usually here we are either under snow, or frozen brown. This morning I walked out in a chill wind and found Johnny-jump-ups, pansies, and primroses blooming along side the hellebores and cyclamen. I also found some late starting 1 year old chrysanthemums, calendulas, snapdragons, daisies, nigella, osteopermum, climbing honeysuckle, Malva Zebrina, Malva moschata, a florist's cyclalmen that I stuck out in the front under one of the rhododendrens starting to put up blossoms, and a hollyhock out by the studio in bloom!! I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow of my beautiful little December garden!
December 1 - what's blooming!
snapdragons, roses, cassia trees, mums, petunias, pansies, all my summer pernnials are still going strong. Maybe I better not go on...grin..also still eating tomatoes, broc., caul., cabbage, lettuce, carrots.....
Nothing, it's all buried under the snowdrifts. :(
Lisa, no fair, that's cheating (grin)
I have a Malva Zebrina that is still blooming. The arums and pulmonarias are busy putting out new growth and the Lamium is growing like crazy and was recently spotted with blooms, too.
The Bergenia are growing well, but since they were very small when I planted them in the spring, I'm not expecting blooms this year.
Salvia guaranitica, pansies, violas, Malva all still going, and a few impatiens that were sheltered are still blooming.
Now in the green house.......brugs, passion vines, orchids, anthurium and jasmine. It smells wonderful when I go in there in the morning.
Forgot the echinacea and abutilon.

You lucky people you!! I think my whole garden died whilst I was away - no rain!! The hardy lantana is putting on a brave show but fading fast. It's not just my garden either. Many trees and native pine look really bad!!
Azaleas, dianthus, mexican heather, pansies, hostas, petunias and gerbera daisies. 72 degrees and sunny today. Same expected tomorrow. I'd love to see some snow this winter, though. Have to drive a little bit north for that, I expect.
Terry, you ought to post some pictures of what you have flowering. I'd like to take a peek into your gardens. :)
Hmmm, been so long since I paid much attention! LOL I have elephant head Amaranthus, dwarf yellow iris, purple and white Petunias, blue bedder Salvia, red rocket Salvia, Salvia bonfire, mina lobata, malva zebrina, lion's tail, job's tears, etc. Guess I really should look and pay them a proper acknowledgement. LOL Been busy......
Can't beleive it but I have a trollius blooming, primrose, zebrina hollyhock,my helleborus has buds, petunia, calendula, queenannes lace, and when I went to my mother-in-laws theres a surprize lily blooming and white roses!!We normally cant see the ground at this time of year and I am not complaining.
Hey CC - weird, hunh???? Did you think we'd ever see this much blooming in DECEMBER????
NO WAY! I just hope that the cold and snow that IS coming dosent kill the plants because they came out of their dormancy.Getting off the subject,I think I made a trade with you a couple of years ago on GW.You sent me a hellebours.I know it was someone in Panama. It has it's first buds.I posted a picture on photos .I bet it will wait to bloom till there is 3 feet of snow on it!!Just my luck.
our former landlady used to put a bushel basket over the H. niger so she could go out and pick the flowers - and if your's is as big as mine, you'll need a bushel basket!
Hi Kathleen,
Lots of my roses are still blooming. I noticed yesterday that I have honeysuckle, snapdragons, butter and eggs, mums, sedum, dianthus in several colors, gaillardias, and a few sheltered impatiens still blooming. This is the first time I ever remember having so many things in bloom this time of year. Isn't it delightful?
Dec. 5 update. I now have bell=flowers and nigellia blooming. The flower bed at my church has bunches of iris blooming. Wonder if it would be possible to just skip winter this year? It feels just like spring and the lawn needs mowing again. WOW!

Your hellebore sounds heavenly Kathleen - they are so beautiful!!
Here in Mich I only have a few things!

That was a very good question. It never occured to me to look at what was still blooming,Just miss all of my spring flowers. I have blooming now: camellias, sasanqua, christmas cactus,coleus,nandina(red/orange berries), purple datura, lantana, verbina, petunias, panseys, mums, shamrock, red and blue salvia, confederate rose (double pink and double white),roses, heather, vinca, one red morning glory, angel trumpets, cleome, red honeysuckel, loves-lies-bleeding(up from seedthat bloomed this year), a few azaleas, and impatients on porch. Here in Ga, I have one little daisy that is blooming and several Johnny Jump-ups and alot of my impatients(sp?) O and even some cosmo's. We are usually all brown by this time of year, kinda makes you wonder don't it?
I am not complaining though I like seeing my flowers bloomed out even if it is December!! *Ü*
The only things I have left blooming are a few snapdragons, and some allysum and Malva. I think we need to take one of Lisa's maters and throw it at Lisa and busybee for rubbing it in that they our in such a warm zone.(and still wearing shorts)lol Just teasing it would be wonderful to have such a long growing season.
Not much left here now, had a sudden leaf drop on the trees this week past. The Verbena hybrida is covered in pink blooms, Cosmos, Rose, a couple of Fuchsias, a snapdragon and a Chrysanthemum.
Sorry forgot the Jasminum nudiflorum but thats an Autumn to Spring bloomer anyway.

I guess we could just trade places with one of them. I hear by the grapevine that Lisa would give a "pretty penny" to live in TN. Nah, just kidding. I did the Louisiana bit for 12 years and was thrilled to get back to my beloved Tennessee. Tennessee is just HOME and no where else will ever seem like home to me. I love the 4 distinct changes of season that we have here.
Elena as much as I fuss about the weather here I like the seasons too.Of course now if you ask me on a day when the freeze just got a plant I really wanted to get seeds from then I might change my mind. lol
Well Mystic, looks like Lisa won't be trading places with either of us even if she would consider it. LOL Sounds like we are both quite content right where we are.
Wow! You all make me very jealous. I was totally amazed that I had one lone mum that continued to bloom through many hard freezes. But, the snow put an end to it's splendor now too. What isn't white here is pretty brown. I'm counting the days until spring.
It's been almost too nice here. Last year at this time we hung lights in below-freezing temps (thought I'd have frostbite before we got a few paltry strings of lights up.)
We spent yesterday afternoon outside in a leisurely fashion hanging our lights and enjoying the still-growing and blooming plants.
Now the lights are up, and the tender things are in the GH, so anytime Old Man Winter wants to show up will be fine (as long as his stay is fairly short - I want him GONE by March, LOL!)
We went for a walk yesterday and found one little bush putting out spring leaves! I also saw a pussy willow in bloom along side the road on the way to town - I wanted to shout at it SLOW DOWN!!!
I forgot to mention the feverfew...
........That freeze last week wiped me out.......boo hoo hoo....but, spring will come again!!
"eyes"
Here in Michigan Zone 6 I still have Roses blooming. Unbeleieveable.
Paul
I found more blooming-knautia,cornflowers,snapdragons,iceplant,pink yarrow, rudbeckiea, bachelor buttons, fernleaf bleeding heart and my favorite night scented stock. Some I forgot!
Its going to be close to 60 today! I have daffodills coming up...in 2 days it will be 39 and I think the flowers will go to sleepy then!

Y'all probably don't want to hear all that's blooming here, do you? It's still in the 80s every day.
HEHE...Floridain is bad!! DO tell everyone how nice it is, and what's blooming.
That's ok - I'm just as happy not knowing because tomorrow it will be much cooler and I will have to wake up to the fact that it IS DECEMBER and SNOW WILL FALL and you guys that can't appreciate how really weird this all is will still have a bazillion things blooming!LOL
Ah well, this thread has been fun anyway. There are not many Decembers during which I can take photos of blooming hollyhocks in my zone 5 backyard.
Hey Dori - explain to these jokers just how weird this is!!!
Mother Nature is sure smiling on us don`t you think. I also have daffodils up and forsythia blooming.
We got 5 inches of snow last night. It's definitely starting to look a lot like Christmas around here.
My little mild winter dreams are about to come to an end.Predicting 3 to 9 inches of snow tomorrow. These flowers are in for a rude awakening on Sunday morning!!
I HAVE SNAPDRAGONS AND SCABIOUSA BLOOMING POOR BABIES. EXPECTING 2TO 5 INCHES OF YUCK SNOW!
Yellow brugmansia, zinnias, princess flower, impatiens, turks cap, mums, black-eyed susan vine, and firecracker plant(?) all still doing right well. Not looking as good as spring and summer, but still blooming are roses, cleome, pink and red salvia, portaluca (sp?), Russian sage, tansy,
morning glories, plumbago, sensitive plant, jasmine, snapdragon, camilla, and another flower I don't know the name of.
Well here it is Dec 9th and I've got gailardia and ligularia's still blooming.
Everything I mentioned in the post above is still blooming. I really have a lot of roses. My simplicity roses think it is spring and my Dream Weaver climber is out of this world. I have noticed that everything is getting green again and they are trying to make their spring entrance. Frankly I wish for a nice freeze to get things back to normal as I am afraid some of them are too young and aren't strong enough to handle being knocked back again. The deep freeze will come, it is just a matter of time.
My blooming flowers woke up to 4 inches of snow this AM!
