Oh my goodness, can it be the 10th annual Christmas workshop??
We're have the years gone
We've made many wonderful treasures, don't think many of you threw them out due to frustration, at least I hope they were easy and enjoyable and step by step tutorials easy to follow
If so I'm hoping to see many of you signing up, newbies always welcome so pass on the link if you want.
I'm hoping this year our project will be a lantern but that is not written in stone..need to know approximate #'s as I'll be heading to Meaford at month's end where hopefully I will be able to purchase the electrical parts of the lantern, again only if reasonably priced and if available
I will be going to Buffalo mid November so Hooe to mail packages by then
See photo of previous workshops..had difficulties finding workshops 8
Link 9 to 9th workshophttp://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1404533/?page=1

Exciting Karen, adding you
Add me.....But I still have not done last years. O:)
I would be in for two!! I want to convince my friend to do one with me.....
Great
Debbie if you come for a visit bring it along, we will get it done
Night night
betty, don't forget myself and judy :)
Sorry, Somehow I missed this post. Is it too late to sign up? And is there a thread that has more details about the project?
No you most definitely aren't too late
Particulars aren't in place as yet as I'm trying to put the project together
Had thought of a lantern, quick/easy to do and then I bought another piece while with Debbie when we went to Meaford last week but not so sure of how it could easily be put together..
Working hard on 4 costumes, should have time to put a project together next week
Going stateside on November 18th so would mail all the kits from there
I will add your name and should after you see the project not want to participate I can take you off..
Glad you are considering it
Betty, how much do we owe you for this years project?
Got to get the project together before I know..Usually around same $$$ amount
Will post as soon as I know
Thanks for adding me Betty.
My pleasure
Now for me too get working on the project
Morning all,
Finally got all my mittens done, 2 rag quilts for my aunt, costumes for the kids, grandkids, just hours away from finishing the quilting on a quilt top sil found at garage sale for $10 (really should have left it there says me) so thought it is time to get the wood out and start doing the first one before I go crazy cutting..
Do you think large mason jars are all same size..guess I could measure how how it has to be?? Will do that shortly so haven't forgotten you
Meant to ask how you are all doing?

I will have mine in the mail Monday Are you sure $20 is enough?
Edited to add that I will only need one kit. My friend has several lanterns and isn't interested in making one.

betty did you get my payment?
Haven't been to the mail in 2 weeks, will go tomorrow..
Company just left, fed them well..had some to do's but always tomorrow
Good morning Betty!!
Am I too late to join? I just stumbled across this post and I would love to make your Christmas project.
I would like to have two if possible, so my sister and I could work on this project together.
I have an USA address, it might be cheaper then sending it to Canada.
Also do you want USA $ or Canadian $?
So excited now!!
Thea how wonderful to see you post, would love to include you and your sister in our
Workshop..imagine 10 years has gone by..
$20 can is fine
I'm just so excited
How wonderful Thea!!! Bearte will love this one!!!! (Did I spell her name right?)
Good morning Thea, so nice to see you join us!
Morning all,
This the last project & commitment I've got to finish here on DG so decided to get at it.
I use edge of board for sides of lantern, see after cutting both sides I've enough to do another set of lantern sides so looked at my stash of wood and think I can scrape just enough to send you a second kit (my Christmas thanks to you who have joined in). Please, no extra funds.....promise me you won't..
What I would like from you though is to measure how tall your mason jar is..I've checked mine, they go from 6 3/4" to 7 1/2", makes a difference where I drill..option is where I pre drill into the top casing I could leave it to you to screw in without the pre drilled, easy enough..Sooo if you have your mason jar, get that measuring tape out and let me know
From the picture you will see the set I cut out then the piece left..so used to making scrappy quilt that I'm now doing scrappy woodworking
Betty, I have both kinds of jars. So either size will work for me.
I don't have any mason Jars I will ask Norm to pick one up for me. Is there anything I should tell him specific so he gets what I will need? A photo would be a big help....
Barb, Betty's picture shows two jars, one looks like a spaghetti sauce jar, the other looks like a regular quart canning jar.
Thanks Linda. It's funny but I make my own sauce and don't can anything either!!!!
I'll have Norm pick me up a quart size Mason jar...LOL
Maybe a jar from mayonnaise or miracle whip?
That I can handle!!! Now I need to check and see if they are glass or plastic!!!! LOL
betty,
I have both sizes too
Yes, I have several sizes so whatever works for you.
Got the saws going and cutting out
As I said I will cut out a 2nd one for you all, why?? Because I like you that's why.
You will not have to do it and that is ok..what won't be sent for the 2nd one will be lights and wreath but that you can get anywhere for minimal $$$'s, think dollar store will have both when their Xmas items are on sale..
Keeping you in suspense aren't I re picture of project. Reason is .twofold, haven't got one done and 2nd is, maybe you'd not want to do one if you saw it..
Means you as well Debbie seeing it's not the one we got in Meaford..Meaford piece would be too difficult to put together if you had no tools Sooo it's easy peazy
Hoping I'll not have to use medium flat rate box but that the large bubble envelope will do..once I get state side depending on cost it may have to go into a box, not to worry
What you can decide on is
Do you want end result to be blue/green/off white or marroon or simply just stained?? (Colors provided by you..dollar store sells acrylic paint
Big decision
I will use a stain to start with, like it when edges are sanded to see a bit of stain
If you've no stain then when buying color of choice buy a brown that you can slightly dilute o act as a stain
Got me so far
on your list of 'to do's
Get acrylic paint of choice. $$$ store brand has it, but minimal choice of color so Michaels or hobby Lobby, maybe even Joanns might have more choice
Two mason jars (in case you like it enough to do the 2nd one??
1 battery operated light (makes it easier to set the lantern where you want it
Questions??
Now you have our minds wondering what it looks like.
Love that snowflake!
Due to Norm needing to go to Maine for work Monday and yesterday, my $ will go out in tomorrows Mail. Sorry it didn't go as I had planned. Please let me know when you get it.....
Will do, not a problem
Just stained my wood pieces, now have ro dry
