Thanks for the link Debra! I love yours too Ju, man those are beautiful. I'm sure all of our ornamentals started life as weeds.
Speaking of weeds Ju, did I accidentally send you a Rudbeckia hirta instead of an Echinacea 'Pink Poodle'? I just found out the immature leaves feel the same.
Plant Propagation ,The Basics Continued July 2015
Mipiii Robin I will find out when it Blooms early next season , According to mine , it could be either ,, As long as it is growing I am delighted , really , lol
Still working on pots , Here is a trifoliata , a Hardy Northern Orange , #1
and ; While this may not look impressive ,, Here is 2&1/4 pd , Asian Pear from my tree
if you cut the 2 liter bottle pot , it would barely fit in the pot
Nice Pear Ju, I hope it tastes as good as it looks...mmm. I've got three Poncirus trifoliata, they are slow growers where I've got them situated, I love them. It's their second year and not much bigger than yours.
I'll check up with you later about the Echinacea and make it right even if you're delighted.
Mipii Robin ) I need to talk to you in a bit about being the seed keeper you became (congratulations by the way )
Nice little tree , do you ever get Giant Swallowtails on yours , Not intending to be offensive with this , But , and , or ,,are you the standard worm killer ? lol
you grow oranges and pears? wow, I never saw one pear from my old fashioned this year, the squirrel's got them all. now all the elderberries are gone. the birds got them all.
Robin, if you want some pandurata seeds dmail me your address... please. be aware it is a vine, tho. I have seeds of these things available..
The red bloom picture # 3 what do the seeds look like , ? Debra , You may of sent a few previously to me ? .
Pears are a little under ripe , they rot fast and everything eats them the minute they turn ripe . juicy and fresh and Gooood ,, they are
JU, here are a few photos of my Sumac tree. Just to show you how far away from the house to plant. I could not get a direct on photo because of streetscape trees. They do not lose their leaves so snow is a hazard. Breaks big limbs because of weight of snow.
Second photo is one branch. Third photo shows the tops of palm trees. They are probably 15' tall.

Are you talking about Poncirus (Hardy Orange) and Giant Swallowtails? Mine has not blessed me with blooms yet, I'll photograph them when they do.See photo below. I have two furry felines that love chasing Butterflies so the Butterflies have to be real sneaky in my yard. I don't get to see them often.
No, I am not a worm killer -- and no offense taken, you'd have to try real hard to offend me.
Debra, that's so sweet of you to offer, right now I'll have to regretfully pass. I've got Clematis vitalba, I think 6 of them I grew from seed. I just finished building a trellis for them so I can plant them up. I can share those if you or anybody else would like some. I generally collect seeds from everything I grow, so you are also welcome to whatever I have. I'm trying to build my Vine stock lol, slow as it is.
Your blooms are beautiful, they all look like they're full sun. I'm looking for something very specific right now and am finding out that's a real task. I have dry shade (morning sun) under a cantilevered window. The height has to be under 18" and something that blooms summer to frost. A very tall order!
New trellis waiting...
Old trellis, planted with 2014 Porcelain Vine (no seeds yet).
Last year trellis planted with 2014 Chocolate Vine (no blooms or seeds yet)

Try Feverfew
I forgot about feverfew...thanks! Can you think of anything that blooms pink? Now I'm really pushing it, lol.
Leave it to JU, I figured he would come up with something. I would have said container dahlias but being in zone 6 you would have to dig them and I don't think you want to do that. Dahlias are one of my favorite plants except for that. I said 'container' because of the height.
Sharon, funny, your Sumacs are sure different than the ones I grew in Seattle. So pretty. Are yours deciduous? Or, do they lose the leaves some all the time and continuously getting new ones? Mine were Staghorns.
Thanks Jen, I have lava rock as a mulch...sure makes digging a pain. Great idea about the Dahlias, I had some beautiful ones last year and didn't pull them for the winter...argh.
Forgot to tell you JU, that is one humongous pear. Is that the first one off your tree? Does it have very many on it? How long does that take to ripen after taking it off the tree? I know you don't wait for them to ripen on the tree, but have never seen one that big. What is a 2 liter bottle pot?
Mipii (Robin) Indian pinks maybe ? A good hardy Dianthus ,, or a self sowing type I came back (edit) to say A pink Snapdragon sounds the most likely..
Jen those are my pears same as last year , Those are those self watering start pots made fron soda bottles ,
Sometimes the pear will not ripen anymore , so no time , they taste pretty good and are nice and juicy as they are , and there are a few out there on the tree , ,, lol

ju, we were always told on pears to pick them early and put them on the counter for a few days to ripen. Don't know why they don't ripen on the tree.. They probably do, but you would have to pick them at the right time or they rot. So, how do you pick that time? 'nite, jen
Ju, I guess the task of finding a specific plant for a specific environment is not a difficult task...
not if you have friends.
Thanks everyone for their kind and generous suggestions, I am now blessed with a decision to make on all the wonderful plants I can choose for dry shade.
Mipii (Robin) It is a little difficult anyway , Annual are popular because of that (all season bloom .
The only thing I can think of were those two , Feverfew and Snapdragon , There are not a lot of perennials that will take dry shade , at the height you suggested ,, that bloom all season ..
I realize these flowers mostly suggest sun but the Feverfew and Snapdragon will take shade
with some doing , Likely they will lean around as will Dianthus and Aster , (and these are not all season bloom)
The dwarf varieties can be a little ""tough or Difficult " to get , or find ,
It is a fun question your search
Jen , I don't really , I pick a few the last week of August here , and see how close to ripe , Some show some yellow as they turn ripe , First of September is usually when , By usual look and Time is how I do

I'd use impatiens .. maybe some coleus, unless you are looking for perennials. Even Caladiums would be pretty. oh heck, all three? LOL
I have houtunnia in my shade gardens, but after they flower, it is just colorful foliage.
Don't know JU, how can you do that when the weather has been so different? Guess you didn't have all the heat that we did? Seems if I remember, you were almost flooding when we were almost triple digits.
Gosh, Mipi, if you want annuals, there are a ton of them. Too bad about the dahlias. I love them, and they are expensive.
Mipii-
How about "Rozanne" Geranium? I can't kill them, and have some in morning sun. They bloom all summer till frost. Given a chance, they will climb things, but if there is nothing to climb they are 18" or less. Super dry shade here in areas I hardly water, and they only look droopy if they get 0" in a month!!!
Thanks Debra, I didn't say perennial when I should have. The Houtunnia's colorful foliage is a real plus. Although your choices would be very pretty, I got me some thinking to do. Taylordaylily suggested Lamium, it's a toss up between that and Dianthus. Wow, some really good choices, you guys are really good gardeners!
Oops Pistil, didn't see your reply. Yes, Geraniums...okay that's on my short list now!
See Mipii Robin , You give us all an "A" for reference pointing ,, I am still playing planters , Not driving me to go nuts though , as to how look at it .lol
Yeah Ju, you can't reference point without some knowledge. You get an A for planter playing too.
All the [pictures are beautiful.. JU, what is the second one in the houseplants that is blooming? It is so pretty. Not many houseplants bloom.
Your vines are beautiful Debra. But then all the shots of your yard are so pretty. I am really jealous. I just can't do much in my yard. Problem is, haven't been able to for a couple of years now. Bob and my daughter have put weed block and compost down but didn't get it done until too late to plant it with the things )(annuals) I had hoped to. Oh well, next year. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to repot a fiddleleaf fig and a large leaf philodendron and then hopefully we will get out and do some pruning on my roses etc. All wishes.
Weill think I will go to bed. ttyl, jen
Boy, I could spend time in that garden Debra. Love the photos, thanks so much for sharing them with us.
oh wow, Robin! :D that is way cool!
Thanks, all, Joe and I do spend a few minutes a day walking around and looking at stuff, but really, no one ever comes over, so I am the main person enjoying my yard, right now.
Yes I agree ,! Debra's garden is Beautiful , Makes you want to there with a glass of tea , or walk around looking at the goings on , nature , at it's finest !!!
Jen Something like a incarvilla some name for a Boganvillia Hybrid , the red bloom ..
Beautiful Hibiscus to us from you Robin love the colors ,,
Blooms are fading here and I am trying to finish pots , my energy is kind of gone , But I will get some done ,
again Beautiful Gardens all ,, Redoing mine , I will be at it a while
Thanks for the compliment, it has ten petals too. I made sure to self pollinate it in hopes of getting a double bloom seedling...without the double stamen, who knows.
Spending time walking and looking at the goings on in the gardens is the highlight of the day. Lol, if I can find some weeds to pull -- my day's even better! I've got to laugh at me (I'm sure my neighbors do). You guys understand though...right?
Ju, I'm sending you some well earned garden energy, but you've got to sleep on it to work.
Robin, yes, we all understand and are the same way. So, what is that energy you are sending JU to sleep on? Does it work immediately? Does he sleep on it every night? Does he sniff it in his sleep? LOL, you have my imagination working now.
JU, Google came up with this name, incarvilla, but it is, like you said, not exact. the flowers look somewhat like them, but the leaves are different. And half the beauty of your plant is the leaves. Google gave me 4 choices. Tried Seninsus or something like that and no the leaves weren't it either Will try the rest. How big is your plant? Do you know how big it gets? Is it a tree, or?? How big is it now? How long have you had it?
Guess it doesn't matter how big they get, 'cause if you grow them in a pot it will restrict the size anyway. Gotta go google the rest. Another reason I prefer Google to the plant files on Daves. At least Google gives you some suggestions instead of just saying "no results found".
What google says about these, it's an analgesic stronger than Morphine. How does that strike you? LoL, maybe that is what Mipi is sending you. Bet she knew what that plant was all along. Right Robin? Instructions on how to use it.
It reminds me of the Camellia leaves, only smaller. I love camellias. Wonder if i could grow one in a pot and bring it in in the winter. Probably not. Bet this house would be too dry for it in the winter. Darn. ttyl,
Jen it is a House plant a mothers day gift to grandma , about 2ft I would say is as big as it gets ,
Has a short vine tendency.
Warm day , a few things only I do not do much on Sunday , mull around some , put a few pots to fill in place ,odds and ends
Lol Jen, I was sending energy on a prayer, the 'sleep on it' part was meant to get some rest. I figured one wasn't good without the other. Although, morphine could probably do the trick too.
>grin< I was pulling JU's chain, Mipi. Sorry, maybe at your expense. Thought the crack about the analgesic and the sleep would be a good joke for him. Shouldn't have included you in it. Sorry.
And THEN he tells me it was a gift for Granny, for mother's day. Oh well, hopefully she isn't reading this. Bet Judy is tho. lol.
They don't mind when they do , All weird , with weird answers , weirdness ala cart , besides , the only thing that is suppose to be correct here is plant info ,, oh well failed again , did me ,,
^_^
I'm only happy to give you material to work with Jen. I'd rather be included. Besides, I got a chuckle out of it.
