Home from the Flower Show, and OH Boy what a show. The 20 minute drive from the train station took almost an hour and a half. The ice was fearsome, I'm so glad we took the train and had the 4WD truck. We'll probably get some pics up tomorrow, we're pretty much done in, that makes for a long day. A few of our favorites were no where to be seen, Ivy and boxwood society, and the clematis group that usually has quite a show of it's own. Some of the displays were just over the top, reminiscent of the NOLA, Mardi Gras theme.
Who's looking forward to spring?
It sounds fabulous. I hope it gave you enough mental boost to survive the next weather event. Another record cold night Thursday- what the heck?!?
This thread's supposed to be about looking forward to spring, but today we are "looking forward" to another 5-10 inches of snow tonight! :-(
Will it ever end?
Yeah it's a real bummer to miss out on all that while I'm on my cruise ;-P
We fly out of BWI tonight going down to Ft. Lauderdale. We'll be in Cozumel Saturday. Good stuff. Seriously though, enjoy that record cold night! :)
Thursday sounds like no fun at all, ( but I may get to stay home from work) but Friday we may get more gorgeous poems written by the sunshine on the snow
8^)
~~For everything...there is a season...~~~
Oh yay Jeff, you guys are sneaking out just in time!!
Jeff have a great time down there. Maybe I could pack my SCUBA gear and join you. LOL
Yeah I know! I'm so blessed we thought to go out the day before because we'd be screwed flying out tomorrow. Haha Holly
Sally, how many minutes are you from BWI? Maybe we could meet in the airport for a little 'send off'! Seriously if any problems just give a shout.
Well try to have a few more signs of Spring here for your return but if not, we'll just drool over tales of sunshine and warmth and green! Maybe you can tell from the plane just how many of those 5 miles a day Spring has progressed this year.
Have a good honeymoon with your honey.
YAY for you, getting away from this mess. Enjoy!!!MM
I'm wondering if my son and DDIL will get back from NH. They are due to land about 11 am tomorrow.
If one does not look outside--one would think that spring is already here
at the HD.
Starting to get in some of the hardiest of hardy plants--geared to Easter--I am sure.
Some in bloom(not naturally, I bet)--like pretty pink creeping phlox, Heather,
Rieger Begonias, and some blooming Hyacinths. No Pansies yet--
maybe in a few days??? I think it may be a bit too cols for them yet.....
Today--all the fruit treas and some early, hardy shrubs (like Forsythia) came in too.
It was rough--all people wanted was salt and snow shovels--we no longer have any!
Everyone is buying the water softener salt to use on ice. NOT a good idea!
But--that is all we have.
We DID, finally, get in a shipment of pellets....YEAH!
G.
I was in the HD the other day and there were some tempting bare root and tuber sales for sure. They had a nice DL bag for 17 bucks.
Sequoia, I hope you got out okay and are having a great trip!
Groan...more snow : - ( I was hoping to be able to rip Japanese Pachysandra out of a soggy bed and sow water-loving native perennial seeds in it. Guess that will have to wait!
On the bright side, I have put up 3 Plant Swap threads so we can spring ahead to our happy places. Yes, I know that's corny. Check out the threads, though!
From The Capital Weather Gang forecast this am
" Snow lovers are delirious, this event is serious! Inches pile up through the day, as kids head out to play, spring is officially on delay"
Oh my another poem.
Well we made it to FL okay but the hotel we stayed in was terrible. People were up all hours of the night and I'm pretty sure there was a hooker in the lobby when we checked in.
Jeff---
You MUST write a limerick on your first impressions of this Hotel!
It should be a hoot.....
G.
LOL Jeff, Friends of ours had a similar experience when their flight to the Bahamas was delayed and they stayed over in Miami just picked a hotel from the airport. They said the food was good but the hotel wasn't, and it was pretty interesting watching the hookers come and go while they ate their meal, even an encounter in the hallway guess the guy couldn't wait till they got to the room. They said that once inside their room they weren't coming out till morning short of a fire. Their experience not so much fun at the time, has become a great story to tell at parties and looked back on as interesting. LOL

Library posted closing last night, they must think it'll be serious.
Ug Jeff, you can never tell about that beforehand. Our hotel near Meadowlands stadium, before Steelers-Jets game, was like that. Parr TAY
Darcy and Jeff were flying,
For blue skies they were trying
First stop was a bust
Thank heavens that's just
A stop on the way to beach lying!
(Not my best ever, but hey it's early)
Love it--Sally! You are good!!!
Wish more people would chime in. It is NOT hard!!!
G.
Jeff and Darcy did not delay
In their haste of getting away
But the very first night
The hotel was a fright
And they saw more than they could say
Alright I guess I'll bite
Our very first night
Was an interesting sight
It was like we were at a college dorm
But at least we were missing the storm
From the dog barking
To the people parking
The kids running in the hall
And the wheelchair guy who was loud
The guy at the airport with the dainty sandals who was tall
So far in the trip we weren't wowed
Looking forward to getting on the ship
It will be interesting to hear you all quip
On this limerick that was fun to write
Hopefully our next night will be just right
CLAP...CLAP..CLAP.......That was GOOD!!!!
Welcome to the MAF Limerick Society.
Jeff thought he couldn't do it
Then found out--there's nothing to it!
Once the first line was written
He became smitten
And came up with a really good hit.
Hehehe. YAY everyone.!!
what a hoot!!!!! all of them!!!!!!!!!
I apologize in advance, as I don't have much to do except pass time at my desk.
The Washington, D. C. area is legendary in its inability to cope with winter weather, so
Said the horrified weather forecaster
The snow is coming down faster
Than it can possibly melt
So in DC its felt
Like a major natural disaster.
We have the lower end of the predicted snowfall already, with hours to go. I'm really getting tired of this, so
There is absolutely no way
Of a snowball in Hell they say.
That's sounding so good
I'm thinking I should
Start being evil today!
VV--love the last picture!!!
X-Mas card material for surel!!!
Seriously--start saving all these super snow scenes in a separate Folder.
Later in the year--you will forget where they are.
You can make $$$ selling cards.--At least $3-$4 each.
haha David!!
Nice pics VV. I heard there was a traffic jam in KY where people were stranded all night.
Reading all these rhymes is much more fun than shoveling!
The sight I really want to see
is green leaves growing on a tree.
I'm not sure I have a yard;
clearing paths is just too hard.
Ditto for the grass-free ground;
there's too much snow to work around.
I can sow some seeds inside the house,
but can't resist the urge to grouse!
I'm glad you're stuck at home with your White-throated Sparrows (?) rather than on the road, VV!
HEY! A thought!!! Look out....:-o
Would someone like to take it upon themselves to start saving all these limericks
somewhere for posterity? If you do--please include the writer.
Maybe--just start a separate Thread for them? C/p the ones already written.
I am not that computer savvy--I think it would be fun to look back on these
once we are all sweating in 99* heat with NO rain insight.
I am sure--they will continue coming.....this site is on FIRE!
Save the verses!!!
Stuff them in your purses!
put them in your pocket
and then--lock it.
Save them in a folder
What could be bolder?
Make it secure with lock and key
So years from now we all can see
How silly we all can be.
G.
I think I will flee
all this jolly tee, hee, hee
so it's back to the chores
and the out of doors
to bring in the coal fuel
and with my shovel duel
with the snow on the path
then a nice salts bath
I'm green with jealousy at all the daffodil and cherry blossom pics that Pacific North West folks are posting everywhere.
I just know the early daffs in my backyard are just beneath the surface, waiting to burst through the snow.
At least the drive this morning was gorgeous, with all of the trees by the highway covered in snow and ice.
If anyone is planning to go to the Timonium show, you may want to reconsider. It was a lot less impressive than last year, and if you were there 2 years ago, it was not the same place. The orchid show was crammed into the food court and the display gardens were greatly diminished. A few of them were decent and well done, but over all "fagetaboutit".
We are leaving soon for the York show, so we will see.
thanks for the reviews!
I got the whole house open to air it out. It's only 50*F in the shade but feel like 75*F. There is hope spring is on it's way.
I'll do a bit more on the shows we attended later, right now I'm reveling in the excellent weather. I may not be SAD again this year. I'm even thinkingof a to-do list for spring. LOL
I bought this 5ft Camellia at the show yesterday, it was a display plant. I need another non-hardy plant like I need a hole in my head (maybe I do have a hole in my head) but how could you walk away from a plant like this for $10. It sure adds a breath of Spring to the house even if it does block that back sliding door.
Yes, it does look like yours Gita. I am so glad you posted that I was going to ask you about it. The landscapers only knew that it came from Fl. they had no ID for it. I have never had one before so I will have to read up on them. Come next Fall I may have to let it go, maybe find someone in a warmer clime and try to take cuttings. Will deal with that when I get there, for now I can enjoy it.
