge but I keep a path to my recliner.

Safe travels Debbie. Good luck a the doc's.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Just popping in to say HIYA, and, wish everyone a very Merry Christmas filled with Joy and happiness and oodles of good luck for 2020.

Sorry to hear of the bereavements, especially at this time of year .. we have also had one, but no one close, a younger acquaintance who is the local TV Sportscaster .. a great fellow, massive heart attack at 57 ..

Today Lorna;s Mum will be leaving the hospital in Newmarket, and, being admitted to a retirement home in Bradford .. a very nice place, but a massive change for her, Lorna's brother will be doing the transfer ..Lorna is quite upset, we will be going down again after Xmas sometime .. driving :-( Air travel scares the heck out of Lorna re all her equipment .. so be it, we will have wee Piper with us as well.

Betty, I sure hope you see the ortho soon, do they feel it I a nerve impingement ?

Dianne, hope your eye come around .. dang cold here, and, our wood stove is also limitlessly hungry !!

LK, the Snowman you gave me with the train running through it, is sitting on my table and sparkling in the sun :-)

Just finished making a batch of dog food and bagging it, should try and find freezer space for it now ..

MERRY XMAS

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey "M". Nice to see you pop in. Sorry to hear about Lorna's mom. It must be hard for her.
Glad you are enjoying the snowman.

I have a gnome invasion. 😊

Thumbnail by taters55
Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda, those gnomes are just too cute.
We will be going to MI for Christmas, not exactly sure when we will leave. Or come back for that matter. Nice part of retirement.
Finishing up making the scramble and we are done, done, done.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

LindaK, what did you use for the noses? They are really cute!
I just hauled mouse #2 out on a sticky trap and set up 2 more with peanut butter bait. The mouse attractant I bought appears to have lost it's "attractant" because I did not catch anything for days using that bait, this is 2 tonight and Ben says he is certain there is another!!
I have taken the decorated cookies I just finished out to my car, they are for work tomorrow. No way am I going to leave them in house if there are still ANY mice! YUK!! I am getting closer to getting a cat. I love cats but I just don't know how safe a cat would be with Ben's wheelchair.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I used pantyhose pieces with a little bit of stuffing for the nose. Place a bit of stuffing in about 4 inches of cut panty hose leg, scrunch it till it is the size you need. Tie off the 2 ends then hot glue it in place.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

We were given a gnome pattern & 1 piece of fabric for a cute quilt block drawing but I ended up being unable to attend the meeting & drawing. I really wanted to see what everybody brought... oh well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon everyone, stormy here

Oh “M” sorry to hear about Lorna’s mom, heavy burden having to make the decision that she can no longer live alone..was she aware? Weather not the best for travelling..will your great grandchild be with you for the holidays? Anxious to see photo’s

LIndakay, were you gnomes time consuming..

Feels like bedtime as again I’ve been up since 4am..
Yesterday 3am, guess sandman is going to your house first.
Yesterday managed to get the 3 cookbooks done, Drats so pleased to have them finished I wrapped them and brought them into the office along with 3 floral arrangements..needed candles for the greenery pieces, they will have to get theirs later.

I did Suzanne’s child’s no sew blanket last night and this morning managed to make a pillow for leeann’s Son..Tay loves drawing, yesterday I found a photo sheet and had her print his last one on it..not too colourful, just line drawing but I did embroider his name, year and that he sketched. It..he will love it..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Just about over my cold, dealing with bereavements, and will be going to the Longest Night service on Sat, then church on Sunday, and a volunteer potluck on Sunday @ 6pm. Our minister has invited us for lunch after church, because it's in the same town & no point us going home between church & the dinner.
Senior's Outreach just delivered out Presents for Grandparents bag of goodies :) They do this for people who either don't have the where-with-all, or are alone at Christmas.- we happen to be alone - no family in the area, and therefore no one to share Christmas day or dinner with, but we are going to the Legion for dinner. We did this last year, and it was lovely

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

someone asked if our friend had come by - no, she hasn't figured out a time when she can. She has to have someone shovel her walk - gets a fine if it isn't, plus the bus only comes on Fridays. I don't think she wants to be gone that long 😔

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I made 6 gnomes in an hour. Very simple. Get Christmas socks, cut in half. Foot of sock is filled with small rocks for weight, then filled with stuffing. Sew the top closed. Cut out beard, and hot glue in place. Nose is made with pieces of pantyhose. Hot glue to of sock on for hat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy can’t get an easier project.thanks for sharing.

Susan, that makes for one busy day.nice of him to invite you. That is one heck of an outreach project.

Greg dropped off sewing supplies for me, didn’t he fall going down the steps, I heard such a loud noise..must give him a call, he had appt to get his hair cut, should be home by now..know he will be sore tomorrow.

Was tell8ng me about a friend/acquaintance who worked with Melanie died..he just retired early, his young granddaughter found him, he went up on roof to clear snow and fell..tragic!

Bed feels so comfy, sure hope I can sleep

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sweet dreams and a good rest Betty.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

That is tragic Betty. I admit I fear I will have no time to enjoy a retirement. My cousin died before getting any... don't know exactly why this has been so heavy on my mind. Probably because of all the health issues that I am dealing with for Ben. His UTI did not clear up, I have to go back to town and pick up different antibiotics etc.
Took ANOTHER 2 mice out on sticky traps.... I am going to have my son help me flip the couch, so far all 4 have come from vicinity of the couch and I want to check and see if we are hosting a Mouse B&B under/in the couch !

DEAD tired, we were up until midnight getting the cookies & pretzel salad ready for the Christmas party today.

Be safe all! Stay warm and enjoy beautiful Christmas decorations and lights IN your home !

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, so sorry to hear that. Must have been horrible for the granddaughter to find him. Sending prayers for the family.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - that's awful for a family member to find someone who's passed away.
Our minister is a woman - she's a minister in training and still goes to school in Saskatchewan.so her hubby is there, and she's living here. He comes to visit her and she goes home to go to school one week a month. I suspect she'll enjoy the company too 👍

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, break time..didn’t get but an inch or so of snow last night, municipal truck went through but no snow bank I have to contend with..yeah on shovelling.

Oh Pat, do you have a kitty? Might be worthwhile, friendlier to have around than mice. Sorry you are still dealing with Ben’s health issues..the stress it must put on you. Are you having Christmas or will you be joining family?

Susan, once her training is done will you minister be leaving your community?

Karen, nalthough I am next to done I so want to try one of those pieces to set phones on..trying to put it on my to do lists.

Priority 1 this morning, call Greg and see how he is doing after his fall on my back steps last night. When he was here last night none of the Christmas lights were on, he couldn’t get over that..guess I had an emotional hour or 2 after my moms call. I still can’t figure out how someone who stays in her house, content with life she has end up with stress in it? I actually raised my voice a few times, even to the point I all but called her STUPID, drama, drama, drama all of which I do not want... Big sigh!!

Coffee mug empty so must mean it’s time to go back to my projects..finishing Sharon’s birdhouse, working on Susan’s quilt.

Gave LeeAnn Taye’s Pillow I made in a few hours after her telling me he loved sketching..she says he will love it..too bad lines weren't darker.

Posting photo of Jeff playing Santa, keeps his fathers tradition going playing Santa, think he needs to put on more weight, costume must be about 45 yrs. old.

Going to get Linda’s throw off the frame so I will have binding to hand sew tonight, best I get moving.

Hard to believe you keep adding Christmas projects. A womans work is never done.

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone.

Betty I thought of you yesterday when I heard the 400 was closed down at Innisfili Rd due to weather. But then I realized from your posts you were home.

Pat I hope your salad was tasty after all that work.I have never heard of a pretzel salad. Enjoy your party.

A friend emailed me last night and told me that from Dec 24 - 26 she and DH will be having 4 turkey dinners. Blended family and each kid wanted Christmas in their own home. She said by the time she finished she would be gobbling.

LK steak sounds good. I bet my friend would love to have 1 of her turkey meals as steak.

Might make my heart attack shortbreads today.Other than that I will not do any baking. I'll just eat it myself.

Susan they have difficulty keeping a minister at the United Church here in the village. Possibly because the minister services 3 churches. The Anglican church closed its doors in the 70's. But we still have 5 active churches in the village. Car lots and churches.

Hope Greg is none the worse for wear after his fall. He's a big man... he has to be hurting. Warren fell 1 Christmas Eve on the lane and cracked his ribs. The moaning began and didn't stop for days. I have broke ribs and cracked ribs a few times and sure didn't make noises like that.

I just saw on GMA that a family bought a Christ tree, put it up then realized there was a live owl in it.

Karen safe travels for you and yours.

I woke up yesterday and my left eye saw much more clearly. Today even more ..... woo hoo.

Liz I know you pop in now and again ... hope you and Kenny have a great holiday season.

First of my daily eye drops are done so I will go find something to eat.

Stay safe and well.

How long will it be Dianne before no daily drops. Not sure about your area but shows here that although it will be cold no snow..could change though!

That pretzel salad does sound interesting, don’t think I’ve ever heard of it either.

Lenny dropped in, was in Barrie, saId you cant move for shoppers..

I’m going to go to Meatland to get my supplies for meat pies, would like to do my pies both fruit and meat tomorrow, we will see..

Ready tonight to put last gifts under tree

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, sitting here watching weather last night.....and DH starts saying "SEE It's Betty's fault...it's Betty's fault!" I said WHAT is! He said they just said snow is coming straight from Georgian Bay! Good grief.

And ...he is on vacation now until 26th. Heaven help me.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear that you can see clearly Dianne.

Debbie, that is too funny, what your hubby said. Blame it on Betty. 😄

I have all pressies purchased. And only a few more to wrap. I will be glad when Christmas is over.
