It is going to be quite at your place.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

"pin", Marilynne? I lost that pin among all the packing stuff, a long time ago LOL
Lorna? stubborn? Who'd a-thought it............ Sorry to hear about her dad, and taking 1 hour to lift him should have told him that this is not something that his wife should have to be doing.......
When I can't get up, I roll to the nearest piece of furniture that's stable, and pull myself up (usually a couch or appliance) and that's the easiest way. Sometimes when Bob's not available or he just isn't enough, that's what I have to do.
Yikes - temps in the 100's....... don't think I could do it anymore. Used to have to in Winnipeg, but then it was a humid heat......... here it's dry and more temperate. It's hot when it's 85!
awwwww Karen - you'll both get used to it, after another month........ but in the meantime, I know what you mean - very quiet around there......
No, the oven isn't self-cleaning - the one in the mobile is......
btw - went to Marcel & Carolyn's yesterday - talk about minimalist homes! And they don't want a stick more of furniture - I couldn't live that way at all!! They'd be able to fit their stuff in our place for sure lol Wish we could trade! Marcel had asked me to look at his place while they're gone in the UK - Carolyn had left the coffee pot on, and it was baked black because their pot doesn't auto shut off.......I took it off the burner, unplugged it, sat it for 3/4 of an hour while I visited with Bud across the road. Then I washed the pot and the sink. Not the best of housekeepers is Carolyn........ and I'd think it would be easy with as few things in their house as there are. But, they made plans to go visit family in the UK at last minute (literally - decided one day to go the next), so she didn't do laundry, or dishes, or anything.
Bud & Norma offered to store our piano in their garage, so that's a relief! (If we can't sell it). I know we won't be able to sell it - people are downsizing nowadays. They never use their garage to park their car - too much work for Bud to get in and out of it cuz he stores his scooter in it, and likes to putter around inside as a workshop (while he sits - he's very handicapped).

M I know Lorna's dad wouldn't want this to happen as I am sure his pride would be hurt but my mam was in the same situation a few times. Once dad could not get out of the bathtub. Mam went down to the construction site and got a few men to lift dad. They lifted him out and left. Mam had to go back and ask them to help dad out of the tub. After that she would call a 911 number... it wasn't the actual 911 but was more of a help line and whoever was free be it EMS, police and fire men/women. Maybe they have such an alternative for Lorna's dad.

Pups had another party today and didn't invite me. I didn't know who was the instigator as all 3 of then had ripped newspaper in their mouths. I had the recycle by the door and they liberated some of the papers.Diesel prefers magazines.

Quite the wind out there now but it is still very humid.

Understand completely about not doing too much to get a meal on the table in this heat Barb. Yesterday was what I called our 'deli' day. Lots of cold meat and salads. Warren who considered himself a 'deli' guy so was heart broken when his kidneys started to fail and he couldn't have his fav cold meats.

So happy to read Betty is having a blast.

Jean if you lived closer and I lived closer to Owen Sound on Sat we could have gone to see and hear Jonny Lang and Colin James. I'll just listen to their CDs and get my fix that way.

Guess I should look to see what we can do tonight for entertainment

Sorry to hear about Lorena's dad
Karen, know. It saddens you to have a quiet house once again

Ohhhh guess who forgot her drivers license and bank card I at hotel in nyc

Raining heavy on our way into town, clearing..know there up is no rest for the wicked
Barb, don't blame you for standing out
Smiling, Dianne you sure have a time of it with the furries

That would have been sweet Dianne. Pretty much all I have done since May is spend time at the Nursing home with MIL. I am so looking forward to seeing DD, SIL and the Grands for a couple weeks. DH and I absolutely need a break.

Big time Thunder and lightning moving through and lights are blinking...take care, stay cool and have a sweet evening.

Waving Hi to you all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How are you going to get your card and license Betty?

Glad to hear you are all having fun!

Dianne, sounds like you need to tie up the papers?

Jean, keep your mother in law in our prayers. How is she doing?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks LK. She needs all the support she can get. She will do nothing to help herself and pretty much fights everything done to try and help her. She chooses what she want to remember, I guess, cuz if it goes against what she wants, she gives you a blank stare.

Sorry the whole situation makes me crazy and I forget things my Mom insisted on...I can't think of anything nice right now to say, so I need to just say thanks and I do so appreciate your prayers.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I'm with LK and everyone else Jean .. it is a tough row you have to hoe .. just take it one day at a time, and, know we are thinking about you and you M in L.

Good question re the drivers license and debit card .. will they courier it ?
Nice picture of Philly .. in honour of you, I made a strawberry PHILLY cream cheese coffee cake .. had 4 cups of strawberries to use up ..

B I G boo boo on the cemetery today :-(
One of the 2 young fellas who do the grass and trimming (OTHER than Lorna's beds) trimmed, SCALPED all the beds /.. another fella was to have been monitoring him, but, he didn't watch well enough .. by the time she looked, Taylor had buzzed off 9 of her beds !!! She is sick about it .. as is the boss ..
Hopefully the Horticultural Society won't some to visit this holiday weekend !!

Ohmigosh Dianne .. hope it wasn't too big a mess !

Time to go bunkies

I sincerely hope the young man was given a talkin to.(((Lorna)))

The papers were tied and in a plastic grocery bag. There were several bags. The boys had shredded paper in every room but the 1 I was in.

Today I went and visited a gal whose kids worked for me in the SG business. Kids are in their 30's with families of their own.. She has major health issues - a few years ago she had the flesh eating disease - she is a diabetic, no gluten, plus, plus... She has severe allergies so coming here to visit it out. We both had lots to talk about..

The boys just had their nightly zoomies and are lined up to get a srink.

Had supper, mquite unusual, fantastic using a retired ship as a restaurant

Jean, you must be totally exhausted..family visiting are from Australia right?
Sad that you have to content with mil during their visit.

Oh no "M" can't even imagine how Lorna must feel

How is your mouth doing Dianne?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I know Lorna must be livid? Will they grow back, or does she have to buy all new plants?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning :-)

LK .. the flower beds themselves are ok .. the young lad scalped down the grass around the beds to the ground .. Lorna had perfect edging and height around all her beds, and, poof, gone ..
He was spoken to, but, it was actually the fellow who has been there awhile who was to have been watching him .. no one is to go around the beds but Lorna.
It's unfortunate, but, it will grow back ..

Lovely pics Betty .. I see sweet potato vine in the pots on each side of the entry way to the ship .. popular stuff :-)
Did you get your license/debit card back ?

Dianne .. nice you got to see your friend ..funny how 'kids' up and get older LoL

Dog biscuit makin day today, IF my back will let me ..

TGIF .. start of a long weekend here in Canada ...

Wow going to be hot

the cicadas (?) are so loud this morning, must be mating season

I also "m" think of Mary , how her new job is going, gelato venture??
Feel bad when souls go missing

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

smart cookie - having them fax the driver's licence to you!

Yes, we have a holiday weekend for Monday. Bob's taken the long & short pieces of the countertop to be cut today, so will come home with it after work.
Woooo hoooooo he just called, and said he took it in to get cut, and while he was paying for it they finished cutting, and it's now in his truck! He'll bring it home after work.
Apparently it takes 4 - 6 hours to get it cut for a sink and install the counter & sink......

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Betty, we are going to Aus. to visit DD and family. SIL is coming to stay with MIL while we are gone. You ladies be safe and have fun.

Hugs to Lorna..maybe the scalping will have grown back to perfection by the time the judges show.

LK...stay cool, your weather is as crazy hot as ours is this week. (102 with 80 to100% humidity)

Gee Dianne, Boys just wanna have fun...grin Glad you had a chance to visit with your friend.

Hope everyone is well and staying cool.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Heat is not too bad yet, 86 right now, but in another hour or so, it will be too hot to do anything outside. They are predicting showers for tomorrow, but I will believe that when I see it.

What holiday is it in Canada?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

it's just the "August Civic Holiday"...... just because they want one long weekend in each month and didn't have anything to celebrate. Although, I understand that they're trying to make it in honour of Terry Fox - just can't come up with the appropriate naming. To me, Terry Fox Memorial Day would be appropriate...... but this is gov't we're talking about - who knows how long they'll fuss with this.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Who is Terry Fox?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

http://www.terryfox.org/TerryFox/Facts.html

Wow .. thought almost everyone in North America would have heard of Terry Fox ..
The link above explains why he is one very revered Canadian ..
I was to have lunch with him when he got to Thunder Bay, but, this is where his cross Canada run ended, and, his cancer returned ..
I was working with the Cancer Society at the time ..

Another windy day, and, cool .. getting ready for the weekend heat ..

Good luck with the kitchen later on Susan ..

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, he did a lot for Cancer.

Verona, ON

I think they finally decided on Simcoe Day as the holiday. John Graves Simcoe. Not all provinces celebrate plus not all businesses celebrate it. It is not a paid civic holiday- when I was at IGA the owner decided that since the government made the holiday of Family Day in Feb he no longer had to give his employees the Aug. holiday.

Glorious day here. No longer the high humidity and a wonderful breeze.

DIANNE

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Not only that, bur, not only was he a truly genuinely nice person, but, his parents are absolutely wonderful ..
I do believe his Mom has passed away .. she would come to TBay each Sept. 1 and be the starter for the Terry Fox Marathon/run here ..

~M~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Still just the Civic Holiday here .. guess the only month without a holiday is June?
Easter sometimes falls in late March and early April ..
Just hope NO FIREWORKS !!

Lorna came home early, wasn't home 10 minutes and it started to pour .. she's happy for her flowers :-)

Cool day Dianne .. and, I do believe there is a mouse in the cupboards below the sink .. Zoey has spent a large part of the day sitting and staring and sniffing the cupboards .. head going back and forth, and, her ears .. I opened the doors, she stood and checked, but, I guess it might be 'old scent' ..

Well I did get my new washer & dryer last week. Delivery was a comedy of errors...for starters they didn't bring stack kit, hubby had to run to town for it while they went to next delivery. They go it all in and installed and left. Hubby discovered they had crushed the vent when they pushed it back to the wall. Back to town for a replacement. Next discovery was the hoses were on the faucets backwards. Using the washer I discover the normal wash cycle is almost an hour and a half. After filling out a survey about all this I got a call today and I can exchange the machine if I want.

I have chosen a different set in the beginning and the salesman told me it would be better if I went with a different set as the one I chose was a Samsung and their repair people couldn't fix it and the one he thought I should get was Sears brand. So I took his advice. Grrrrrr.

Susan, I think it's something in the air.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Don't know if y'all remember my washer/dryer fiasco about 2 years ago ..
GAWD .. first set, the window on the washer was smashed . 2 weeks for a new set ..next set comes .. 2 dryers !!!!!!!!!!!!'
3rd set was correct .. but I was sue sick of doing laundry at a Laundromat .. billed Sears for my gas and cost to do the laundry too .. they came good for half ..

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We bought a new washer, earlier this year, when shopping, a guy tried to sell us one that was a water saver. We ask how that was? He said it takes longer to fill. I asked him how that was a water saver, if it uses the same amount of water, just takes an hour to fill the tub. He had no answer. We bought a different brand.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Gee I seem to belong to a fine club. Dept. Mgr. advised me to call and have a repair person come out and make sure washer was operating correctly. So I called and a not so polite person told me to read my manual as it plainly stated that wash time was correct & I need to adapt to more modern washers. I said thank you for no help and hung up. He tried calling back twice but I didn't answer. Guess I'll just keep the devil I know.

Verona, ON

Going to take back what I said about it been cooler outside. After I posted the boys and I went for a long walk.. All of us were panting and very glad to get back to the house. I clicked the AC on when we came in.. Now is dark out there Initially I thought it was heat thunder. Tomorrow I will go down to the cottage south of me. They pulled in from Rochester and I said to them "Oh boy its going to rain, you are here". Every time they come it rains.

Full moon tonight. Blue moon!!

Need to feed the boys.

Evening

Quite a day, a not so great day

We were to stay in Washington 2 nights but will head out in the a.m
Hard city to get around in, not as I remember it but then again we came at Easter.

For those who know me ou know I don't get frazzled over much but I was looking for liquor store after driving in it for several hours.

Girls would like to move on and see other things in a not so busy place

Hoping to get up early, do a bit of sightseeing then head out of town

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If you find a liquor store, buy a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream. Pur it in a glass with some ice. YUM,

Another day close to 100

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Travel safe Betty ..
When we went to that area many years ago .. we found it a most confusing city.
DH was adamant re us finding our OWN way .. but, we finally joined an 'arranged tour' ..
We weren't there in summer either, it was the end of September ..

After 2 glorious days of moderate temps, we are back into the heat .. only the high 80s, but, I can feel humidity ..

I used to live up in the Dulles area which is near Washington, DC and you're right Betty, the traffic is terrible and streets are confusing.

When we go to the museums, we park the car in a commuter lot outside the city and hop onto the Metro, it can make for a lot of walking but better for you than traffic aggravation

Lyndonville, NY

I used to work in downtown DC. It is heLL to get through there at times.
Took two hours to get to work on bus & subway, never mind driving.

Victoria Harbour, ON

This morning we went to Lincoln memorial,White House and a few other stops so that was ok
Let Rita see some of it, LINDA had been a few times, I about 3 ..note to self "never go in the summer months

Stopped at Joann's fabric, last day for 20%. Off coupon
Can anyone tell me why I bought more Xmas fabric??
Did buy royal blue/green fabric for the backing

Rita also purchased a supply of fabric, she is excited with the price

NOW in Gettysburg

Imagine, tomorrow is out last travelling day..

Tomorrow

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well better Betty in that traffic than me. I am a very good driver but I live in a area of less than 1 million people and those people are spread out over the valley. Not a lot of traffic. Then I usually drive 10 miles or less a week so I am spoiled rotten.

My shot in the buttock was a success. Sciatica pain gone but muscle pain still there but dissipating. I do not know if muscle pain was from being continuously being sapped by the sciatica or if I was trying to catch something. Then three morning of horrific leg cramps first thing in the early am and I was trying to get out of bed. With the cramps I started drinking more water an they did disappear. I am on 4th day without Motrin, except a few evening so that is a good think. I I am taking one of the pills the pain management guy gave me to take at night. I am down to one at tonight and I think I will skip it and see what happens.

Two of my pleasures in life is going to bed at night, and that has returned. One of the others is my wonderful long stretch before I get out of bed first thing in the morning. That is also now back so I have little to complain about. Life's pleasures are simple.

Vern is home. He got out of Rehab on Thursday afternoon. He was there for 10 days. Directly there from the hospital, which I guess is normal. After the spinal tap and the removal of a lot of spinal fluid, which reduces the level of fluid in the brain, he has made a wonderful recovery. Now we just need to get appointments with a Neurologist and get a game plan going for the next step. In my reading, I am voting on future spinal taps instead of a brain fluid drain shunt. Also had a neighbor stop by and their friend has the same condition, an he is 91 and the spinal tap works wonders for him. I am just glad they might have finally determined why he had so much weakness in his left foot. After 5 years and many Neurologists, one that had a hunch.

Katie, are you still getting rain. I hope your trip to California is a short one. Wouldn't it be nice to go there for pleasure instead of either doctor or this IRS crap.

Susan, you are to quiet. I know from that silence that you are buried in moving and being over whelmed. Pretty soon you will be able to write a book on how not to move. I am so sorry such a sweet individual has to go through all of this crap. But I had the devil following me around driving me crazy for close to two weeks and I kept telling him, bring in on, even though I was in tears, because I can handle this. Better to pick on me than someone that cannot handle it. Then I would ask God to gt the devil of of my shoulder, PLEASE.......I think the tears, from high emotions, was still from the Effexor XR withdrawal.

Marilyn, tell Lorna, I feel for here about her beds. She works so hard on getting them to look just the way she has envisioned, then an idiot comes by and in a matter of minutes, destroys that vision. You guys are getting such weird weather. At least in Las Vegas, it is just hot. And by this time late in the summer, we are so done. Just go away and come back next year.

Karen, so glad you had such a wonderful time with your grandchildren. They will remember those visits for a very long time.

Debbie, so glad to see you posting. I miss your happy face.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I sent that because I did not want to lose it. I am sitting on the patio and going to take the dogs for a walk in a few minutes. Had a nice rain since early am.

Dianne, your crew is a hoot. I cannot believe you can handle the "tribe" all by yourself. How are your new teeth. Should be getting better to chew with.

Linda, how is everything in Texas?

Vern has decided he wants to go into the house so I am going to fold up my laptop and make sure he gets back in the house and settled before the dogs and I go for a walk.

I will return. Hugs, Sharon
