Thanks for the new thread Betty.
Hey Betty, thanks for the 'move on over' :-)
Time to go horizontal here .. mega busy day tomorrow .. am hoping it isn't going to be as warm .
LK .. our Provincial police here would likely check on someone if they rec'd a call the persons phone was out of service .. better safe than sorry I guess ..
Night night
~M~
Thanks for the new thread Betty. Can't wait to hear what mischief you got into today.
LK that's what I asked the officer.. He said there is some kind of fail safe in the 911 system especially in rural areas and it becomes a 'welfare check". I can still see the 1 officer's face when Diesel stood beside me. I think he thought I was fooling him when I said he won't go to you unless I give him the command. I have been discombobulated all day.
It is very warm and humidity is making itself known., Not as hot as M's though..
Going to give the boys a quick walk. I imagine they will want to come back before I am ready though.
Dianne
There we go M and I had the same explanation. lol
I guess in the Big City they don't have such a "welfare check" because we didn't have any phone for 4 days one time, and 3 days another - because Mike cut us off. I think people are expected to have cell phone service more than land line..... and that was a total of 7 days.
Mind you, I'd called Telus (our provider) and the police both times, but I still don't think they would have checked on us. I didn't call the police until 14 hours afterwards, to get our equipment back (but that didn't help, because they couldn't get all the right equipment to hook us back up)
I miss the Michigan beaches.
omgoodness - got my desktop computer set up, and geeze it's nice to use a mouse!!!
Morning :-)
Ha ha .. I am a 'Mouse Maven' .. just cannot for the life of me seem to GET the touchpad thing.
Karen, looked like a fun day at the river .. like Lake Michigan, Lake Superior has many spots like that, but, carumba, the water is often so cold .. even with the high temps I doubt it'd be more than about, maybe, 42F .. maybe 45. But, once you get into the cool water the hot air and it just kinda blend and make the swimming/play environment great ..
Trying to psych up for today .. body is achy (air conditioning) but, there are things to be done, life doesn't stop because of the heat .. have a nice light sundress all ready to go ..
Lorna's alarm is up a notch, so, in about 5 minutes I should hear her stirring .. how she made it through yesterday I will never know, but, she was sure thanking Betty for those ice collars, says they saved her life ..
OH .. she and the cemetery have been mnominated for a horticultural award from the city .. it's a city wide event .. she won it 7 years ago .. lets see what happens .. results near the end of August :-) She deserves it ..
Off I go ..
Safe day Betty
~M~
Waving as I lose the door of the hotel room, travelling day..on to nyc with a few stops
Good luck Lorna.
It was funny, after playing in the river for a while all(except me, I knew better) decided to cross the bit of sand and swim in Lake Michigan, They didn't last but a few minutes the water was so cold compared to the river. The river comes from an inland lake plus it's shallow so was much warmer, still refreshing, but definitely warmer. It's just so crazy living in a resort area. We don't go any where unless we have company and they want to play tourist.
good luck to Lorna on the competition!
Yeah, give me a mouse any day - I kept increasing/decreasing the % of my screen (up to 300% and down to 65%) when I had my hands on the laptop keyboard, Don't ask me how I did it, but my left palm had something to do with it....... Love using my old standby regular desktop computer.
I have a wireless mouse for my laptop. Wasn't very expensive, under $20 and uses a AA battery. It is from Logitech. I think DH picked it up at WalMart??

Had a couple free minutes this AM...wanted to say Howdy and that I am trying to read and keep up with you all. Keeping you in my T&P and hoping all will work out to the best for each of you.
Safe travels to Betty and the girls and Good thoughts for you Katie. Good to hear you are settling in Susan. Fingers crossed for Lorna and hugs to you all.
I use wireless mouse with my laptop too. Never could get the hang of using the touch pad.
Hi Jean, always nice to hear from you :-)
Ever had one of those days when you have been out scurrying around hither thither and yon, and, you just want to walk into your bedroom, pull down the covers on the bed, and go bunkies ?
I have, am having, such a day .. had just made my 5th and final stop when my cell rang, it was DH .. the blade had come off of the riding mower, along with it, the nut that holds it on .. he needed me to go to the hardware store and purchase a nut .. so .. find a pen, write down the number, go to the hardware store, Clerk #1 .. clueless .. gets clerk #2, within 10 minutes there are 3 males looking for the bolt .. enter FEMALE clerk #4 .. looks at my paper, walks over to a drawer, pulls it open, it is choc a bloc with BOLTS and nuts .. she flips a few, and, VOILA .. the needed nut .. we both look at the three guys, and she nudges me, says 'happens ALL the time '
Came home with the nut, and, I am thinking DH is going to be a hurtin unit tomorrow .. lots of crawling around and under..
So .. groceries are put away .. I have a headache, but, Lorna's boss handed her .. are ya ready .. 116 pics that he took with his fancy camera of the beds .. now, we have to chose I think 10 .. gonna be tough ..
Off to get some Tylenol
Hi to all .. wondering how Sharon and Debbie are doing .. actually everyone .. also thinking about Betty in NY .. I'd be terrified o drive there !
TTYL
~M~
I hate it when hubby sends me to the hardware store to get something for him.
Betty, do you remember going up in this tower?
This is about the 3rd time this year it has been stuck. So glad it did not get stuck when we were in it.

yeah, getting something for hubby from the hardware store is not my favourite thing to do....... usually just tell him "you want it, you get it - it'll save me from having to return for the one you really want vs the one you told me you wanted".
Yikes - 116 pics to chose only 10 from? yeah, gonna be tough........
That elevator needs some permanent work done on it - getting stuck in an elevator scares me. I don't think of it as just a tiny room - that would be ok. I think of it as a room with nothing holding it up but some cables and I've watched enough scary movies about the cable releasing.......
it's another hot, muggy day here. Sky is somewhat overcast and there is thunder so we may get another rain. Should make the desert beautiful for my trip but it gets hard to deal with when our houses aren't really built for it.
Potted up my #1 jackfruit tree. There are about 12 more coming - so far. They straggle in a few at a time.
Not much news here. Thanks goodness.
Cannot even imagine driving in NYC.
I could quick run out and toss some seeds in the garden so the rain can soak them. If I had a little energy. I'm still on slow. The dogs don't mind.
hugs, katie
-M- and all....I am here. Would love to see some of the pics you choose.
Checking in. Trying to keep busy.
We have a little of your heat wave, up near 90s.
Been using my old Kodak camera and took a few pics down at the "pond".
Nothing spectacular but kept my mind occupied.
Susan, I use that cleaning spray all the time for year, works great.
Katie, hugs to you....trying drawing on your strength.
Safe travel Betty & girls.
Barb, how are you doing? Thought of you when I had Timmy's for breakfast.
Waving to all of you......
Hugs
Debbie
Evening all
Just arrived in North Bergen no, what a zoo to get it..Rita was driving when we reached the outskirts of NYC, glad it wasn't my shift , planned that right 😜
Left Hyannis around 8:30am
Stopped about 4 times, did shopping and seafood for lunch..Rita, not me, not fond of fish..she so enjoyed
I found a lovely vest type cover, girls bought it for me re my planning the trip
Rita several outfits
Maybe I'll find something special in NYC
Linda,s good leg is hurting big time, she is not sure she will go tomorrow 😢
Trying to decide if we will go out to eat, hmmm I'd rather not
Be back in a bit
?? what spray, Debbie? I don't remember mentioning a spray cleaner.
Well, spent some of the afternoon doing what I love to do - transplanting. Then my DH came home with a Norfolk Island Pine - it's about 2 1/2 ft high, and has been sitting in the office at work since Christmas - the secretary just gave it to Bob :-) Not sure about transplanting it - I usually kill 'em off. Guess I either water too much or too little? I took off some dead/brown branches, but otherwise just watered it, and put it on top of a cabinet in the kitchen with a lot of natural light.
All my herbs are transplanted though, and are sitting outside, including my Hibiscus I got last week - hope it blooms again. I planted a Gas Plant in a pot as well. It started to die off (I haven't been paying much attention to my plants lately), but then got lots of new shoots (without my help lol guess it's a sturdy water-forgiving plant)
Anyway - it felt good to play in the dirt.......
My Bob's home and it's time to make dinner!!
What is a gas plant?
Hey Debbie. Still waiting on your camera to get fixed?
Susan...didn't you post this:
his is something I saw on FB - going to have to try it:
"Works on every stain I've tried it on !!!
The ultimate stain remover that actually works on a seriously set in stain! Never buy oxyclean again!
The mixture is:
1 tsp. Dawn dishwashing detergent
3-4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide
couple tablespoons of baking soda.
Scrub on with a scrubbing brush"
Yes, still waiting on camera it is at the factory.
oh yeah, I did post that, Debbie

By Crackies, the wind is just making life EXTRA exciting today, we've already heard trees go down in the back 40 ..
Got the pics in for Lorna .. wouldn't ya know it, DH was with me, and the lady from the horticultural society had her hubby get the envelopes .. he saw Gord in my car .. and.. BAM .. they know one another .. he's an ex OPP (police) .. so, I kinda put a HEY DEE HO in for Lorna .. :-)
Power is flickering, best I shut this down!
M
oh Marilynne - hope things are ok with your power....... certainly don't want to have power lines go down!
I just realized you can't read what's at the top of the picture because of the DG caption, so here goes:
"When planting your cats, make sure to space them 6 inches apart, so they have room to grow"
Found out this morning that the money transferred here was sent back - minus fees, of course. don't know why. Tony went to bank and will report tomorrow. Thanks to my good friend Saul I will still be able to travel and Tony will get paid. Saul cashed a check for me, saying he's glad to do something for me as I do so much for him and others.
Need I say I'm exhausted. Not much packing to do for a short trip. The electrical work has been done on the van and I got new tires on the last trip so I'm as ready as possible.
Should have a lot of little jackfruit trees when I return. I've been getting some help from a DGer in Australia who has them growing. Along with a lot of other interesting things.
I'll be back.
hugs, katie
$$ sent back? transferred from where, and sent back to whom? Sounds like it was transferred to you and sent back to someone else, with your bank charging you fees for the return?
Something's not right here - good thing Tony's on the prowl for the reason :-)
When do you leave?
Evening all
Needless to say I (we) are exhausted..wonderful day
Empire State Bld
Statue of Liberty
911 Memorial
Little Italy
Many other sites, just too tired to list them all
Got to say it's something to see Nd be in NYC, doubtful I'd ever come back, just way too busy
Can't move for people...of course it being close to 100 today didn't help
Soooo glad we took a taxi into NYC, we liked the driver tso much we gave him a time to pick us up..what a personable young man. At $70 each way it proved to be an expensive day..oh well, that's what sight seeing is all about right?
Just waiting for pizza, soon be in bed but have to wait till it arrives
Katie I too a, wondering why you got $$$ then they sent it back?
"M" how did you fare with the storm? When will Lorna find out about the award?
Debbie/Susan, marking down that recipe for stains..am always ruining clothes
When I went to Nantucket was wearing white slacks, in my side bag a black pen leaked, Drats there went my slacks. Grrr
When we got home Linda had me put tide pen..would you believe it all came out
Susan, won't be long you will be all organized, bet you are feeling better
Lindakay, think it was as hot here today as it was in your neck of the woods
I can't deal with the money right now. Maybe Tony will know something tomorrow. But I don't fight the bank. It's useless.
I am thinking of a nice little revenge for the retirement folks. It's perking.
Just did some overdue clean-up. And took a bath. Sleep soon. Then, maybe, a little revenge.
hugs, katie
Betty, that was a hot day for you guys in NY. It was 104 here today.
.......... organized............ what's that like?
Today I would settle for a clean oven & stove. Now that I'm finally getting "organized" (yeah, riiiiiiight) a bit, I went and did some transplanting of house & outdoor plants into new pots (herbs, mostly, and a new flower (Hibiscus).
Today I was able to use the "loose" countertop and actually did some dishes in the kitchen! I used a porcelain bowl for the wash bowl, and set a dish drainer with a towel at the drain end so the water didn't run all over the counter. Felt good to use a drainer even though I still don't have a sink to drain into. Then I put them away right in the same room!! (usually do dishes in bathroom then have to come to kitchen to put them away). Amazing how small things make you feel better.
THEN I decided if I could move a bit in the kitchen, I could clean the oven and stove (YUCK!!!! - with an industrial oven cleaner, it took 3 sprayings/waiting to get 2/3 of it mostly clean. I guess Grace didn't realize you have to have appliances spotless when a new tenant moves in. Well, this makes the 5th stove/oven I've had to clean since May 20th....... yuck
Morning .. mind, that was a long while ago for us ..
the wind is still just blowing with gusts up to 60mph .. when a gust happens I listen to hear a CRRRRRRACK, and, know a tree has fallen (or, almost).
Am surely hoping it gives up and peters out later this morning ..
Betty .. sounds like you're all having a great time ... was the 911 memorial as awesome as I have heard it is?
Have a friend whose sister lives in downtown NY and works/part owns, a coffee shop .. Orens Brew (I think) .. Donna is NY personified .. lives and breathes the city and its culture.
100F .. gag me, add pollution and the diesel smell, and, yep .. New YAK :-)
Enjoy .. all of you .. hope Linda is feeling better .. did you pack bubble wrap ?
LK 104 .. is it 'dry heat'? I can't hack it .. does me in ..
Lorna's Mom and Dea live north of Toronto by about 100miles .. Very hot there too .. they have air, but, won't use it ;-(
Her Dad has stage 4 COPD AND, to Lornas GREAT distress .. he FELL yesterday .. took her Mom close to an hour to get him up .. NO WAY would he let her call 911 .. I now know where Lorna gets her stubborn streak from .. he did rip a large piece of skin from his back, and, jarred himself .. doubtless he'll be a hurtin unit today .. Lorna is so upset ..
The results of the Horticultural Committee will come somewhere towards the middle to end of August ..
Susan .. I take it the oven isn't 'self cleaning'?
Have to give you credit .. you sure are tenacious, AND, so positive .. I regret to admit, I would have pulled the pin long ago.
Katie .. I hope your plan for revenge is one that is effective, and, doesn't involve guns LoL .. the power of the written word is sometimes more effective, and reaches more people ..
Hey Sharon .. what's up .. how ar your gardens?
Debbie .. good to hear all is well with you .. have fun and enjoy your photography ..
Gonna 'Bake with Barb' tomorrow .. how is all in NH ?
Sue .. are you in Calf now?
Dianne .. I sure hope this wind peters out before it reaches you .. my 3 canines are NOT fans of the wind ..
OH .. just had a brain flash .. there is a movies, entitled "the Wind' .. saw it years ago .. LOVED it .. a murder mystery that was set in Greece .. I must look it up :-)
Off n running
TOODLES
~M~
Karen .. enjoy those kiddies :-)
Morning,
Can't sit and gab
Off to Atlantic city then Philadelphia
Just ready to close the suitcase
Barb is "bakin' in NH" and staying put. There is no way I can go outside. The temps are only in the 90s but the humidity levels are in the 70s!!! I cannot breathe outside so in here I stay. I don't understand how anyone with COPD does not use AC. It takes the humidity out of the air which is the worst thing for us. Lorna must be going crazy with worry over her Dad.
So I sew and knit and play on the computer. We are content with sandwiches of some kind at night so the apartment doesn't get any heat. At the end of the day, neither of us wants much to eat anyway when it is hot.....
Sorry to hear about Lorna's Dad.
We had 105 yesterday, with 48% humidity. Heat index was 115.
My kiddies leave today. Amelia and I are going to be so lonesome. She has been able to go outside to play almost any time she wants because the kids would go with her. After a month it will take a while to get used to them being gone.
