3/14: Release today + bug reports here

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Well..I already said my piece..there are less than a bakers dozen participating on any thread anyway...even the site updates...guess nobody is expecting much. Now that is telling.... Forgive me Baja_C and Eggs_Z for not thanking you here...I appreciate your support etc., but there is enough stroking going on with the regulars..

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Management???? WHAT management????? They seem to have left the universe and now live 35 parsects away!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I see mirrors, always bouncing your words back at you. Irresistable to stop throwing things at others when you believe you are the one above it, but still a reflection only of yourself.
Even plants die. Not happy at Plantfiles deterioration, nor Internets deterioration either for that matter. Maybe management got fired? Shrug. Notice nobody steps up to fill the gaps but those who wish to stay, everyone else comes back just to gripe as if it is a personal insult and leave again.

Baja California, Mexico(Zone 11)

Please quit the personal attacks.

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

I think I may have said something like this before, but if I am riding a bus, I would get very nervous if nobody was driving the bus. Or, if I were in an airplane, I would get very nervous if the pilot and copilot bailed out.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I got an email from a person on this site who shall remain nameless who reported to me that I had no images on ATP or the NGA. Which was good news to me. My Cubits pictures were taken by ATP without my permission, and since I don't care for any of the three sites I was pleased. I was never impressed enough by the NGA to join. I belong to the North American Lily Society because they do great work and I admire them. They are having their national conference at The Chicago Botanic Garden and I am volunteering. But I just popped into the site and it looks like ATP under a different name. And unlike this site, I find it confusing and scattered and very busy. I have trouble navigating it, and (never thought I'd say this) needs better administration so that the members don't make it what seems to me a disorganized site.

It was my impression that the message was sent to me so I could "correct" the situation by supplying images. No way.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

ATP is very easy to navigate, much like this site USED to be. However, I found/find Cubits to akin to Moses in the desert for 40 years. LOL

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Cubits was HORRIBLE!

You must be smarter than I am. I find their site really confusing!

Gotta tell you that I ADORE back to top. It's so much faster to get around when checking multiple forums, which I do all the time.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I know a lot of DG members that feel the same way about ATP/NGA, as Donna. Nothing personal but it's too much like Facebook, ges off topic really fast, it's just not my style. Regardless of what's happening on DG, I would never use ATP/NGA its just not for me. I know others love it but it's not for everyone.

I no longer have any trouble navigating DG.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

There is why I disagree.............I HATE the "back to top".. give me the "back to home" tab that used to be here.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I hear you, Anna. You have a point. I think that we should probably have both.

Interesting, 1lisac. I'm the only person I know who is not on Facebook, or Twitter, for that matter, but I know enough about them to agree with your observation.

One of the things that really bothered me about ATP is the way some gardeners would print picture after picture with no commentary about what we were seeing. There seem to be a tradition of just posting lots of your own pictures without commenting on others' contributions. My eyes would glaze over - there is very little exchange of ideas, and for me that's half the fun.

And I have a full garden now, but I think it's kind of discouraging to new gardeners when someone posts close up pictures of their 40 roses, one after another, maybe naming them, maybe not, and not explaining why this is a good or easy rose to grow, whether it is scented, whether it is thorny, whether it's an heirloom or a ground cover or what have you. Whether it's disease resistant. A picture of a flower in closeup doesn't show me the shape of a plant. Maybe a person is looking for a spreading rose, or a compact one, or a climber.

From time to time I go over to see if this has changed. So far, no.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Donna & Lisa ~ I don't use Facebook or Twitter either. I once joined Facebook about two years ago so I could comment on an article at another website. You had to be a Facebook member to comment. I didn't care for it at all, plus felt it to be invasive, so I canceled my membership after two days.

I don't care for ATP/NGA for most of the same reasons you both mentioned. Also, in addition to lots of pictures with no comments, I noticed post-after-post of nothing, but emojis with no comments. If someone doesn't have the time to type a comment, I would rather they wait till they have more time, instead of leaving nothing but an emoji.

As I've mentioned in previous posts. A couple of visits to ATP was all it took for me to know I wasn't interested. I don't see that changing in the future regardless of what happens with DG.

By-the-way, I also love the "Back To Top".

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

nutsaboutnature, that is why I HATE the "like" and "thumbs up/down" on "other" sites. It's just sending the message to me that "oh, yeah, I read your comments, but I really don't have time or want to sit down and TYPE out a comment". (ducking and running...........because I know lots of people DO like those emoticons).

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Anna,

Let's duck and run together. I think emoticons are best used as tiny little footnotes (preferably one) on the bottom of a message you write to someone close to you AFTER you complete the message, not instead of sending one. And are you like me? No texting, (unless, for example, you are driving to see someone and want them to know you have arrived, or something similar), no tweeting, and please, no sending me your chain letters instead of writing something personal and directed at me.

Those others sites do have a lot of emoticons. They make me cringe.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I have had to cave to texting, but I do not like it. Twitter...........not in this life. FB..............I hate it, but have succumbed to it somewhat, but I don't make it my life and I do NOT post pictures of what I eat daily, nor do I post a bajillion selfies.............I HATE selfies..............Yep, I know, I am just a regular old buzz-kill. I can't be the only one.........do I have company??? LOL

(Sallie) Cherry Vall, IL(Zone 5a)

Hahaha! I hate "selfies"... but here's the closest you'll see to one of me. An art piece at the Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, WI.

I did take one "selfie" of the Spousal Unit and me at the NASCAR race when we were in the stands. HE suggested I put it on FB, and I did, with the heading that I hate them and it would be the ONLY one I would ever post. LOL

Yep! I have a niece constantly posting selfies, so I made it (the 2nd photo) my profile pic for awhile as a joke... same comment... the only one of me she'd ever see.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

When I put my "selfie" on, I thought maybe someone would comment that MY comment on them was "I feel that they reek of conceit"...............Oh, wow...........Look at me, look at me..........on and on ad nauseum................You just cannot get enough pictures of me........see........see...........here I am again!!!!!!!!!!! (banging head on wall)

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I laughed out loud, Anna. I agree 100%. I sometimes ask someone to take my camera and take a picture because I need them occasionally, like for the Master Gardener list or for a column I write.

I think the selfie thing is very weird. The fact that "celebrities" take and send them all the time means nothing. Oh, and by the way, what is the deal with taking naked pictures of yourself, sending them to people and then being outraged when someone makes them public? But that's another topic.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Actually, I always remember the forum changing to "No" as soon as one thread was read. It never made sense to me, but that's how I always remember it, long before any changes were made.

(Zone 5a)

I hope someone is paying attention to the posts being flagged. Besides the comment above this, there was one with a "byrd" that should be removed. Ugh.

I don't use Facebook and you're right, "selfies" are just obnoxious. I like emoticons to make sure someone recognizes I am joking about something, but as I get older, I use them less. I used to go a little crazy with them.

(Zone 5a)

I was at the bottom of this page, when I noticed this (look at screenshot) and thought Terry was beginning to respond to the issues. Sadly, she has not been on that thread in awhile. OR could it be she did reply and we cannot see it?

I've been chuckling to myself while reading through all your posts. Maybe we're all just a bunch of dinosaurs, but honestly, I doubt I would have been much into things like selfies even when I was young.

The closest things to selfies back then were those photo booths where you'd make funny faces and get a strip of four or five (poor quality) pics. They were a kick every now and then, but not as a steady diet.

Anna_Z, I also have a deep dislike of the "Like" and "Thumbs Up/Down". You might remember a thread on DG where quite a few members were trying to convince everyone we should have the Thumbs Up/Down. I spoke out against it and I wasn't the only one. There were several others, but we were definitely in the minority. Eventually the idea "fell by the wayside"...thank goodness.

Sallie, I have to admit, though, your (unintentional?) art piece selfie is quite creative.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Chilly, the last time I got a response from Terry was when I used the Contact link to report some spam. I tried reporting it the old way, because the flags didn't seem to do anything. I actually wasn't expecting to hear from anyone, but she said they were having problems with the flags and recommended going back to using the Contact link. By the time I got her message Admin had already removed the spam.

Since that time I wrote a message about the glitch with the Tags, but haven't heard anything...so I don't know. I suppose if you haven't tried reporting spam the old way recently it might still be worth a shot.

As far as the thread in your screen shot, I have to believe if Terry posted in that thread we would be able to see her post.

I absolutely hate selfies, but when I saw that gorgeous "Reflections of Nature" piece, I couldn't resist... so, even though I was photographing all of the gardens and art pieces, I did intentionally make a selfie of that one & me :-)

I gave the contact link a try earlier today. We'll see.

They put up a notice for another fix, but not a new thread. So someone is still around.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Chilly, Re: the "bug fix" set for today - my fingers are crossed. I'm sure each one of us has our own personal favorite feature we'd like to see fixed. Mine, right now, is Community Tags. It's the one place I can find info that spans the entire time DG has been around.

(Zone 5a)

It would be nice if they shared what they are hoping to fix. I appreciated it when they did that. I've never used tags here, but when they broke I noticed a lot of people were upset. I hope for you and the others' sake it is fixed.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

THE TAGS ARE WORKING!!! THE TAGS ARE WORKING!!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

OMG...are you serious! I'll be right back I have to go check!

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow! Wow! Wow!
I only checked maybe half a dozen tags, but they seem to be working. I've mentioned this many times before...Tags are one of my absolutely favorite features on DG!

What a great week...the Hummingbirds finally showed up yesterday (over a week late) and now Tags are working! Oh Boy...I'm doing a HAPPY DANCE!!

Thanks Terry, Melody, Alison and Techs!!

I am assuming this is not a high priority, and I'm also assuming the Powers that Be are aware..... but within Plant ID and possibly other forums where we had the "Solved" option.... it is gone.

davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/527799

It is nice to have this function so one knows which threads are basically "closed" / solved.

Donna -- I ventured away from this thread a while back, and I just read this comment... so I popped over. also found the ATP link did not work and when I googled it, I was taken to Garden.com

I hate change. My subscription runs out here tomorrow, still not sure if I will continue to pay for a site that really does not care about its subscribers/members. Time will tell.

I never got too involved in cubits or ATP as this site was my home.... enough ramble.... I guess nothing ever stays the same..... and that is too bad.

Terese

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

It's not that I hate change - I just hate bad change.
Yes, Cubits went to ATP and now ATP is, what Garden.com? Thanks for letting us know, folks.

This site has been my home since 2002. When I google Daves Garden donnamack Dave's Garden I get tons of stuff. I lost a backup hard drive with images on it that I was actually able to retrieve and download from Dave's by clicking on images. And for that alone (I realize it's really personal) I will always be grateful. Whatever the issues, I never hesitate to re-up (but everyone isn't me, and I can understand why others leave). It gives me much of the history of my development as a gardener. And I'm a crazy passionate gardener, and there is a place here for me. I can't begin to recount how many people on this site have sent me beautiful plants and gorgeous seeds and refused even postage! (I insisted). How cool is that?

I thought Cubits was awful. I didn't like ATP. I never had much respect for the National Garden Association. Being able to retrieve threads I wrote over ten years ago, as well as pictures, means that I will always be here. I do find it interesting that some of the adherents to the other sites keep coming back here and posting, at least in dmail to me. As though I need to be led to enlightment. Please!

I noticed that the other day after I received an ID of a plant I posted. I thought it was just me... not able to find the button/link to mark it solved. I edited my original post to indicate that it was solved, but we definitely need to be able to be able to mark it.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I thought I was just not seeing it, but I guess it is temporarily not there.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

The closed thing hasnt been there for months but just yesterday I noticed IDs marked closed so it might be working again.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey everybody..."Closed" is now working again on at least two (and probably on all three) of the ID forums...YAY!!
Chillybean reported it on the PHP Upgrade Thread just a little while ago.

Donna, I know I keep repeating this (over and over and over), but I'M STAYING RIGHT HERE. DG IS HOME!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Nuts...if you read the post just above yours it was actually me that mentioned it. I noticed it last night. : ) Things are definitely looking up!
