All around goods news Sharon..
Bet it's nice having Vern home with you..
When will you leave on your vacation?
Worse today? driving out of Washington we heard a bang, oops we had a flat
Best? Manage do get to side of roadway, wasn't there a packet..a couple biking (early 40's)
Stopped, helped us unload the car, he changed to tire for the spare, she called around
And found a tire shop nearby, gave us directions...we couldn't thank them enough
They said by helping us they would get it back twofold
Young Mexican fella looked at the tire and said because I had to run on it to get us off the
highway he couldn't put a plug in it. Put another on, didn't charge us for the change over
What did I learn today? Still kind people in this world!
Night night
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends new/old
Wow Betty, you found three of the last nice people in the US. You are totally lucky and blessed.
Yes, there are still kind people in the world.
A high school friend of mine insisted I meet him for lunch today. We talk on line now and then, Not as often as usual.
Walked in, he had another high school buddy of ours with him so had a good time Then he hands me a box.
He had an "extra" camera that he didn't need and gave it to me. Mine is broken and they don't know if they can fix it. He saw me post on line about it....so surprised me. I do not believe it is an "extra" though because is in perfect packaging with everything!!! He also made a few
wood trinkets that he does with wood working. A true treasure!!!
I was totally shocked...but as you said, still a few good people left in the world.
Sharon - thank you for the "sweet individual" comment - so awfully nice of you to say.
Yes, I'm knee-deep in unpacking.
Day before, and yesterday I was finding broken items while unpacking. I sent a very nicely worded email to the supervisor of our packing/moving company, mentioning that it had been 8 days since I last heard from him, and was hoping to get this resolved. Yesterday he replied and said that after the long weekend he will contact me, to which I replied "I appreciate your timeline for contact, and hope this may be a timeline for resolution as well." I also mentioned that some of our packed goods are in storage and I do not know what damage may be in those boxes, but if he wished I (who am physically unwell with my bad knees), I could have someone help me unpack the stored items to see what damage may be hidden there.
I think I worded it quite nicely - implying that if he settled this more quickly, I wouldn't have time to find more damage from the packing. I resent all the previous damage and poor packing pictures, as well as new damage/breakage I found. Now I'm finding broken dishes from poorly packed items.....
It's been over 3 weeks since the packing & moving, so I think it's way overdue for resolution.
My daughter keeps advising to take the gentle and sympathy route, so I'm doing my best.
And my daughter should know - after all, she's a paralegal in a real estate firm.....
She says to give them until mid-week to address all the damage, etc etc etc. (found a used mousetrap in our packed goods...... and that's just the tip of the iceburg).
Always be cautious of someone complaining quietly. There are the ones that will kill you.
I am off to bed. And you should check all of your boxes. You will be amazed how incompetent moving people are.
lol yeah, I'm one of the quiet ones......
The storage unit is in another part of the city, and I'm not able to get some of the stuff up high - just too little a person. Therefore, my comment about getting someone to help me (to the moving company).
Morning all,
Debbie that brought a tears to my eyes, know how much you enjoy taking photo's, your stress release, how giving is he..what kind of wood projects?
Susan, you must be beside yourself,here is hoping he keeps his word and calls
Rita still sleeping, Linda is up, said " I thought you said we could sleep in today". Hello, lots to do today and travel miles as well.....by the time we get ready,car packed,eat we will be at Gettysbrrg memorial park for tour and 360 then make our way north..if we find the Renaissance Faire to our liking it will take most of the afternoon, add in the large Xmas store and hoping to get to Buffalo, well must get moving..so far they haven't called me drill sergeant as in other years Lol
Enjoy your day
So glad you're having fun, Betty!
I've been a busy girl, so had to take quite a long time to read and catch up. Hugs to you all and a good luck to Lorna.
We've had a couple of nice low humidity days, but it's to get up to 90 today. I have so much garden work (read weeds) to catch up on! I can't take the heat as in previous years and especially can't take the sun. So it will be shade chasing for me today!
Hope you all have a lovely Sunday....
Debbie, that was so nice of them to give you the "extra" camera.
Betty, enjoy the rest of your trip, and please drive safely. So glad to hear you had help with the flat tire.
oh no, not beside myself - I'm too big as it is........ don't wanna double myself lol
We're off to church today - looking forward to see my dear friends
Wonderful day at the 'FESTA ITALIANO' .. food, dance, music and tons of people, but, not a crushing mob .
Home now and just enjoying a wonderful day .. Karen seems to have gotten our wind, and, in a MAJORLY big way !! stay safe ..
Betty .. hope the trip home is uneventful and fun .. glad you had a Knight in Shining Armour show up to help you ..

Enjoy your day everyone.

I'm having work done on my house, they're supposed to start today, I really wish I could be there, but someone's got to pay the bills! Today he starts with the painting, there are 3 huge blue spruces that are quickly dying (I was told by one tree guy that they had reached the end of their life cycle) that are being taken down, then a new roof. The house will look completely different, with all the work done. I"m really sad to lose the trees, there's one right outside my bedroom window, I can lay in bed and just look up through the branches. I'm going to miss that. My brother was supposed to be back from vacation to "keep an eye on things" but they've been delayed and won't be home until tomorrow. I've gone over everything with my contractor and he knows what to do, still just wish I could be home instead of working, while this is going on. The dogs are going to be going crazy!!
Morning all,
Going out for breakfast, bit of shopping then homeward bound
Not raining now but apparently had a wicket storm, possible tornado someone said
Likely clean up of branches will be in my plans tomorrow
Rita said it was quite cool out
Gals already talking about when we will be back in Buffalo for a weekend. Lol
Gab when I get home
Let's hope you are pleasantly surprised when you get home tonight and yes sometimes leaving them can be a nightmare..sure wish there was someone who painted and was reasonable..what all are you having done?
Drive safely Betty.
The roof is the main thing I wanted done, and I knew the spruce trees had to come down, because they are dying, not too many needles on one, and the other two have lots of dead branches, probably more dead branches than branches with needles. When negotiating for the roof, the contractor offered to add in work on my gutters, which have some leaks, and have peeling paint. Said he'd repair and paint the gutters and trim, that he had a friend who did trees, who would take them down, plus doing the roof for $9,000, and he came in 1000 lower than the next bid which was for only the roof. The lowest bid I had gotten on the trees was $1700. This contractor was the "team lead" when the roof was done at my mother's house, that my brother runs his business out of, and he did a good job there, so I'm hoping this goes well, too.
Have been online looking at the 'storm pics' .. chewawa .. awful .. sure hope no one was injured ..
Lorna hasn't spoken with her parents as of yet, I'm letting her sleep in .. besides, DH wakened with a really bad headache .. which is unusual for him .. he can't seem to get shed of it .. so, am watching him like a hawk ..
Wondering how Katie is doing .. I assume she left Mexico?
Sharon, how is Vern doing ? Hope you are well too, and the furries ..
Dianne .. is the stormy weather up your way too ?? We just have wind, again, non severe, just enough to blow around stuff that isn't weighted down .. the chimes are all dinging ..
Akkkkkkkk Deb .. my condolences on the loss of those trees! Blue Spruce are SO beautiful .. gosh, dontcha wish they didn't have a 'best before' date !
I watch the evergreens blow in the wind from the bedroom window .. mesmerizing ..
I know you must feel uncomfortable re leaving your fur babies .. hope it all works out, the changes will be wonderful ..
Your brother likely was held back a day by weather related stuff .. did he enjoy the Giant :-)
Betty .. your trip went so quickly! Gosh, blows my mind !!
Just glad all is well ..
So many people MIA on the thread, but,, thought of fer sure ..
Waving at .. Bev, Barb, Debbie, Mary, Marion, Katie, Sue, Susan, Linda, Jean, Joyce, so many, and, ALL wonderful too ..

I have been on DG since 2008, and so many have left for one reason or another. Most are on Facebook, but not the same.
I'm still here. Some days I am chatty and others not. I pray for all of you every day and try to remember birthdays but sometimes slip up. I don't try to respond to every post anymore as I just can't seem to keep up. So when a thought hits me - here I am.
~~~~~waving to all......
Barrb
Hello and good day!
Yikes, I have been in an emotional turmoil for a while.
Betty glad your having fun, trying to keep up in between all the chaos, just haven't had time to post, I might appear to be lazy! will explain some other time.
In the meantime...
We have arrived in Hot Springs South Dakota.
Today, going to our first Concert, camping over night. Just about ready to head out.
Debbie, great big armwraps, what a wonderful 'extra"
M, Armwraps for you re: Smokey.
Linda Kay, copied Joe's location, we will probably do Sturgis Tomorrow, so will go give him that Armwrap from mom, wink!
SUE: Happy Birthday Sistah! Hope your having fun on your vacation.
Alright a comment already made about me on computer, sigh.
Love to all.
Happy Birthday, Sue!!
awwww losing trees is quite a change to the homestead, for sure. Glad the rest of the work is getting done - very nice.
Waiting my turn to do the laundry - Bob's doing it now.
Grace & Robert had us over for dinner last night - homemade Chinese food - boy, it was good!
Today Bob's trying to install the countertop and having some "issues"...... it's a tiny space and getting it put together and then in is more difficult than he thought (join it then around corners to get it in and installed, etc)
Good luck to Bob on the counters.
Judy, Joe said it is packed with people. I hope you have reservations somewhere.
Evening all
Home safe and sound
No rain at all, mom said it was quite stormy last night, I will be picking up branches for sure for a few days
Oh Judy how much fun is that, glad you are enjoying yourselves
Oops, be right back, mom is hungry
Glad you are safe and sound. Get some dinner and rest. We will be waiting for updates on the trip with pictures.
Glad you are all home safely Betty. It sounded like a great but tiring trip.....
Happy birthday Sue, you should be home shortly I imagine..hoping your visit with your dad is going well...
Would have Sooo been in bed sleeping but Missy went out about 7:30 and mom was fretting..told her she would come back but no go, mom had to wait until she came back so I stayed up..
Linda called, the storm yesterday took down her entire back yard fencing..mega damage, not great to come back to
Going to try this sleep thing
Girls come tomorrow and mom going home so a busy day
Glad to see you home Betty ..
Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sue .. guess she is on the west coast ..
Gordon has had 'the flu' for a day now .. vomiting, and a huge headache ... not sure what will happen today .. I worry as he is diabetic .. controlled by oral meds .. and .. he has eaten nothing ..
The temps all this week will be in the mid to high 60s !!! Quite the change ..
Crackers "M" - that is the only thing that worked for Norm when he was sick. He, too, is diabetic and would force two crackers so that he could do his insulin. Worked with no issues.
We are still sweltering here with temps in the 90s. Not unusual in August. Just very uncomfortable for me. Must stay inside with AC.
Still knitting and sewing purses. Have almost all my Christmas done for the girls in the family. Think the guys are getting new wallets.... Each will have a gift card tucked inside.
Sending prayers to all in need and hoping those not feeling well or in pain get relief soon.
Sure wish I could send some of this heat your way "M" 60 sounds nice.
Hooray - the counter is installed, and the sink is set in - now, for plumbing to be hooked up. The dishwasher was installed, but there's a leak at the join - Bob will see what happened, tonight, and hopefully hook up the plumbing for the sink
Yeah!
:-)
This is one happy chick!! Now at least I can put a deep pan in the sink to wash dishes, and have a place to put appliances.
Happy Birthday, Sharon!!
Best wishes and hopes for a fabulous birthday Sharon :-)
Sending you cool northern breezes and warm hugs ..
I am dog cookie baking today as the oven can be on without worrying about the heat .. so far, I have made 10 dozen cheese, and, am scoping out a new peanut butter recipe ..
Hooray for countertops Susan .. enjoy ..
Barb, will send you some northern breezes as well ..
DH had some cheerios and juice .. has kept it down, so, fingers crossed this was a 24 hour thing ..
