Debra Wonderful !!! All ready for Spring Indeed !!! BIG Sigh
Gypsi I do not have the tiny zinnia . I will have to see what grows this time
Plant Propagation: The Basics January 2016
Somewhere I answered Gypsi the organza is to help control shield bugs, since I live near Hearne- the ex? Sunflower capital of Tx. Also the 2 tomatoes I plan to grow are indeterminate open pollinated and I dont want them to mix. Hopefully that will help. I also plan to put em in a bucket, so dreamin up a way to get 12' of organza dressed plants a trellis sturdy enough to work. I like the bubbler shelf...
Yes, Gypsi helps take care of the bug population. Chickens love bugs. Didn't you know that? Chickens know bugs are good protein that make good eggs. Nice orange yolks. Have you all noticed how mixed up this site is? I really do think Alison and the rest of them want us to leave. Are we trying to wait them out, or what? Have you guys noticed the message at the top of each thread from Innernet Brands? Well read it, if you haven't.
Robin, Gypsi, and the rest of you, where are you? Go ahead and read that. Jen
Lol Jen, I read it. Guinea Fowl are good bug eaters too, I wish I could have a couple but I like my neighbors.
Who's Allison?
Allison is the one who wrote to us from in Brands or whatever it is. Didn't you read it? It is at the top of every new thread. Altho, we haven't had a new thread on here in so long those eggs that Glypsy put in the 'bator are probably laying eggs by now.
I answered this once but don't know where it went. No wonder we don't start any new threads on this forum. jen
See it at the top when you click on Back to Top. Try it and see what she said Robin.
Oops Jen, I had forgotten who signed the message. I haven't lost any posts (knock on wood), I have caught myself not hitting 'post reply' a couple of times though. Regarding eggs, I always understood the darker yolks came from the amount of feed corn the chickens ate...but then again, unfortunately, I have not raised chickens.
I like your bubbler shelf too Deb, it was a great idea and looks like you're ready for some major propagating. Your she cave is the next best thing to a greenhouse...have dirt, will play. What's better than that. Deb, have you checked in with Patti lately, she had a really bad fall.
I'm feeling this winter weather is not consistently cold enough for winter sowing. The warm periods would surely start the germination process prematurely. I haven't felt brave enough to get mine started.
I was planting a few viola Swiss Giants , and skippy , Started raining ,, soo back in here I am ,
47 , windy and cold
Are those Viola Swiss Giants annual or perennial Ju? So sorry the rain chased you inside, yesterday was nice and lured me out to tour my gardens.
Says their usually half hardy annuals ,in a way their a lot like a snapdragon , only smaller flatter usually ,
I have a Hybrid I bought out front , their trying to grow new growth actually every time the temperature comes up near 20 degrees they start growing
I have seen Swiss Giants blooming in February here ,, Need the shade and cool places in summer ,, Think Iceland poppy
They do like the cooler temps. I'd always classified Pansy as annual and Viola as perennial in my zone 6a. Pansy has a larger showier bloom with more face patterned, vibrant colors. Viola gives more for the planting buck, plant it once and enjoy for years. (my lazy style, lol). Because they're both from the Viola family, the difference confuses some people. I just wanted to make sure the picture in my head was accurate...I rely heavily on my visualization.
Internet Brands, Jen, that's who DG bosses are. Its the same msg so we have a banner alert for site changes in the future. It means we can sign in to ANY Internet Brands site with our DG login and password apparently.
Too hot for any but winter plantings of you guys summer plants...14 days to get home. So ready.
All the same to me Kitt. So, what you are saying is they use the same banner and change what it says from time to time? That is why people miss things. They quit reading what the banner says. Once you've read it, why read it again? What do you mean by ANY internet Brands sites? What kind of sites do they have that we should look at? jen
I was sleeping thunderstorms and wind howling woke me up . it is 60 degrees temperature went up after sunset long while since that has happened .
Wind is 40 to 50 mph ,, and it is raining cats and dogs ,,
be interesting to see what this does to the plants ...
Oh my gosh JU, man I could go for that. It is 22 degrees here now. They are saying we are going to have snow tomorrow. I just told Bob it was getting cold in here and he looked at the thermometer and said 22. No wonder you are planting things. Do you really think it is not going to get cold again? I hope you're right.
Don't take a chance on those kittens, leaving them out at night. I don't trust Ole man winter. Kitt' is getting after me for not keeping track of all the posts out there so I invited her to go roller skating with me. LOL, so far she hasn't taken me up on it. I should have said the dates of all the posts on here. Oh well. This computer has about driven me crazy. Should get off of it I guess. ttyl, jen
oh you use the bubblers to get humidity around the specific plants on the shelf?
on my tidy cat bucket project I've picked up 8 or 9 so far - hope my tomatoes do better this year.
Gypsi Hoping the tomatoes do better this year , as do we all
Jen , Kitts got the Key tell Kitt you have a brand new pair of skates ,,,lol
Zoooooooom !!! lol
Patti, are you ok? Robin said you took a bad fall? I looked back and couldn't find any post from you for a bit, tell me how bad it is. Did you have the dr. check you out?
Come on, give us an update. We are worried about you. Jen
Jens' key is broken. She can't see the dates or times, and has missing posts that I can see just fine. Apparently she can't see links either. I still suspect her computer has issues. 7 of these pages and my paginator isnt working to jump me 7 pages- just to 'next'. Colder tonite, but wind has slacked off a bunch. Any colder and I will be grabbing warmer socks. Glad I am SO not in Ks! Is Colorado catching the snow as well?
OK Kitt, I read that. I did NOT see a time on your thread other than 2 min. ago. So, 2 min, ago from when? I have never seen those change even tho it is hours later. YOu think my computer has issues, well, I will reboot it and see if that helps. I dropped it a couple of times and the damned things don't like that.
But, that has nothing to do with the fact that you don't want to go skating with me. I think you think there is something wrong with my head. Nope, checked it, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 1 nose, 1 mouth, a chin, OMG didn't I miss something? Nope, here it is, a wrinkle. Found it. Whehw. Almost lost it. I am trying to find Patti. Robin said she took a bad fall. Guess I have to ask Robin. ttyl, if this computer will allow it. jen
Talked to Patti, she is okay, just gimping around, she has been sleeping a lot as it is cold here and all..
Jen, I have no problems seeing that you posted 42 mins ago, and could imagine Kitt rollerskating with you..
Ju, it went from 70 to 27 in 24 hours here, kinda sick of the up and down, was home sick today so didn't get much done. I love my buckets.. anyway, a few more seeds in cups and a seed tray started..oh and a new method of propagating I am trying, cutting in vermiculite and in a tied up bag..last pic is for Jen... cheery! Just because I was home today, Joe decided to have two different contractors over to give us their bids.. neither of them are including the concrete and patio so far, I guess that will be a cement guy.. *sigh* Installing ten Ibeams means everything in my west side grow rooms will have to be shoved clear on the other side they will be working in and partitioned off with plastic so the dust from them drilling the cracks won't smother the plants. oh I hate this stuff.. now back to being cheerful..
Debra About to do something like that here Debra , About to fall to 25 degrees . Their not right with the forecast , because 48 is suppose to be the high today , it is 61 degrees right at the moment ,, lol
Plants always delight with colors and blooms , but if your growing them indoors or in pots ,, The minute anything is " Goes Wrong " You are more aware of it ,,
Hope the I Beam does well for your Basement ,, This place needs a few also ..
Liked all your little greenhouses Deb, your almost as good as Ju about the recycling/reusing. Pretty Ipomea, I haven't seen one with purple striping before. When are you expecting the basement work to get started
I'm so glad to hear Patti's getting better, thanks for letting us know.
Well, here is the norm. I know it is not happening to just me. But, I posted a fairly long one here about a half an hour ago and just as I signed off, I lost it. I know you all know the frustrations I am feeling. So, tomorrow I will try again.
But JU, I just wanted to say, that Debra was talking about 10 (ten) I beams. Not one. but 10. That to me means they are having to level the entire house. Right Deb? So sorry. Also means practically a whole new mortgage. That is awful. Will write tomorrow. Jen
It's 4:39 AM CST
The cats just woke me up. Tucker wanted out. I'm going back to sleep in a few minutes, I hope. Yes, my ex is a chiropractor. I really banged myself up but didn't break anything. It really messed up my working on the paperwork so I still have hours of work in front of me. I've discovered I need to revamp the way I have things organized. Everything is taking about four times longer than I think it should.
I have not been posting anywhere. They are supposed to be making these changes for mobile users. I am using a two year old iPad. I tried writing in a day or two or three ago, I think on the back porch thread, and lost it.
It was great talking to Debra yesterday. Thank you for the call sweetie.
Thanks to all of you for thinking of me. I think of you guys often and I will start posting again. I just don't know when. I have cut up jugs in the basement but I have not put a single seed in dirt. Too much to do, too little time, zero energy. Hugs to you all.
Patti
LOL! Jen, I am skating after you as fast as I can! Picking up hints from you on 2 different threads why you are a ghost on Back Porch! I can show you a drawing of MY cellphone DG pages. And sent you a dmail link to the new month.
Every single box is an embedded link shortcut to places on DG. Home takes us to the old style page we called Home. I know some folks have this customized with favorite places. This I used Plant Propagation thread. If you have posted to a thread, or the 'eyecon' reads UNWATCH you are watching that thread. FORUMS takes you to a list of active forums, watched forums, etc. Propagation takes you to one single Forum.
My paginator fails at the 7th page- I can only advance one page of posts at a time by using NEXT, until I drop to the last 5 or 6 pages of posts. BACK TO TOP takes me to page One first post on the same thread. Then hit Home to see all forums, or the little light colored propagation link to see other threads on PROPAGATION.
None of this explains why you are missing the posts with links in them.
Some of the issues aren't DG site problems. Slow load, incompleted loads, hanging or frozen posts are INTERNET issues. Reasons are many- overloaded satellite uplinks, storms between you and satellite, satellite positions, techs fighting hackers and cleaning repeater posts, techs tweaking the glitches that make links fail or posts not open up, Giving us easier site manipulation.
Went to edit and forgot what I meant to add. Drat.

Jen I was saying the overall I-Beam work , as in EYE -Beams , Structure steel used to reinforce , Looks like a Capital Eye from the end ,
Off to do errands and things .
My plant jugs look to be all together still outside ,. later i will return .
Patti good to hear from you , take care of yourself ,
You too Kitt ... There is a bunch of me driving around you today ,,
Thanks for checking in Patti, I hope things get back to normal soon for you...
Drive safe everybody, I'm sure those 4-wheelers that deserve it, gets rightfully cursed.
Jen, what would you say about writing your posts in another program like Word? Select all, copy and paste, you'd never lose them that way. It must be incredibly frustrating.
I use notepad instead of word for posts that are long and I need to paste into an email or forum system. Word puts in too much garbage (hidden format stuff). Wordpad or notepad are pretty clean, and you can save as rich text files if you want to have some limited formatting
You're absolutely right Gypsi, Notepad adds zero formatting junk code, Word is loaded with it.
I was thinking to say Debra has as good of re use of material or better as I Hers seems to make plants , and make plants , and make plants ,, Hmmmm Gardener jealousy ...lol
She's really good at making plants Ju, I can tell by her green basement (no pun intended).
Hi Guys, first of all, I am honestly shocked at all the stuff Kitt seems to think I am going thru.
"None of this explains why you are missing the posts with links in them.

Why in the world does she think I have all these problems? I am losing posts just like others on here say they are. And maybe the Backporch has more than other forums, I don't know. Yes, there were more issues back when the site was first being "manipulated", and we were all getting used to the changes. But, all of us had those problems. Don't know, just shaking my head. jen
BTW JU, did you get the article I sent you the other day on making planters etc. out of hypertufa? I was reading a magazine or something and it fell out. Thought might be interested since you were playing with that stuff last fall before the weather got too iffy. My daughter and I messed around with it a couple of years ago when she was here visiting. But we had such a short time when you have to wait for it to dry etc. that, if I remember, we didn't get them done before she had to leave.
I copied that for you and sent one to her too. Maybe this next summer I might mess around with it a bit. jen
Jen is it in the e- mail or floating around in the real world ? Have not had time today
Should be in your snail mail JU. Bob said it was just a couple days ago so probably still in the saddle bags. jen
i.e. Bob took them to the post office a couple days ago. My daughter hasn't said anything about getting hers either and she is in Seattle. Across the mountains from here. Maybe an avalanche has it. jen
I have been doing a few things today ,, running down ,, Found mingles a home but he went and hid while the opportunity was here ,,
I will watch for that Jen ,, Thank you , The pots I made this past summer and fall are all still together and working so far ,
Did several errands today ,,
Good for Mingles. let them have the Calico but that is the female right? Why would they want a male? Well, you had them all fixed so as far as I am concerned now, they are all the same.
I had no doubts but what your pots you made last summer would be just fine, but thought you might be interested in the one I found in the magazine. Probably the same recipe etc. Honestly, I didn't even read it all the way thru. Next summer we will have to make them together, long distance. >smile< would be fun to see how they come out that way. ttyl, jen
