Newbie to the site here, this sounds fun, there are so many interesting varieties out there. Here is what I have planned for this year:
Lakota Winter Squash
Boston Marrow
Pink Banana Squash
Taos Squash- old Taos Pueblo Hubbard Variety
Mandan Banquet Squash
These are the notable ones, hopefully my squash do better than last year. Happy 2015 season everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I will be planting 2 types of zucchini, Golden Dawn and Ronde de Nice. We always have trouble keeping up with our zucchini, they grow so fast so I decided to try one of the round types and found Ronde de Nice. I grew Golden Dawn last year as a change from the regular dark green zuke and will try it again this year. I admit that I have sometimes bought a seedling since I grow so few squash plants (2 plants and we fill our freezer for the year it seems) but when starting from seeds, I have always direct sown. I could sow them now but my garden boxes are currently full of cabbage and onions. Hopefully they finish soon and then I can sow the squash.
This was a really great idea, should be lots of fun!

Friendly, MD

Hello all. I am newish to gardening, and really excited to participate. I usually have disastrous results when it comes to growing squash, but I'm willing to try.

1. Connecticut field pumpkin
2. Early white bush scallop squash
3. Delicata squash

I hope these choices are ok, its kinda hard to keep track of who is growing what. Good luck to everyone!

I am planning to plant my seeds in large paper pots and grow them in the greenhouse until they have their first true leaves. Then I will transplant them to the garden right in their paper pots. That way they will not be shocked as much as if you dig them out of a plastic container. I plant my cucs that way too. Where I live (OR coast) I will probably plant the squash out in mid May and the cucs in late May. All depends on our weather, though. Squash and cucs like warm nights. They really get set back if they get too cold.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

beebonnet, sounds like a good plan. Good luck everyone. The two sprouts I have begun to greening up! We're expecting another cool front, temp. expected to drop near freezing this weekend, so I'll watch and see if I need to move the tender plant back indoor, urgh! I hope I won't have to do all that work. :((

Julie, precious little ones. Congrats again.

We're going into the 20's Friday and Saturday nights so I'm waiting for awhile to plant. I'll probably be bringing up the rear. Well, better late than never, I suppose. :)

Montreal, Canada

I'd love to join!
Because my yard is small and I collect my seeds I only do one type a year. Last year I had a great crop of Burguess butternut but my favorite squash is always the Red Kuri and that what I'll grow this year!

Winter squash are my favourite veggies to grow!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Welcome everyone!

Remember...I still have 3 packs of seed to share with folks...speak up and I'll send you some!

Suches, GA(Zone 7a)

This sounds like fun for a newbie like me, so here goes. all are new varieties for me but I'll still have the same crookneck and zucchini.

1. cocozelle
2. Ronde de nice
3. winter Tahitian

My favorite way to cook summer squash is to slice in about 1/4 inch slabs, dip in egg, dredge in a mixture of bread crumbs and parmesan, and then toss in a 350 degree oven until crispy.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Welcome Roodriver!

Sounds yummy! I'll probably pick some up at the supermarket tomorrow and try this. I have panko here, do you think those would work?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone, my first 3 seeds for 'Casper' pumpkin continue to come up strong. Temp. has dropped drastically, but I will test these babies, and see how cold they will tolerate....it's said to drop around freezing by tomorrow. I'll be prepare to cover them should temp. really bottom out.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

When are these pumpkins ready to harvest.
We plant the seed in the ground, first week of June & the pumpkins are bright orange long before Halloween.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

We're going below freezing again as well. I'll plant later rather than sooner.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

CG in MN, I don't know for sure when the pumpkins will be read for harvesting. My good neighbors just offered me a 4' x 8' lot in our community garden. I think I'll transfer these Pumpkin vines to the lot, rather than growing them in container as planned. I may have better result. As of this morning, the seedlings look to be very healthy and growing at a very fast pace. CG in TN, please keep us posted.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Here's the seedlings.

I will be planting my squash and pumpkins indoors, this week probably. I will harden them off outside and hopefully they will be ready by planting time. I still have to get my garden tilled and ready to plant.

1) Tromboncino
2) Patty Pan
3) Luffa
4)Fairytale Pumpkin
5)Cinderella Pumpkin

Hope these aren't all taken up?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

First I like to welcome Brendak to our thread. Then I want to apologize for my sideway pictures. I'm loading my pics from my phone and I don't know how to fix the problem. Anyhow, today is my first day I transplanted my plants into their permanent places. One into a container in which I'll train the vine up to an arbor. The other 2 are planted on a raised bed. I will post my plants' progress as they grow. I will now add two more. 1 is Luffa. 2 will be Calabash hybrid 'India Long '. Thanks.

I can save your picture on my computer and rotate it so it is correctly oriented.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

CG, thank you for the tips. I'll try to load the pics. onto my PC then. Most often if I remember to take pics. via my Canon PS camera, the pics. are readily uploaded to the PC.

I checked on the transplanted Pumpskins. They look good, there is no signs of transplant shocks. :)

This pic. is an example that I took from my Canon camera.

My nice thick package of seeds arrived a few weeks ago, and now that we've passed our official "average last frost date" I'll be getting into the garden to start mine....well, just as soon as the deluge stops and the ground is workable :-)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Same here...soggy, squishy, sticky mud.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ditto to that soggy, squishy, sticky mud. LOL Yesterday, we had a little break from the cloud. Today, not so much. Some of our neighbors a county over from us are getting flash flood. Ugh!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Tadaaa, here is the upright picture. Thanks again CG for your help. I uploaded all the pictures from the phone to the PC, and cleaned out my SD card. Whew!!! Uncluttered my phone. So I can focus on other tasks in the garden. :)
