That's some odd symbology. I pasted smiley faces in there...

Nice tree, just begging for some red ribbons or something.
Thought you were studying a new language!
Esperanto never took off, but Emogi is the new international language.

Maybe I should just go back to being a curmudgeon - don't need any emogis for THAT...

VV jaded and grumpy? Hmmm, we all have our days, thanx for the needles, chuckl, what new pincushion is to be discovered?

VV, what conifer is that in your last photo set?

I'll go back and add identification, but the December 1 tree is Picea koyamae and the December 2 tree is Tsuga caroliniana.

Both plants are in the Shawnee Park pinetum (conifer collection). This Olmsted-designed park was originally planted in 1893, and there are a handful of mature Pinus strobus and midlife Picea abies.

We performed a rejuvenation of this collection in 2014 - installing more than 60 new plants - using mainly 8-9' specimen trees of a very broad range of species. After two good moist growing seasons sandwiched around a pretty severe winter, these trees are coning quite well. We lost one fat old Abies koreana, and just had severe deer rub damage on a Larix decidua.

This Carolina Hemlock was the moose in the bunch, weighing in at 12' - soaking wet.

Is the Tsuga caroliniana the one getting wrecked by the wooly adelgid in the Appalacians? Got pics of your new plantings? It sounds like a pretty cool project.

Here is a previous thread on this particular planting project:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1360200/#top

It started out as an opportunity to determine identities of many different conifers, morphed into a critique of growing practices, and rounded out with a discussion of plant production techniques - and adult beverage consumption.

Lots of images there, and many more could be provided since that thread ended.

Here is another post that investigates a lot of different conifers, based on the collection of the State Arboretum of Virginia (Blandy Experimental Farm).

Another posting related to the Shawnee Park pinetum planting - a case of mistaken identity.

Here is another rumination on a nearby conifer collection - you'll see that many species are cross-represented.
