My Mom always taught me is bad luck to take tree down before January 1st.
Therefore, I take no chances and artificial tree or not...is staying up.
I didn't decorate much else. I tend to decorate for "Winter" and not actual Christmas.
Meaning there are snowmen everywhere....little angels (most out all year) and I can leave it up. No Santa on anything. and the religious ones I have are also year round, not Christmas.
Best/worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friend old & new..all welcome..
Bad luck to me Debbie would be carry8ng these totes to the back shed in 2’ of snow.
Am sure your winter decor is lovely.
My body is saying I have to stop, need to go to back shed for 3 lids that I didn’t bring in..made it to town, bought 20 rolls of tape, tapping each tote as I set them outside on back deck..there they will have to stay until I’m up to doing to carrying.
I’m saying to myself, won’t do this next year but you will lord willing I will..
Betty remember to mark what is inside this year. You said you needed remind that last year.
Thanks, I didn’t mark every item but market each room
Going to vacuum, then hot bath/Epson salt, pain meds and feet up
I’m done
Dianne - hope you get some answers about your knee, and that they are good answers
Betty, Betty, Betty - you make me lol with all your energy! Just don't overdo it, please.
Debbie - bad luck to take down before Jan 1st? I never heard that before, but willing to "buy into" the idea 😊💖
This season is bitter-sweet. Today I woke up to the 1st anniversary of my mom's passing. Last year we celebrated Christmas, and the next day we grieved. I know she's in a better place, and happier & healthy, but I do so miss her.
33 years ago my Dad passed on Dec 12th, so for years it was a sad time of year. I still miss him, but it's a softer, gentler grief. My mom was 98 and down to about 65 lbs and didn't have any quality of life. Because of this it was easier to let her go.
Spending a quiet, reflective day today.
Betty - I know that you're coming up to your sad day, too, and think of it every year. If I could reach out & give you a Gentle Hug, I would.
I just have to make it thru just 2 more days of work and I'll be off for 4 days again. I am NOT feeling good but don't want to time off sick when I have soooo much paperwork at the office to do. My office mate will be out of the office so it will be quiet and I can get a lot more done in the quiet.
I talked to Ben's case worker and asked her to see if she could find an opening at a 6 week physical therapy facility, that will give me a break and hopefully strengthen him & get him away from the egg nog! We'll see...
Oh I hope you can find a place for him Pat. I'm thinking you are sorely in need of the respite for yourself. Not an easy thing I know, But I also know how it wears you down. You can't take care of him if you don't take care of you.
Morning, a frigid day here but warming up and calling for freezing rain later today as temps warm up so I’ll not drive stateside, perhaps tomorrow, by then maybe sharon is well enough to go.
Pat I think that is a great idea, can hear it in your posts that you averdoing, looking after Ben, reno’s, getting ready for family moving in, work, not even being able to take time off when you are ill, Lordy not sure how you do it! Here is hoping caregiver can find a place even if it’s only a few weeks.
Hugs back Susan, difficult times for sure, full of memories but as you say it gets easier with each passing year.
All those totes sit eitheron back deck and basement door, was thinking with neck n shoulderpaining they can stay there for a few more days..hope I stick to my guns and not start toting them to back shed..even if I did a few each day it wouldn’t be so bad.
House looks so bare, keep thinking somethings were stored and I need to find them lol
What are you doing today?
I haven't packed any Christmas decor yet - someone recently told me that it's bad luck to take down the Christmas tree before New Year's Day!
lol as a matter of fact, Bob's putting Christmas garlands up in the bathroom, den, etc! He found some that weren't put up, so prior to putting away the decorations, he's finishing decorating lol
Betty - glad you're not driving in freezing rain!
Our temps are warmer than they were the last two years, so that's good. Last year at this time it was minus 35c / minus 31F. Today it's going to plus 6c / 21F
Quite a difference!
I usually hire a young man in my neighborhood to "be my legs". He will tote things in and out of the shed 10 x faster than I can AND I don't hurt and cost so very little! He can do in an hour what it would take me all day so THAT works for me.
I need to get in the habit of hiring my own grandkids to help them learn how to work. Not as convenient as my neighbor but would make more sense in the long run. Let them earn money AND develop a better work ethic.
I should have stayed home, I was pretty worthless at work today. Didn't get much done.
CONTRACTORS started on bathroom today. Jackhammering the cement floor to make room for the plumbing!!! he texted me this morning asking if they could start. I quickly moved trucks out of the way before I went to work.
Our contractors are spoiled rotten. They rarely get the kind of parking and convenience we can provide here. they can back up a work van & trailer within 3 feet of our front door and still have room for 2 more rigs. I congratulate myself frequently on the choice to remove all the front yard and add just flower beds and gravel. I've lived with parking for "2" and trust me, THIS IS BETTER! lol
headed to bed, good night all.
I agree, Pat - it would be nice to teach a work ethic to the grands. How nice that you have that option 💖
Good night, Pat 😊
Morning, we had freezing rain over night..roads are iffy, with high temps won’t take long to melt and sanders just went by..I decided no stateside, I’ve plenty to keep me busy so what to heck.
Will likely take a trip to Barrie, few things I would like and I haven’t been out for several days so it will do me good.
Pat great idea for sure..my grands are working or back to university..only young lad is next door but he is not too ambitious. If I take it easy amd not try to do all at one end it wouldn’t be bad..perfect time today with it reaching almost 50.
Everyone around me is sick with that bad strain of cold..Sharon says if she coughs much more she will break her ribs.
Guess I should lay back down for awhile or it will be another long day
Where were their heads???
For anyone living in our area there is no way they can NOT know temperatures we’ve had do not create ice..this lovely couple were visiting friends, took the lake by snowmobile, sank and they are no more, leaving a young daughter in grief. He is my long time girlfriends brother and sil...sad indeed

So sad to hear that Betty.
Sending prayers.
Happy birthday Dianne.
Betty - so sad. Such a tragedy & so unnecessary.
♫♪Happy Birthday, Dianne♪♫
Birthday greetings Dianne..hope you got this sunshine and 53f weather..I really should have gone stateside..did pick up lingo, went to Stacks for breakfast, so much food that I have enough for supper.
Hit 3 fabric shops, bought a few toys lol
Big add at fabricland, 60% off Xmas fabric..right, 60% off $22 to $25 a meter, mega $$$, not a wonder I want to go stateside and shop at Joann’s
and now Michael's has fabric too! Next week we'll be going to Michael's in Red Deer. Carol has asked to go to Red Deer for a Spanish bible to take to Cuba with her next month. Also asked Bob to drive her there. She has a truck, and loves to drive it, but for some reason she doesn't want to go alone, and Bob's been asked several times to drive her places. Of course Bob likes me to join him wherever he goes.
We're going bowling tonight, and then tomorrow we're having Carol & Dianne over for a turkey dinner. We have 2 turkeys, and pulled one out of the oven to enjoy it and leftovers. It's not Christmas season without turkey leftovers!!
Betty, check hobby lobby. I just got fabric for $3.00 a yard. If you buy what's on the bolt, you get 66% off. I got 10 yards for $16.00.
WOW, LK - that's one heck of a deal, when sometimes 1 yard can be $16!!!
So sad to hear of the tragic death on the lake.
I'll have to check our Michaels for fabric, THAT would get me back in thru their doors!
the sore throat that started on Tuesday has shown no signs of slowing but only getting worse! my nose is running like crazy, went thru a whole box of tissues today and my poor nose is like hamburger!
Pat, you may have strep. Better get it checked out.
Morning all, few snowflakes here and c o l d....brrr
I was up early so decided I’d cut a wedding quilt kit out for Wanneta, will save her the cutting time.
Pat feel for you, everyone I know seems to be down with same..Sharon just messaged me that her throat is a tad better today but nose is as yours.sure gets you down..they say that it last between 2-3 weeks, bad strain, at least here.
Guess I should get out and get the last of the bins in back shed before I’m tramping in 2’ of snow.
Bought fabric to do darlene’s Placemats..blocks are machine embroidered so I should set them for embroidery while I work on my quilt.
Turkey & pumpkin pie for dinner tonight! Asked 2 gal friends over. None of our three households have leftover turkey, so will send some home with them tonight, and some for us, of course lol
Heel's still giving me a lot of grief, so trying to sit as much as possible, to give it some relief. Heat helps a little, but not so much ice or massaging. Looking forward to the 8th when I see a Dr. Mine is away then, so will see a locum.
Bought some more bins for recycling paper - seperate newsprint from glossy & regular, plus of course cardboard, tin cans and returnable bottles & cans. Trying to stack the bins - need to in a small place like ours. lol Don't know what I'd do if we lived in a larger place with a basement, porch & attic!
Morning all,
Was snowing and blowing so gave up once again trekking stateside, big sigh!
Susan hope your dinner went well..
What is the weather like in your neighbourhood?
Furthest I will go is to Midland amd that is a maybe, can do without what is on my list till tomorrow, beside enjoying still being in my Jammie’s.
That being said I’m working on a quilt that I started last spring, did 2 rows and ran out of background fabric, could find same at 3 Joann’s I went to but Darlene found some, limited amount but I’m sure enough to make a half decent insert, the rest I could if I had to use border material of a dig offers to print but the method I’m doing is using 9 1/2 inch parchment paper, thought I had a roll but can’t find it, will keep looking, if not means a trip to midland if I want to continue my project.
Ziggy is driving me crazy, for some reason this year he is loving outdoors as much as indoors, I no sooner bring him in he cries to go out. Kyle spend afternoon with me,
Said when he got here Ziggy was playing with a black cat, guess he has a friend and that is why he wants out, if he isn’t at back door crying he is looking out the front window....guess it’s time to let him out.
Make sure Ziggy is fixed. He could be looking for a mating partner.
He was fixed as a kitty..likes the cold, maybe it’s part and parcel of having main coon in him..
Off to town, want to continue work8mg on my quilt, need parchment paper to do so..out8ng will do me good!
Glad Ziggy comes in so nicely, Betty. A new friend for him, eh? Nice. Sorry that you had to give up going Stateside, but you're safer at home. Glad you're able to get to working on your quilt again - bed quilt? How's your tummy?
Dinner was lovely, and now all three households have leftover turkey! Also, we have some gizzards & neck, and our friend Pat & hubby love them, too, so we're going to give them these.
This morning going to church it was snowing & blowing - a real whiteout every 1/4 mile for a 1/4 mile. Minus 14c If that's the coldest it gets, I'll be happy enough.
Did I show you my pretty that we got for the bathroom? It's a wall panel of two peacocks.
Susan that panel is beautiful.
Morning all, high of 36 today, storm moving in later this afternoon..
Yes Susan that panel is beautiful, is that where it will be displayed?
Is everyone getting ready or doing anything for New Year’s Eve/day?
Always a reflective time for me, a quiet time..am invited out tonight, big shindig for Greg’s birthday and New Year’s Eve..skating, horse and wagon rides but a tad cold for this old gal..was told I would be provided with snowmobile suit to keep me warm, we will see!
Thought mom was going to be up for New Years but Sharon tells me mom is on warpath about something. Will call her this morning but hate to do so, would like last day of the year to be without drama.
I’d stay in my mighty all day but I need bread and a few things at grocery store
Nothing going on here. We might shoot off a few fireworks in the yard. But that is it. Cold here too. 45 right now. Supposed to reach 50 today.
Cold and rain here, temps are supposed to drop overnight with the rain changing to snow. Not a good night for going out!
I'm meeting some friends for an early dinner, and hope to be home by 7pm. Plan to be in bed long before midnight!
My girls were just outside, they didn't come in with the older kids, but I didn't think much of it, right away. Went out looking for them, and they were playing in the backyard. They found the jumbo sized pack of toilet paper I had stored in the garage, and tp'd the back yard! Mixed with the rain, there's not alot I can do about it. Need to put tp back on the shopping list! And, find a better storage spot!
Omg Deb, sorry but that is too cute, what fun they must have had lol. Know no fun for you cleaning it up. Sky is heavy here, much the same as yours, suppose to warm up a bit thus the freezing rain.
Are you going to a restaurant?
I like you will likely be in bed far earlier tha the chime of midnight ..you never know, sometimes I wake up, might be in to wish everyone a happy New Year!
Played in the sewing all day, tired now, when I was at foodlanad I bought a meal, ate it early, enough for 2 meals..won’t have to cook supper, ok with me.
Happy new year Sharon. Beautiful roses.
Beautiful roses!!
Happy New Year, ladies!!
Happy New Year everyone
Quiet day here and picking up and attempting (cough cough) to clean off my desk
Considering that is Daisies place to sleep, well, she isn't allowing much.
Happy New Years everyone..actually saw the ball drop at time square..
May 2019 be the best year yet!
Betty, that's late for you.
Got a quick text from Dianne.
She is without computer or internet, something is not connecting.
Hopes to get to the computer guru this week, but her leg is still giving her
trouble. She is resting it and hope going to a doctor tomorrow.
