I am mostly a beginner when it comes to house plants. I have a few little trees and some ivy's and succulents and air plants, but beyond that, my knowledge is limited.
I was given this arrangement from Kroger as a gift for my birthday yesterday, and am concerned about the longevity of the plants. They are planted in a bowl that has no drainage at all and they look very cramped to me. Should I separate them and plant them in their own pots, or?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :)
Should I separate store bought ornamental plants?
Yes.
Most of those will grow to be large, handsome house plants if they are given room, good soil, proper drainage...
I would replant it ASAP, each species in a separate pot.
Thank you! I will go to the store tomorrow to get more pots and some soil. I appreciate it. :)
I was prepared to say they're probably great companions, but I don't think so. Looks like plants that have a wide range of light preferences, from full sun to full shade. When that attribute doesn't match, plants are poor companions. If you are able add another pic or 2 from other angles, somebody should recognize them.
Looks like to me from that 1 pic:
1 Dieffenbachia
2 rubber tree (Ficus elastica)
3 heart leaf vine (Philodendron)
4 Coffee or Ardisia, maybe Gardenia
5 palm, there are many wildly different ones
Thank you! I've only identified 3 plants so far. The dieffenbachia, palm (Parlor, I believe), and the heart leaf fine. The other two were still a mystery to me. I wasn't sure what the reddish leaves were, but rubber tree makes a lot of sense. Here is a picture of the one I still haven't identified though.
I repotted all of them and moved them around to accommodate light needs for those that I knew what they were, and so far they all seem to be doing fine, but we will see. My black thumb is legendary.
