Please post a picture when it b looms. Mine isn't that far along yet. I don't know what they mean by GIANT, because mine are only about 10 inches tall. But then they have been in the 4 inch pots for a long time. Did I send you any seeds of the lime/purple or lavender zinnias? I am wondering what they are going to look like too.
I had some Bacopas that I didn't have a home for today so put them in a planter with petunias etc. Then some of the original Nasturtiums, so stuck them in some orange petunias. I'm telling you, between my sister's left overs and my stuff that didn't come up so bought late from the nurseries, this year my plants are really going to be interesting.
Guess it's time to hit the sack, nite, jen
Plant Propagation , The Basics ,Continued May 2015
Great butterfly pics Ju... thanks for sharing!
Just lovely! Are you are seeing lot's of monarchs this year?
You seem to have lots of flutter-bys this year... -:)
I've been seeing more hummers than butterflys this year so far..
What color are the delphs? I found two old packages of larkspur seeds
and scattered them outside... Not sure if they'll grow... The seeds were at least
three years old ... But what the heck... -:)
I did get a couple of zinnias ... But not what I should have gotten...
I suspect a tree rat was getting into the planter at night because I had
a mulch of dried broken up leaves over the soil to keep it from getting
too dry and I was finding it slightly disturbed... Not like the dogs would
do ... some little critter was getting in there...maybe eating the seeds?
Not sure... Disappointing though...
NF2932) Nancy That is the first and only Monarch this year , a female laying eggs though it was , hope , hope..
Delphs are mixed have to see them bloom next year or year after to say ..
I was thinking of you today for a moment when I was trimming the iris back , There are only a few clumps large enough to separate ,
I will try to get you a couple fans of something , the multi bi toned such as ,
My zinnia have been wilting at evening time here this year , it rained and been cloudy to the point the plants are soggy and not used to the sun , Sun shines and they wilt , cooking them like lettuce , not good ,,
This was one of several today
great shots, Ju. Jen did I ever send you some seeds? My yard which I haven't seen for a week is like a jungle. Overgrown. I have been working non stop and I am exhausted. You all take care.
Hey ,, I have have a Honda , that needs re registered , because of an air bag difficulty ,,
Have any good advice , he , he , he ,, he ,, ^_^
take care Debra , hope you get caught up with relaxing in the garden , ..
What are you talking about Debra? Seeds? Or specific seeds? Like Milkweed seeds? You sent me a ton of seeds. Yes, I still have a lot of seeds I will not get to this year. If I don't get them all next, will send them on to someone else.
JU, I always thought Zinnias take a lot of sun. Are you saying because you have had so much rain, they can't handle the sun? That's sure a shame. I hope to get some in today or tomorrow. I have quite a few planted and need to be set out. Maybe sometime today. I think the weather is throwing rocks at all of us this year. Not used to what we are getting.
Are you about caught up at work Debra? Or are they still pouring in? What are they doing with the airbags, just switching them out for a different brand? I am sure that is about the only thing they could do. Bob and I were just discussing it. Quite a problem isn't it? They don't know what is causing it? Scary. Hang in there. Jen
the airbag recall is for a faulty takata inflater, so if you do a vin inquiry ( that is what we do) and it shows your car affected , we order the part in and replace it for free. Honda is even paying for rental cars while the car is in for service. The thing is, it is vin specific, so if we run your vin, and it shows you are not affected then no problem. we have been doing this for 8 years now. Ju, you can email me your vin and I can run it right now if you want, just dmail me the info. I can only help with Hondas, tho. Now that the party is over and the weekend complete, I can take it easy at work for a while.
Stormed here last night , couple hours of downpours , thunder , lightning , the storm in full . power glitched , and surged a few times
Here are some things from this morning and now , another storm is brewing up .
1 is a perennial Basil
2, 3 Red admiral trying to get warm and dry on the driveway
4 another Perennial basil ,, one already wilted this morning , oh , well I have someone I want to send them to , but they need to root and live a little .
5 Zinnia .. taking it's time but getting there .
Debra i was playing with you some about , the not funny , all that causes , Most are easy fix , but time and paperwork , now computer refiling , takes some time , thank heavens for "Auto Fix" with the computers , As you said ,, one number and refit and register is done ,
paper work ,, 6 to 8 weeks , remember those days ,,
You are sure having a time with your plants this year JU. Guess we all are. Right now I am washing pots so I can get them put away or back to my sister. So many. And the little buggers are hard to get clean. Need a bottle brush or something. Sure nice working on the deck tho. Keeps the kitchen clean, but Bob isn't getting the deck painted while I am doing this.
Have any of you had the offer of Windows 10 free? They have sent me the offer twice now. I guess it is coming out after July 29th. Wonder what happened to 9. Must get busy. ttyl,
Windows 10 Reserve your copy now ,, click here to reserve your copy , See your Microsoft account for details ,
I won't do the pot thing for two or three months yet there Jen ,
So you are getting it too JU? . Well, I have been washing plant (seedling) pots all day. Actually the last 2 or 3 days. Is that because you reuse your pots and keep starting seeds all summer JU? Really? I like starting seeds, but after the spring fling, I am worn out with them. Don't want to plant another seed all summer. Just want to sit on the deck and enjoy them.
Bob is getting into his fertilizing thing. Sunday is his day to fertilize. The drip system is set to go on twice a day for 20 minutes each time. Might cut down on that later depending on the weather. So far it has been above normal like everybody else. Suppose to get almost a hundred next weekend. jen
I will load it up and give it a go , problem being , if I don't like it system restore to defaults ,
I still have seed to try and I will fall kale , new seeds from my garden are drying for planting soon ,
I had my boiled greens from the garden tonight and still have some munch on later .
Anti -cancer foods ,, who knows ,,
If lucky here , I will have a few more perennials for next year ,, I keep trying , I might even manage to learn something some day ,, going very slow so far ,,lol
Todays
The weed patch
Jeanette , in reply to your Question What ever Happened to Windows 9 ,,
They sent it back to "The Beatles" and the Concert Days of Yesteryear ,,
Remember ? No.9 No.9 No.9 lol
I just got a new computer. I had my guru here to set it up. It came with Windows 8, but he said for windows 8 users Windows 10 will be a free upgrade/update.
He has been playing with the pre-release Beta version of it. He says it is good-has the best parts of Windows 7 and best of 8. My only problem is, I don't want to buy a "For Dummies" book now, study hard, and then have to start over in 6 weeks!
I use a custom built Sony ,, Came with windows 8 ,,
I need a dummies book still ,lol However , user manuals and the assist auto that came with gadget are great ,,
Pistil As of July 29 , and while we all learn also ,We can expect to hear from one another , say the second week of September ?
Oh Dang it, I just looked on-line and the "Dummies" types books for Windows 10 are not in print yet, although I can "pre-order" one. Now not sure what to do. Anyway, yah in Sept we can all swap tips.
No JU, I don't remember no. 9, no.9. no.9.? 'cause I never cared that much for the Beatles. Yeah, I am a real sleeper. I like some songs of different singers, but don't listen to all their stuff. Very few that I like all their things enough to listen to them steady.
Don't know if I will take their download or not. Will let you know. If enough of us do tho, it should be on a separate thread. Jen
Did not know about windows 10.,, i use office version. Ju, your number 9 joke did not get passed me.. LOL
I Love your weed patch, I will show you why later tonight when I am at home and Not captive at work.
My daughter and grandson have Windows 10 Beta version on their computers. Microsoft gets people who don't mind crashes etc. on their computers to work with the product and report good/bad/ etc. to them while perfecting the saleable version. That is right up their alley. Robin and Ian. Both enjoy things like that. It would have me pulling my hair out. Maybe at their ages I could do it, altho, I was more of a hands on person, Mechanical, than using my brain. LOL Not too brainy I guess.
Well, it is suppose to be a great week weather-wise. Mid 80s and rising to end up in 3 digits by Sunday. Spokane has a Hoopfest every year where they have many basket ball courts in the middle of downtown, and anyone in the general public can get 5 people together for a team and sign up. Well, it is this weekend and it is going to be so hot, they are bound to have a lot of heat problems. They will have a lot of EMTs with ambulances there, and everyone enjoys it. Spectators too.
Well, suppose I had better get busy. Got a new cleaning lady starting tomorrow, this is her first job outside her own home, so not sure I am a good one for her to start on. Guess I will see. ttyl,
Thanks Ju... I would love some iris fans... that is so nice of you to think of me! I know you have lots to do so don't pressure yourself to dig them up until you have the time and let me know, I'll send some postage your way ok? That red admiral is lovely, really lovely... I don't think we have those here in SoCal... maybe up in northern California?...the colors are really neat! Very, very pretty. Thanks for posting all the butterfly pics! Looks like your milkweed is growing gangbusters too! Excellent! Sure wish you could send some of that rain my way.... solve both our problems... we're in the throes of 100+ degree temps and dryer than dry. Strange how we're both having issues with the zinnias this year. Ordinarily they are some the most carefree flowers I grow.
Unfortunately, I found out I had blossom end rot on 4 of my tomatoes on one particular plant yesterday when I checked. The tree rats have eaten about 7... so far the score is rats 7/Nancy 0!
I have almost decided not to grow them next year. I have grown tomatos for 18 years in this garden with nary a critter until about three years ago... now I can't get rid of them. I may need to give up on them for a year and encourage the rascals to go elsewhere.
Nancy I wonder if the stuff I broadcast on my perennial bed would work on your animals. I got it at Gardens Alive about 5 years ago and broadcast it one night and haven't had any since. It was mostly caster oil. 68% if didn't kill them, but they do not like the smell. I had a little bit left and gave it to my sister. Se was losing one tomato plant, and I mean BIG plants, a night, plus a few broccoli plants every night. She threw what little bit I had left out there a week ago and hasn't lost any more plants. Yours and hers and mine, all sound like the rodent family. Maybe it would work. At that time it was called Mole Away but when I looked recently theirs either changed the name, or got something new.
JU I was going to ask you if that Red Admiral had another stripe would it be a higher grade? But Bob said he didn't think there was a higher rank than Admiral.
When an admiral carries the political title as one of The Joint Chiefs of Staff is as high as the rank goes ,,
I will know eventually , fern leaf peony , linella , acacia , lot of possibilities , if the next leaf is larger and the same ,, Mimosa ,,
and a question mark butterfly on the side of a table
This message was edited Jun 22, 2015 7:02 PM
JU, is that a fern leaf Peony? I sure like those. Tried to talk a lady out of a piece of hers one time and she said no. Where did you get it? Was it a root? Tuber? They are beautiful plants.
JU, did you send me some Bronze Fennel? There is a slip of paper in there with that written on it. About 2x4 inches, but it was in loose, in a sack with a lot of other packets of seeds. Were there any of those seeds in the ones you sent? If so, what were they in?
Well, haven't heard anything on the car today. Been 12 days now, going on 2 weeks. Anything happens to the other car, we'll be walking.
Gotta get busy, got all the small 2 to 4 inch pots washed, as well as trays etc. I swear there were hundreds. Bob took my sister's back to her. ttyl,
It is one of the mixed seeds from Debra Jen , I don't know for sure what the seedling is ,
Yes Jen there were Bronze Fennel seeds in the seeds , None returned here this year , that I can see anyway , I have to find my seeds and plant a couple ,,
Hey Jen ,, Get out in that Kitchen and wash those pots and trays ,,
Dry them on the deck and stack them nice and clean ,,
If you ain't doing that nice , you might be seeing them again ,,
were going to Shake , rattle and roll ..
OMG, was that Chubby Checker or who? Don't do that to me JU. I'm too old for that crap. Give me a Western anytime. Not to say I will know it, but will like it better than that R&R crap.
I guess I will order some Bronze Fennel Seed and send you some. Seems the only way to get any. Is it a perennial or annual?
Going to read and then to bed.
nite, jen
I still have bronze fennel seeds around here someplace . that was a spoof on Bill Haley and the Comets ..
Jen ,, Yes , I know , the crap is for the garden ,,
Jeanette... thanks for letting me know... I will look for it. I shop at Gardens Alive... they have great products and I am desperate! I'll try anything at this juncture!
Not mine, but a good idea. jen
JU, you are getting such a variety of flowers. So pretty. Do Granny and Judy appreciate them? How is Judy by the way?
Had a post from Lee today. Guess Stormy the German Shepherd is having bad problems with his back. Too bad. They have had so many problems with that dog's health.
Jeanette Judy is well , most of flowers Granny enjoys for a minutes , she has a few favorite .
Judy always says there are a bunch of them , lol
Noel the White Alaskan Husky I have shown a few times Babysitting her here ,, Noel passed away yesterday , went off to Doggy Heaven ,, BIG AWWWWWW
Dieffenbachia being manipulated
Oh, that's too bad JU. What was wrong with Noel? Old age, or?? Who did she belong to. You say you were dog sitting her.
I am surprised. I would love to have someone growing flowers for me. But, at least you enjoy them. That's what counts.
We are getting fairly hot weather. Have to open the door at night when we are sitting out here watching TV. That helps. Problem is, the worst is yet to come. Monday suppose to be the worst. Building up to it. Wonder if anyone believes in Global Warming yet?
Noel belong to another sister and her family , adopted a few years ago from a shelter , Noel was old but not that old for an Alaskan Husky , Arthritis complications if I were to guess but I don't know for sure ,
it falling into the upper 50's here Rain is so heavy every few hours it is incredible , low roads downtown are now impassible , White river here is flooding , it is suppose to rain all night and tomorrow still , 2 ft; of water across the street and a neighbors property are flooded , beginning on our property here now ,,
it rains all night like it has all day and this season is gone....
Back yard was sponge walking this afternoon , a lot of water and a long time ago now ,
Oh wow, JU. Hard to imagine when we are running over triple digits. We just don't do this in June. Amazing. Bob said he has to water the perennial bed by hand now 'cause the TV guy didn't get the dish high enough that sprinkler would not soak it. I told him we would go garage saling at 8 o'clock in the morning, go to two and come home and finish in the perennials. So, that is the plan.
Decided to put some poppy seed down and maybe mix in some zinnias etc. with them, and water them inl Told him he would have to water them every day.
Oh, BTW, his beets, and cabbage/lettuce are coming up. Nothing on the carrots yet. Do you know if the carrots are later coming up? Anyway, very interesting. going to sign off and maybe hit the sack. ttyl, jen
Hi all, Ju, that upsie water bottle ( or pop bottle) idea is one I have been using forever. It works great on squash, vines and other things, not too great on peppers and tomatoes I have found. Just transplanted some tomatoes from their water bottle planters to the garden. Finally.
Jen, gee what is wrong with your car?
what is bronze fennel? I am glad Bob will water for you.
Joe just recently started watering my stuff when he waters his beans. He upended a huge tub of potatoes this am. it was so full. now it holds cuttings and seedlings.
That seedling looks like a senna, Ju. I love mine it comes back every year. it typically blooms in August, here. I started mine with one seed. I'm working on having a huge patch.
this lily came from a nice DG'r in a swap on the swap forum.
Debra Pretty !!! and I hope it is , another butterfly plant ,!!! ^_^
Oh and : nearest to my Bronze Fennel , lives about five years here
